Please explain how you make the leap from raw to casual racism? Often used in football analysis and commentary alongside the likes of “NAIVE”, “LAZY” and referring to PACE and POWER regarding black players and/or African national teams. There was a study a few years ago about it. Not saying it’s deliberate but it’s there. I think raw is a bit of a stretch. To me it means inexperienced, undercooked, having potential. It's more of a general football cliché to describe any young player with potential, but not the finished article. One for the academics to argue over. Still at least by discussing it, we've helped get the match thread to five pages after a win and proved Moltisanti wrong. Although having said that, his usual rants about fellow supporters account for about a page 😂

Bishop's Stortford were really poor, lacked any quality until half way thought the second half when they introduced some subs at that stage we were saved by the post, we really need to clear the ball quicker we were lucky the 2-0 score line is flattering.
Jid Okeke is a very good signing, well done Cal he is just what is needed, skillful and fast, he probably hasn't played much competitive football so he's only going to get better, did he deserve MOTM, yes he put in a shift in his debut.
Christian Norton, he did try yesterday and I have to say his goal took a lot of courage to run the length of the pitch with the opposition on your tail just feet away, control the ball and hit the net with so much time to think is not easy, most goals are split second instinctive reactions, hopefully he can build on this and take advantage of our injury crisis and get more game time.

Had to sit in the main stand yesterday for the first time since I was a kid due to 6 days straight of scaffolding around the wind turbines in Liverpool Bay had completely ruined my knees 😂 Anyway, observation - definitely a way we could get a concourse and bar beneath there? Little rejig of the lay out, few beer and food stands and maybe a few TV’s with the half time scores on? Insulate it too? I know it’s not a priority, just like to dream. Either way, nice to watch the game from a different angle but fuck me some of the old timers in there cracked me up. When Norton was coming on I heard ‘may as well be Graham Norton’ which actually tickled me. And then another causal bit of racism about Okele being German - must be a‘funny part of Germany he comes from’ Honestly, no wonder Cal wants to fight them all. That Norton line is generally funny tbf. Ah well he’s off the mark now. Seen a lot of comments on this thread referring to Okeke as RAW which isn’t far off those connotations either. Unless the mods have had a Canadian Exile moment and deleted them, there only appears to be a couple of posts on this thread that includes the word raw re Okeke - one of which you 'liked'?

I feel that anything and everything a person says these days can be construed to be detrimental to one section of the population or other.
I recall listening to Dee Radio (was it called or perhaps Marcher sound) in the car on the way back from a game some years back.
The commentator was describing Milton Graham's contribution and he used a common or garden saying that a lot of people used for someone who did all the hard graft. I believe the commentator did it all innocence, but I would imagine would be taken to task nowadays.

Think a commentator got a ticking off for using that phrase about John Barnes in the 80s. Yes, it will have been said in innocence, but the point is it has negative associations, so it's best to try and think of these things before speaking. Not sure that applies to "raw" though.

Spot on Lobster. To be fair for those of us of a certain vintage it was an everyday saying. I agree with you on raw and I am struggling to see any offence in that, but I suppose the world has changed! As a throwback to the "good old days" I see Rosies are having an over 50's night this Thursday as a homage to the old Quaintways days.
