Conversations about the pros and cons of fan ownership aren't just limited to what you read on DevaChat - they happen in the stands, in the Blues Bar, on the Hipkiss Express, among people who don't go anymore etc. The idea that people only criticise the ownership model after a loss or two is hilariously narrow minded. That may be true, but what he said was these threads only appear on this forum during bad form, which is correct. This one was started after the Kidderminster defeat and revived after the Chorley defeat. The Alfreton win in between saw the thread fall down the forum. No doubt people do have discussions about ownership with their mates and games and in the pub, but they can't be responded to on here. Forums like this are for people who want to broadcast their views and persuade others, and they do only seem to appear when they lose. For that reason, they often appear like reactionary dummy-spitting. Fair enough, although it's pretty obvious I and others weren't just talking about a few threads on Devachat. Or maybe it wasn't.

.fan ownership is a club owned by the fans where most of the investment is generated …but the fans (owners) are attending less and less games, and we can’t recruit (potential owners) fans to come and watch the team play as the overall package isn’t marketable enough , therefore income streams are reduced as the owners/fans slowly withdraw their investment by not attending games…even if it was and by some miracle we were steaming away and hadn’t lost a game 18pts in the league thus far…we would still have less than 1900 watching us…and all our better players would be gone in the January transfer window…because we haven’t got the resources or financial clout to keep them here….that to me is fan ownership… Very strange analysis. Out of interest could you say who out of our previous owners has put in money to subsidise the club running at a loss ?

They havent showed up her in the last 40 odd years. If Barnes, Gutterman, Smith and Vaughan doesnt convince you its a bad idea, then nothing will. We can all start whinging about a big money backer or we can try to makd fans ownership work, cause there aint much else out there. The board played a blinder during the Covid crisis. Short memories

Short memories This point can't be emphasised enough and is why I think people really need to be careful and responsible about what they post online. We're reliant on a small number of people giving up their time to be part of the board. I'm not saying the model can't be debated sensibly but every time they see one of these lazy, curt complaints about "investment needed", "going nowhere" etc, it must wear them down. The option right now is a fan-owned club or no club, so at least until there's another option, let's show a bit more patience and respect.

Yes…absolutely privatised clubs can go bust, any business can…but fan owned clubs can also go bust too…we are not immune to that either, Curzon Ashton…1746 att…Gateshead..1401 att and Alfreton 1368 att..that’s nearly 400 fans(owners) lost in…just 11 days…and also in just 3 games..wonder how much revenue is lost there has our fans(owners)…withdrew their support and investment through poor results…so what’s that…about 22% ish ?..just in 3 games!!..that’s lost revenue not investment…you can’t get better players in the club with “lost revenue”…

Play-offs followed by title challenge before season cut short. I’d say that was “running close to the top”. You want to argue the case against, but the fact of the matter is this thread, and other similar threads, has only appeared during a bad run of form by the football first team. Wondering what ‘people who don’t go anymore’ are doing in the stands, the Blues Bar and Hipkiss Express.

Bad results and the holiday period both have an effect on attendances. Scunthorpe lost a third of their crowds between their opening game and and their last game.

Clean sheet and away draw = no moaning about the ownership model. As expected. Still stand by my views So do i. Reason why i made no comment is because i'm sick of debating the fan owned model with people wearing rose tinted glasses. We are going nowhere under this model. And a 0-0 draw against a very poor Darlo side won't convince me that we are going places in the long term. It was great to start up again but only as a short term fix to a long term problem. Low crowds (as always) and lack of revenue are killing us the only thing that might help is some investment or maybe a cup run (unlikely)

This is the point i'm making, the longer we are at this level the bigger the impact on attendances as we are not setup to be a regional non-league side. I appreciate people are saying they are more patient than others but theres a large chunk who won't stomach it. It's not about form, its seeing how our money plus the big incentives are not running us close to the top. Agree with this. Totally understand those who see things a different way but anyone thinking concerns such as these are just down to a few bad results are missing the point. Continually.

That is by no means a given.

Constantly wishing that a magic money man comes in for whatever reason and altruistically solves all our problems is great.I f that happens brilliant. Everyone will be happy. Constantly restating that we're going nowhere and its the fault of the very people that help to ensure we still have a club to support and donate time to ensure it exists is not winning you or your cause any friends. Moaning about the situation we are in without offering solutions is exhausting and really ruining debate on this site. If the only answer to our problems is "someone turns up and solves all our problems" then spend your time trying to find that person not bemoaning the people trying to help keep the club going.

It's not my job to go looking for backers that is the job of the board. Has anyone bothered conducting a feasibility study regarding finding a backer? has anyone asked around to see if anyone would consider backing the club? (without chasing them off by telling them that they won't have control). I very much doubt it. No problem then, let us just drift down the leagues with falling crowds, falling revenue and falling interest in the club. No problem though as long as some can go around saying ''I own part of my own football club'' or 15 quids worth anyway

Everyone wants whats best for the club. You've decided they are the problem because it gives you a scapegoat, someone to rail against and to make yourself feel like you know better. The board have been busy steering the club through a pandemic, we don't currently have enough volunteers to fill every aspect of the day to day running. Whose Job should it to seek out this investor? As long as it's not you right?

This is the problem with their argument - they come unstuck when asked to provide anything more than the “we need change” sound bite. Sadly it’s typical of all social media discourse these days, people shouting generic sentences at each other and being unable to debate seriously.

Murphy: “Can I take over the club?” Board: “How nice of you to show your interest in taking us forward to the next level, just pay us what you owe us and show us how you propose to support the clubs existence over the next few years and we’ll gladly put it to a vote to our members!” Murphy: “😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃” An effing indoor beach and surf centre, lol. It is not the job of the board to actively go looking for a backer unless so mandated by the membership. If you are a member and want change, canvas support from your fellow members and if found in sufficient numbers call an egm. If the board themselves collectively feel that the fan ownership is not sustainable they would be obliged to advise the membership.

The club is currently looking for new board members. Why not stand for election and state in your manifesto that you believe the club needs to attract private investment and you will make this your priority? If enough fans agree with you, you'll be elected. www.chesterfc.com/2021/09/06/news-election-to-the-board-of-city-fans-united-and-chester-fc/You have until tomorrow to apply. Good luck!
