So I am pleasantly surprised the way this years squad is shaping up but what is the situation with James Alabi ? I know he said in the press he was keeping his options open ect but it all seems to have gone very quiet on that front. I may have missed something in the press but I would love to see him stay if he doesn't get fixed up

I don't want him to stay. We've got more than enough strikers as it is, and keeping him on would put us over budget, with a few signings still to be made.

Where have I got the impression he was off to Crewe from? Heard we were getting around 30k aswell, alot of rumours knocking about.

We've already replaced him, so he's definitely on his way. No news as to where.

No clubs have come in for him but he has options. Hopefully one of them options is not staying.

Alabi staying with Hannah would have been brilliant for us, two goalscorers with different strengths. I think now we all know he's moving on, but i wish him all the best, his improvement this year was one of few positives.

Firstly, those two never really clicked together last time around so what makes you think it'd be any different now? Secondly, we no longer require his services.

I wish him well also but why would you want a player to stay after him saying he wants to leave? I want players here who want to play for the club not someone who can't get a club because no one has come in for him. Anyway Akintunde will be a better player than Alabi if he stays fit and given his chance.

Anyway Akintunde will be a better player than Alabi if he stays fit and given his chance. Ross Hannah wanted to leave a year ago but we've been okay having him back. My point is footballers are always going to want to climb the pyramid if they get the opportunity, so you can't really blame a young lad for wanting that. I know now we've signed our strikers and he will not be staying, but he is a good player and will be a miss for us next season IMO. As for him and Hannah in the past Mancot, I know they didn't do too well, but at the same time Alabi was nowhere near as good in his first season. All this being said, we can't really fault our summer business and striking options on paper, it's all up to JM to bring it together now and find a formation that actually works for us, surely 4-4-2. The whole 3 at the back sensation works at a higher level, but didn't work for us, players looked lost and out of position wing backs.

From a footballing point of view then I'd like to see Alabi and Hannah up top but realistically he indicated he'd like to seek pastures new and thanked the club/fans for the last couple of years, I've no problem with that. Macca moved early in the transfer market to prepare for that, bringing in Hannah/White/Bell so I imagine if he was to make a u-turn and decide to stay then it would present a bit of a problem for Macca as there's no way we need (or could afford) 5 strikers on the books. Plus he's out of contract, so surely the power would be with us as we'd have to offer him a new deal? I wish him all the best, he's by no means the finished article and he's got a lot of aspects of his game to work on but he still managed 17 goals in a struggling team so the potential is there and I hope he gets himself fixed up with the right club where he's likely to get game time.

People's attitude towards Alabi absolutely baffles me.
The lad is 22 years old, we got him for nothing, and only seven players in the division scored more than him last season. I reckon at least half his goals came in the very poor second half of the season as well. He has nine years on Ross Hannah. I know he can be a bit frustrating and looks a little raw and times, but you have to be patient and work with the many positive qualities he has. Consistency will come with maturity and experience. We'll regret the way we've treated him as fans, I think.

Hannah left because we only offered him a 1 year contract. Alabi wants to leave because hes had one decent season with us and thinks he's better than what he actually is, and that's conference standard.

Hannah left because he could get more money elsewhere, nothing to do with any contract. That's exactly what Alabi is thinking, and good on him. At 22, with the short career footballers have, he should go after as much as he can get. I think he'll be in league two or top half of our table next year.

The signing of Kingsley James was the last signing. Any further signings will be loans (From a very reliable source). Not sure whether Ryan Lloyd is signing, but I suspect not (and if he signs it will only be a short-term contract).

It's OK, Alabi will be welcomed back in a few seasons. I like the idea of players wanting to come back and play for us. Particularly the better ones. He would fit that bill.

I will also add that I think Alabi did well in a struggling team, but he never won a header in about 60 games. Not what you'd want in a centre forward and possibly the reason that no-one has come in for him.

He was one of our best players last season an never lacked effort, but more than that for such a young lad he always seemed to have a very mature emotional head on his shoulders and was always it seemed to me first in line for players attending community an JB's events on behalf of the club. I would love him to stay after all, but have no hard feelings if he can get a bigger league club interested (although I think he also has a wish to move somewhere closer to his family in London which is understandable too).

Ok thanks. It's a good back-up signing I think. His height and pace could be key for when he comes off the bench.

To score 17 goals as an isolated forward took some doing last season. He was one of the few reasons why I persisted watching that awful side last season because with him in the side there was always a chance of scoring and he gave us a ray of hope. For those "experts" who say Hannah and Alabi won't work look at the Aldershot games and latterly the Welling and Gateshead games in which they did alright scoring goals and causing chaos. If Alabi stayed then I think we'd take some stopping next season. If he does go then I wish him the very best because he was a role model on and off the field.

We'll regret the way we've treated him as fans, I think. Don't think he was badly treated but definitely doesn't get the credit he deserves. For a start where would we be without his 17 goals - National League North. That's a great return for a young forward - he's only 22, which some on here overlook. If anyone saw the game at Braintree he was unplayable that day - one of the best performances I've seen by a Chester centre forward - including a HEADED goal. When ever I had a look at other clubs' forums after games it was generally very complimentary about Alabi. The criticism he got for his so called inability to jump was frankly embarrassing - our own fans shouting 'jump' at a young lad made me squirm. Winning high balls and punts on the half way line isn't his game - play in the channels to him, get the ball into his feet, get quick crosses into the box to him (not just lumps forward). He's got a good shot on him, a tidy finisher and scored a few crackers - remember Kidderminster away anyone? He does need to add some aggression to his game - he tended to drift out of games and get bullied sometimes and no doubt he tailed off towards the end of the season - fatigue/ simple loss of form, I don't know. Maybe he's a bit too nice. He does need to develop his all round game but if he gets decent coaching and adds some consistency I can easily see him doing OK in League 2, or even League 1. Still think he will end up at Barnet. Would love him to stay at Chester but he's off I'm afraid. Absolutely don't blame him for trying to better himself and if we get some cash that's a bonus. Good luck to the lad where ever he goes and thanks for last season James.
