It's a very odd situation that has happened, he was once flooded with offers from the Football league and now that interest has faded rapidly. it seems his only choice now it to join a team in non league which is a real shame as I thought with the right Club he could have real potential. With us strengthening he'll be out the door either way. This needs resolving ASAP. we want the bit of cash so we can move on.

There aren't that many clubs in the lower leagues that want to spend money on transfer fees at all.

He'll end up leaving and we'll not receive a penny for a year. I'm sure the Club will push this though to get the right deal for both parties. I just hope we manage to get a sell on clause.

I heard earlier in the week £17.5 k + 10% sell-on; if true then a reasonable deal.

Can't see him getting much game time ahead of Cook and Norwood tbh. On his day he's a good player, but those days weren't very often for my liking. Don't forget he was getting slated for being lazy in the first half of the season for some too.

People slated him for being lazy, but he wasn't, he just isn't a player that's going to chase you down lost causes like Hannah does. You have to play to his Chest/feet rather than his head, which is unusual for a big man. Don't blame him for trying to find a FL club to further his career, shame if it ends up with him at Tranmere but financially could make sense for him, especially if he can share an apartment with Akintunde somewhere.

Good move for him if it comes off. He'll get my applause on his return to the Deva.

Good move for him if it comes off. He'll get my applause on his return to the Deva. Me too. Tranmere might be the best option for him and if he does well there could move to somewhere like Luton for a fee and that would benefit us if indeed we do have a sell-on. I've never had a problem with Tranmere and until the last couple of seasons we've hardly played them in the last 25 years.

Sounds like he was holding out for a move to a Souther club that never came off (no doubt due to having to pay a fee). Probably been badly advised as others have said, can't imagine he'll be on much more at Tranmere, as they're having to pay a fee and doubt he'll be a starter there, shame he didn't stay but more than happy with our attacking options

I've heard exactly the same as one of the posters above. 17.5k fee plus 10% sell on clause offered for Alabi.
Whether that's deemed acceptable to the club or not, we'll see.
Either way looks like Andy Cooks days with Tranmere are numbered. George Waring signing last week plus Alabi today/next week signing for them. I've heard Mellon isn't happy with the amount of ground he covers off the ball, wants more a more mobile frontman. Seems daft to me, replacing a proven 25 goal a season front man with a lad with one full season of football under his belt - scoring less than 20 goals - and a beanpole of a kid from Stoke City.

Tranmere fan in peace... It's all bit weird this one. Alabi caused us loads of problems at Prenton Park, however, I dont see why we want him unless Cook is leaving . Cook is a better all round player and Alabi or new signing Waring would be on the bench I can only assume we have had an offer for Cook Rumours are that Mellon had fallen out with Cook but if he lets him go it would be a huge mistake Will all become clear soon ! Anyway, apart from when you play us, good luck for the season . You have signed some good players and will finish much higher than last year

You have signed some good players and will finish much higher than last year Goes along with what I've been told by one or two Tranmere supporting work colleagues. Mellon not impressed with his work rate off the ball for one. Seems the two not really seeing eye to eye, plus a rumour doing the rounds that Cook isn't happy at the signing of Waring and now - it seems - Alabi as he see's it as a threat to his position at the club.
I don't understand it myself. Cook is a guaranteed 20+ goal a season forward. He's big, great in the air, got very good feet and is a handful for defenders. Aside from Matt Rhead and Ricky Miller last season he was probably the best pound for pound striker in the division.
Alabi has the potential to be a very good 20 goal a season striker, but he's not at the level that Cook is at currently, he might not even get to that level in terms of performance and/or goalscoring figures. Waring is raw, and lacks games. I can't see that changing much over the course of the season either with the forwards you have at your disposal.
I think Cook also fits the system Mellon seems to prefer (3-4-3), you need a big man up there with pace running in support. Alabi isn't very good when the ball is given to him at his head. He's much better with the ball to feet or to his chest. I think Mellon is about to make a massive mistake really if he does get shot of Cook. Be interesting to see if he does indeed leave and if he heads back to Barrow again.

Frankly, it's not that hard to work out that Cook is a bit of a confrontational tosser. Maybe Mellon just can't be doing with him, 20 goals a season or not.

Yes all very strange . especially now Ihiekwe has left us - our main problem is in defence . dont suppose you have any good centre halfs available 😊

Kane Richards has said on social media to Alabi "congrats on the move" so it's pretty much imminent.

I remember Mcconvile winding the Stockport fans up when he scored for us, and rightly got booked for it. Cook does it every time he scores. Behaviour like that can cause crowd trouble, so how come he gets away with it time after time?

Beats me, at least you could understand McConville’s one off baiting of the Stockport fans, Cook seemingly baits opposition fans because he’s just naturally a massive wanker. What he did in front of us at Prenton Park last season, for like a whole minute, with the ref pretty much cheering him on was one of the biggest piss takes I’ve ever seen in football.

I'm not sure whether Alabi will fit in at Prenton Park! He comes across as a decent and humble lad but the likes of Norwood, Cook, Davies, Ridelhagh and co. come across as complete cretins.
Good luck James you are going to need it.
I see Tranmere's training ground was up for auction this week. I hope Maguire used Wirral's very own Sam Hughes' transfer fee to bid for it?

Alabi is on Tranmere's sponsorship page for shirt, laces etc. Shame they couldn't spell his name though! 😂 all but confirmed now...

I suspect that James may well regret going there. Except for the increased wages. He comes across as a decent, but maybe fragile character. Any criticism, or abuse, from the terrace and his shoulders drooped. When he was praised he was a different player. I hope he does ok and soon gets a move to a decent club down south. They do appear to be mainly a team of arseholes. Maybe that's what you get from having Brabin as a manager. Mellon may well be trying to clear out a few. There was talk of Wrexham wanting to sign Cook a week or two ago.

Certainly doesn’t look a good fit to me either, his head drop can drop quite easily if it’s not going well and Tranmere’s fans will be less tolerable than we’d be.
You never know, he might make it work as he has the ability but that’s not the reason behind the doubts. Fitting in with the fairly large number of undesirable characters in that Tranmere squad looks a task for him as well.

Personally wish the lad well. He had it tough at Chester, playing with a waste of space strike partner in Kane Richards. We never played to his strengths and he still managed to score a decent amount of goals.
