To me the squad is the responsibility on the manager, yes we can all have opinions but that’s all they are. Callum has been impressive with what he has done with the Youth set up and at Runcorn. This season is new to him and we all need to stick with him, hopefully he will build a successful unit that improves us and his profile. After all Chester FC is a stepping stone club now for players and managers alike. We can’t afford National League football due to income stream as a side struggling in the league above does not keep fans coming to the Deva. We have to be realistic with our ambitions and just hope to get a good cup run.

Surely the aim must be to build income streams off the pitch and build a winning team on it. We can't just rely on selling players and a mythical cup run. Not saying it will be easy but no reason at all we can't be an established NL club. Don't forget we get extra income through Tv and away fans in the league above, as a given. Oh, and we enter those cups later

Brave call from Cal perhaps surrendering some early season form to aid the second half of the season? Might just be the solution to that age old problem of ours. Reassuring to know there’ll be some margin to work with if we don’t come flying out the blocks I guess. Always got the loan market too, we’ve had way more good than bad these past 12 years.

Yet we've just re-signed Morgan and we are expected to sign Murray. Are you going to tell me I'm wrong? No, you're not wrong, we signed Morgan, but he was here last season, is a decent player & isn't 43. So you don't think Kevin Ellison is a decent player then, still at 43 he would be the best player in our squad.

Don’t think it was ever officially announced that he’d left, but David Fitzpatrick now certainly won’t be rejoining us for next season as he’s just signed for Radcliffe. Seems like they’re building a pretty fearsome team there, having also recently unveiled the signings of EFL stalwarts Nicky Adams and Luke Joyce who’ll be lining up alongside player-manager Bobby Grant.

I was a bit unsure on the signing of Murray at first, but you really can't argue with his numbers at RL. Pretty much a goal a game in over 60 games, plenty of assists in there too. I think he'll probably be used mostly as rotation for Weeks, we're really stacked in creative areas but it sounds as though CM knows where we are still slightly lacking.
Really excited to see the new side in action, feel as though we've got loads of goals in the team again but for sure we still need to beef up in some of the defensive areas.

Stanway Roberts Burke Edwards Morgan (for now) Glendon Earl Weeks Thomas Hall Stephenson

Telling me that XI with a bench of Dudley, LMH, Lynch, Williams isn’t a strong side, with 2-3 additions to come. About time we thought a little more of ourselves. I am on countdown to the fixture announcements - flamingo land away PLEASE

I'm very optimistic for the new season, the squad being put together is being built in a different way than we have in the past. For me we have been asking for this so we should support it and not jump on any early season results as a disaster. Do i expect us to be challenging for the title this season? no, but sitting a place or two outside the play offs come January will be ok for me, as i believe the younger players if good enough will come on stronger as their experiences grow in the second half of the season.

Personally, I think this squad has been put together, with one eye, on going full time in the future. Also, the training model may preclude some of the more experienced part time players, who have jobs. It is why Altrincham released so many. For me it is a young, athletic squad that doesnt lack physicality and has the flexibility to play a number of different systems 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 4-3-2-1, 4-4-2. Unlike, last season when we set out to play a 4-5-1 and it took half a season to get a system that worked because we didnt have the personel to play anything different. The team that finished, last season would have made the play offs, So, if the likes of Hall, Earl, Thomas etc can fill the shoes of Dackers, Sargent and Apter then I would expect us to be challenging for the play off positions

'Goalkeeper Joe Smith and forward Sam Turner have signed new deals with Chester FC! The pair graduated from the Academy to the first-team squad last summer and have been rewarded for their progress with 12-month contracts.' CM - “Sam obviously impressed during two loan spells last season and we felt it important we retain him to continue his development in the new training model. However, it is vital that Sam continues to play senior games as that is a huge part of his development. “In Jiff, you have a local lad who is a genuine supporter of the football club. I feel it is important that we begin to adopt a model where we ensure we have a younger goalkeeper of our own within the first team set-up to compliment what I hope would be two other, more senior, goalkeepers.
As part of this approach, Jiff will train with the first team group and the other two goalkeepers during the week but we will be looking to facilitate a loan to ensure he is playing senior football of a Saturday.” www.chesterfc.com/2022/07/05/breaking-promising-youngsters-smith-and-turner-sign-new-deals/

Looking at that feel we need another striker, doesn’t have to be a world beater but a solid physical centre forward would be good. Also feel another left back would be good, it seems we’re going to sign Matty Waters when he’s back fit which is a positive as personally think he’s a very talented player. But until that happens perhaps a short term loan from an EFL club to boost our options. Other than that the squad is shaping up nicely, looking forward to seeing Alex Kenton judging by the response of Morecambe supporters.
