It’s not the best of games this if we are being honest. Seems like something is lacking between the players. Hope all is well behind the scenes. LOL timing

Get in, just what we needed! Hopefully a gritty win like this will provide us with a tad more confidence now. Marske is going to be tough given their relentless form, but a club like ours should be able to go there and get the job done if we get it right on the day.

I mean that standard of football was truly awful but I’ll take the next round and the much needed funds.
Strongest side out v Marske, the bigger prize money really kicks on 1st round proper.
I know that was a gritty win but I nearly went at half time - the Deva was busier when Liverpool reserves played there !

But we only had a crowd of 1,400-odd for a replay at the same stage against Gainsborough (a club at the same level at the time) back in 2012/13 when we were flying on the pitch and we hadn’t been in the FA Cup since reforming. The simple fact is that people are used to both Chester and Darlo entering the competition three rounds later and early qualifying round games are low down their list of priorities. I doubt first round games for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland hold much appeal for their fans either. I’ll be there tomorrow night anyway. Sounds daft but I think the whole cashless turnstiles thing has put a few off Don’t think the club made it clear when it first all came out What a mess this was tonight even stewards saying it’s a joke Best performance of season however big big win roll on Saturday

Biggest thing tonight was the result - Cup competitions are massive for a club like us. Two clean sheets in a row too - was important to start from scratch and make ourselves difficult to beat after a terrible first month or so in the league. It isn’t pretty to watch but we need to be keeping it tight and grinding out narrow wins to build the players’ confidence back, their confidence has looked shot so far this season.
Not sure we are good enough to go away to a side in such a great run of form and beat them, but keeping it tight and grinding out a win will do. Will settle for a repeat of this round to be honest - baby steps to restart our season.

There was plenty wrong with that tonight and loads to improve on, but in our position you have to keep it tight and grind out results. The result was all that matterd. I would take another scrappy 1-0 win on Saturday.

Decent enough performance and Hardy was the pick of the outfield players. Needs to play behind the striker in the number 10 role.
Worrying sign was how unfit Dudley looked. Clear on goal and outpaced by the centre back and looked done in after an hour.

All about the result tonight, yes the first half was abysmal and we probably didn't deserve to win it in the 90 minutes. Darlington weren't particularly any better though, two teams lacking confidence. Game opened up for the last 30 minutes and it could have gone either way. Dudley and Waring both worked hard but no pace and little support runner wise from midfield. Johnston and Hardy both made a difference out wide when the game became stretched. Positives tonight were the two fullbacks, both excellent and the goalkeeper had a decent game and Williams looked composed on the ball in tight situations. Nobody had a shocker and everyone was committed to the cause. Hopefully the fitness levels and confidence will improve and we go again Saturday ⚽️👍

Turgid first half but got better as the game went on and we finished strong. Pretty entertaining second half to be fair, got ourselves through and kept another clean sheet. Just need to keep on the right track and get the confidence up.
Off the pitch there should not be queues of that size to get that few fans in the ground. At least the car park looks like it will back up to full capacity soon though.

Just to elaborate on the queues particularly at the East Stand turnstile towards the Harry Mac, we were a couple of turnstile operators down tonight so we were only able to open the one out of the two to start off with. Once the queue started To gather, we managed to get the other one opened up with some novice turnstile operator and the queue reduced. It just reiterates the fact that we need more turnstile operators as we've lost a few over the last few games, which has the obvious impact around the ground. Jeff

I'm in the West Stand so didn't miss kick-off like a lot of others did although one bloke tried his best to make me whilst taking absolutely forever to pay on his phone.

Every person has a bank card with contactless - they come to the turnstile and tap it. Or if you don’t want to, put your 4 digit pin in. How is this putting fans off? Please explain? Still think the same tonight? Was very piss poor set up Even stewards weren't happy about it all

Jeff Could we not just do what some clubs do Card and season ticket one turnstile Cash other? Only a piss poor 1064 there tonight imagine that during a league game? This will be putting people off no doubt about it

Gray Morgan Askew Grand Williams Clark Weeks Glendon Dudley Hardy Waring Livesey, Johnston, LmH, Hughes, Smith, Lowe, Heywood Where the bloody hell are the rest of them. Why don’t we get updates on unavailable players? Cowan, Stephenson, Lacey, Roberts, Jude, Horsfield!1) unwell, not Covid, 2) hamstring, 3) reaction to last match 4) medial ligament damage, 5) ankle tear, 6) not selected (best man at wedding) 7) Morgan, swollen ankle.

Looking better. Players looked sharper tonight definitely improving. Thought simon grand was excellent tonight, good distribution. We Desperately need some pace up top dudley looks unfit , waring holds it up well but needs a runner. (Must be a pacey evostick striker worth a punt on!)Morgan played well until his injury nice to see him getting stuck in. In to the next round thats all that we need thank you for coming darlo.

Thought that final half hour was much closer to the vintage Bern and Jonno performances we’ve seen pre-covid. We needed two wingers to hit some form if we wanted to get the goals flowing and hopefully this is the start of it. Hardy MOTM for me. You can see Johnston is trying to change his game - very direct with it and trying to cut inside rather than get lost towards the corner flag.
Williams deserves a shout too, Morgan provided that attacking threat to balance with Askew on the other side and even Clark was much tidier on the ball. Just got to try and get bodies back now, seems to have got to an injury list of six out of nowhere.

There would have been the same queues for cash only it was clearly a numbers issue of staff on the turnstile. I wouldn’t know anyone, including my parents, who even physically draw out cash to spend anymore. Even my Nan at 82 just used contactless. Either way, let’s hope we get some numbers in for Saturday.

Have we tried him as a defender. A striker on loan is needed. The rest of the lads tried hard and Williams, Hardy and Grey were standouts. 2 poor teams with little up front but our midfield showed glimpses of class.

When I do this I'll be absolutely delighted to come on here and read about what a joke it is that you've been inconvenienced whilst you do almost nothing but relentlessly moan about how poorly the club is run. Wonder why the club is short on volunteers? Will you ever offer assistance to the club or do you just like to complain.

Need players around Waring, runners who can break the lines. Him and Dudley don't have the pace to do that.

It was a poor fair for 60+ minutes. Several of our players are struggling for fitness, form or confidence. The keeper kept us in it really with several decent saves but, we kept at it and I think credit has to go to the players for digging in and getting the result We badly need this cup run and a result can change everything in football. Saturday is another winnable game and hopefully we can get a couple of the injured players back.
