They were solid last night the young lads. Two nice finishes, the first one from one of the u17s. Especially impressed with Reece Daly, looked very good. Lovely venue Buckley, was told that over 500 there and raised over £4k for them. Shame the goats let them down for Saturday at short notice.

My god I can’t wait for that circus to come crashing down. Just announced we’re playing a Man United team on the 7th august. Exciting news

Home fixture against a Manchester United X1/youth on Monday 7th August, just after the start of our league campaign.
Their first team are playing Lens on the Saturday and Athletic Bilbao on the Sunday.

If Calum hadn't explained so eloquently why this game is happening I would have said it was purely for the money, given its timing and the name of the opponents.

Not sure it would’ve been for the money anyway - doubt we’ll have heard of any of the Man U players.

Remember last time we played them many years back Veron played (28.1 million) most expensive british player at the time.

I have personally seen Chester play Man United three times.
Years and years ago when a friendly was organised to celebrate the new floodlights at Sealand Road! Albert Quixall was the star of the game.
Then the wonderful FA Cup third round 2-1 loss against George Best and Co at Old Trafford.
Finally the friendly to mark the opening of the Deva. A young Paul Scholes was in their lineup I think.
Don't think we won any of the games - but I stand to be corrected.
Fourth time lucky?

We’ve also played them more recently than those three games - a friendly in 2002 when a more “prime” Paul Scholes featured amongst fringe players. We played Everton, Man City, Man United and Liverpool during that summer - famously beating Liverpool 1-0 through Chris Blackburn’s late goal.

They're just a strange Hollywood fetish.

We played a Man Utd X1 in 84-85 and drew 1-1 at Sealand Road on a Friday night in November. A young Mark Hughes scored for them but him and Andy Holden had a real ding dong.

Friendlies aren’t really my bag don’t really bother with them but if I decide to go I’ll just buy a ticket online. Not really that much of an inconvenience is it. The online ticketing systems are really very good these days. Once your details are in the system after the first time it's even easier. I think people need to get over it. Obviously need to have a robust system in place to make sure it works on match days but, in theory, it should reduce the queues associated with cash sales.

Haven't seen it advertised yet but FYI the deadline for a ticket to Tuesday's game against Stockport is Monday 10pm.

People making a fuss over very little, same with people bleating about contactless on the turnstiles. Makes going the game easier, don't have to waste time trying to find a cash point

Though there were occasions last season where people were let in for free due to delays at the turnstiles due to connection issues which cost the club money.

I am baffled by some of the comments about the 7pm deadline myself, It was the day before the match the club have kept people well informed as much as they can. WTF do some people want ? a fecking written invitation ? get a grip ppl you have been well informed and if you can't be assed checking you have no one else to blame but yourself.

1-1. We were pants to be honest and looked knackered after two tough games this past week. I’d be giving a few of them Tuesday night at Bala off. With the game last night it meant only 3 subs used, Williams for Edwards at half time, Earl for Malone (trialist) and Daly for Murray late on. Could be wrong but Earl looked like he picked up a knock at the end.
Caton scored, they made a mess of dealing with a long throw from Stanway to the halfway line, he won it and raced through to slot it in. Whitehouse lashed one wide and in the second half Goodson hit the post and Coates then had the rebound saved.
Wythenshawe looked decent to be fair, gave Alty a good game the other night apparently as well.

First time this pre-season that I’ve come out feeling a bit disappointed, which possibly isn’t great considering it’s the first time we’ve fielded a lineup fully resembling what we might see in competitive games. As Anders says, we looked a bit tired after being worked hard by two EFL sides in the last week.
I’m not unduly worried because there’s still a couple of weeks until the big kick-off, but I do think there’s a Willoughby-shaped hole in the team at the moment - we’re lacking a striker with a truly predatorial instinct in the box, who can act as a focal point for the attack. Caton has done well in these friendlies but he’s not used to leading the line, and I can’t help but wonder whether he’ll get the space in league games to consistently find the net with the sort of goals he likes to score. Goodson has played a variety of positions, from striker to winger to number 10 and even occasionally central midfield, which makes me think Cal’s still figuring out how best to use him. It’s also interesting that we’ve persisted with the diamond in most of our friendlies, even in games like today when you might’ve expected us to line up in a way which enabled us to get at our opponents a bit more. Considering one of our main issues last season was a lack of width against teams happy to defend against us, a lot of onus will be on Taylor and Coates as things stand.

If you haven't played for months and then twice in a week get pulled around the pitch by superior quality you'll probably feel the effects afterwards. Elementary stuff really.
