Rowe was presented to the media earlier and announced we would be making a signing today. The rumour is, it's Asante. You must have some cash lying about as Asante won't be cheap and Rowe must have cost a pretty penny We must have found a money tree somewhere. 'Eight-goal striker Akwasi Asante has left National League North leaders Gloucester City' @jonpalmersport

Yes, served us well - played more games than people actually realise with all their “injured” jibes. Made our Team of the Decade despite only being with us for 18 months. Class.

Now confirmed, from Gloucester website "Asante had 18 months of his contract remaining with the Tigers however Chesterfield met a release clause enabling him to leave for a club in a higher division".

Confirmed that he’s joined Chesterfield, Gloucester fans moaning about him going for the money. Oh the irony. I don't think I've seen one comment from us moaning about him going for the money. It was always going to be a case of him going onwards and upwards, it's just disappointing that it's happened now whilst we're on a crest of a wave. The effect of which was shown by losing to a Gateshead team that we'd have beaten had none of this happened. Asante has gone too now. Big loss. He was superb. We'll struggle to find someone to fill his boots. The press release says that Chesterfield won't be coming back for any more of our contracted players. I just hope they're all under contract!

Be interesting to see if Akwasi continues his good scoring record in NL. Very good player at our level. Wish he was still at Chester. Good luck to him.

Asante must be made up. Higher division, presumably good money, and a manager he knows who understands how to play him. Plus lets be honest, the setup at Gloucester looked totally soul destroying, the ground looked worse than some grounds in the Welsh leagues despite being new - he's now playing at a proper stadium again at a club that really should be football league.

He will score goals at National league and possibly above he just has that gift of losing his marker and finding space in the penalty area he also doesn’t give the ball away very often something he didn’t get enough credit for.

Was any effort made to set up some contractual protection to get some cash for Asante whilst we had him? I understand the managers wanted him to stay, and he himself wanted to stay.

Just the usual social media idiots, mostly. If Gloucester to continue to impress they'll have a job keeping the other striker from other Clubs, although just like Asante they'll require a decent transfer fee for this level.

Think we just missed him so much when he didn’t play that it seemed worse than it was.

It's rather amazing how much of a goal machine he is.

I see Jason Ainsley has left his managerial post at Spennymoor. Looks like owner Mr. Moneybags was wanting much more progress for his financial input.

Someone mentioned on the match thread we could have put in 7 days notice for Boston left back Josh Askew, it seems a good shout as some Boston fans on social media thinks it’s Chester who have put in the notice although one fan said the manner in which its been done hasn’t been ideal. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out next week.

Matty Hughes Joins Lancaster City on a dual registration

Matty Hughes Joins Lancaster City on a dual registration He needs games and it’s closer to home for him too. I do feel we were too loyal with some players from last season, I know they played for free and Hughes in particular was ruled out for a lot of the season with a horrific injury, but the likes of him and Gary Roberts never looked like being involved this season. Once Goodwin came through Hughes was essentially sixth choice forward.

Have to agree with this it doesnt look like Hughes and Roberts are going to be getting much game time, remembering we have a few lads on dual registration we could call up on them too. im interested to see who we bring in on the youth loan and the player weve put 7 days notice on

This is a strange one because I personally wasn’t his biggest fan towards the end of last season and would’ve parted ways under normal circumstances. However, I’ve felt very sorry for Matty this season though because given most of our other attackers have been disappointing, I don’t understand why he’s rarely been given chances to impress. As shown in the run-up towards his very unfortunate injury two years ago and even against Curzon Ashton this season, he can be a brilliant player on his day so I’m gutted he’s been left out a lot. Lancaster City play just one league below us in what is a very competitive division, so I’m rooting for him to prove himself in order for him to hopefully come back here banging that first team door down. Good luck Matty!

Should be a good chance for Matty to get some much needed game time. Anyone know if Marsh-Hughes is out on loan again?
