I did my usual 130 mile round trip in attending today's game. Usual dross in the first half interspersed with a belligerent little shit having the ordasity to remonstrate with the home fans. Great to see what seemed to be a refusal by the team to follow McCarthy's tactics to lay down and die. Sad to see he got his own way(tactically) in the end though. As regards attendance, in my case money is not an issue. Value for money and entertainment are the key. With no other means of demonstrating one's objection to the seriousness of the current situation the only option at this point in time is to stop attending. It seems 700 people beat me to it. Where I sit I noted five nearby empty seats that were filled last year. Walk the streets with a placard if you want sqzl, but challenging the right of fans to cease attending is pathetic. Smacks of arrogance in fact. 700 paying clients at say £15 a time rounded down to £10,000 per match. Couple that with the ruinous outcome which relegation would bring and then, perhaps, meekly continuing to attend, kissing McCarthy's arse in some instances, will be to the long term detriment. Perhaps short term action now will bring the fiasco to an end and create a future for an otherwise doomed club. That's how serious I see the situation. Subject to the board growing a pair, I hope to be at the next home game. Not sure what you're on about mate but if you see my other thread, I'm not a JM fan? I also share you're frustration given I live 109 miles from Chester, it's a 4-5hour drive in total. I was criticising people not attending because of the manager because it's Chester FC we all support, not JMFC. Would you go back to eat in a restaurant where you were met with a manager kicking off on you for complaining about a shit meal?

It was 8 months ago today that we last won a home game and we won't win another one til we change the manager unfortunately.

He is killing the enthusiasm for attending home games and killing any hope of an atmosphere. I used to enjoy when we would have a bit of a go and the crowd would get going but everyone these days has just had the fun sucked out of them. The likes of me and a lot of others have seen shit before and no doubt will again and we will always be back, but I fear that a continuation of this will ruin the younger crowd or at least kill their enthusiasm. A club like us cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the alarming decline in crowds. Annoying for myself as I've spent so much time trying to get more people into the Harry Mac to improve the atmosphere, but when the performances and results are like they are, what can I do aye....

That post aside, JMc has to go, pay him off, set him free. He's the Ian Holloway of the lower league, talks his way through interviews but at the end of the day those players today didn't know the tactics themselves. And as for throw in's why is no one interested, had easily ten today which took 15-20 seconds for a player to even acknowledge the ball was there to be won.

You've done a good job, pal. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly and a new manager can install some genuine optimism and positivity that will bring a few back. It's Maguire's time to get the board together, admit the error of their ways, and make the necessary call.

To add to the above, Craig Mahon 10/10. He was having an awful game until the goal. Everyone was but he stepped up and dragged us back to level terms. The only thing Macca got right in his press conference was the effect Mahon has on the crowd, he lifts the place. Shame no one else stepped up (Akintunde had a good game too) as he's clearly the one player teams double up on so we can't rely on him all the time.

Can someone expand on this altercation between McCarthy and the fans. What was said ? It occurred as we were defending another corner, and brought everyone back again. There was a fair bit of abuse and moaning aimed at JMc about leaving no-one up the field. Couldn't hear what he said, but don't think it was anything other than frustration on the level and volume of the comments. He just looked as though he was trying to explain why he was doing it. He needs to either ignore the crowd, or change his policy of bringing everyone back. I know he says the stats back up his stance. I wonder whether just moving a player to midway between the penalty area and the halfway line would give us the best of both. That player could pick a headed clearance or get up to pressure them and reduce the chances of a good ball back into the box. Apparently he changed to two up front because that's what we wanted to see. But failed to realise it was attacking football we want to see. Just sticking another man up there doesn't address the problem by itself. Slightly changing how we set up at corners doesn't fundamentally affect the way you set up, but would certainly reduce the abuse. I think the real problem is that JMc is really a coach, not a manager. There can be a big difference between the two.

Also, I'm not one to pick out players but Mitchell.. as good as he may be at gymnastics he's one for the cameras, which is something the lower league doesn't have.
The first goal was saveable IMO. Will wait for the highlights but I'm pretty sure his positioning was out.

For me it seemed that at 2-2 it was game over, another point in the bag everybody stopped took a breather and defended rather than looking for the 3rd, which is worrying. I know we did end up losing BUT in future, would rather lose a match chasing the win (As long as it's visible) than drawing, we can't keep drawing, they mean nothing.

Macca admits himself, he doesn't go out to win, he goes out not to lose. In other words he will settle for just a point each and every time and personally it's not the attitude I want from our manager. Would hate to think what tripe he'd have come out with had we not been beaten today. No doubt he'd have a go at us for not sticking behind the team and being fickle before congratulating himself on masterminding the comeback.

He pushed up to win the ball and in that situation you either have to win it or smash him and give the free kick away. He did neither and gave them a chance to pop a ball behind McCombe and Astles who were never going to win the race. In defence of McCombe, he is clearly playing through injury. Mitchell could have done better but it was a great strike and caught him by surprise. My issue with Mitchell is that he is rooted to his line, which is surprising given his size.

I feel for you mate as your efforts are being undermined by what's happening on the pitch. Atmosphere is a two way thing....sometimes the fans need to give the team a lift but without a home win in 8 months it's hard to get the motivation to bounce about and sing.

It seems incredible that a man who seems to put so much time into research and statistics could have such a poor understanding of how to accumulate points. He does realise that 46 points will send us down? You can't be content with draw after draw, especially at home. If you look at four seasons ago when we finished in the bottom four, it was too many draws that did for us really.

If you look at four seasons ago when we finished in the bottom four, it was too many draws that did for us really. He (McCarthy) worries far too much about the opposition rather than concentrating on his own players ability. The comments about FGR last season illustrated this. Comparing them to Barcelona meant the game was lost before kick off. The following week Dover beat FGR and their manager said we were going to get in their faces and show them no respect. He talked up Sutton who were actually slow and sluggish. As soon as the ball was played on the deck the Chester players came alive. With the ball at his feet Mahon does damage. However, first half he had more touches with his head than feet. Oh well at least we are not York City hey Macca?

Can't really add much to the comprehensive, accurate (and numerous) comments on yesterday's performance.
Sadly, such views are now being expressed after every game; it must be blatently obvious to everyone, fans and board members alike that we've not just reached a tipping point, we've crossed it.
The vast majority of fans are not idiots. Indeed, take away the more odious personal comments aimed at JM (which smack of the worst of Twitbook), and you can see that most people are actually intelligent people who know exactly what they're seeing week in and week out and are expressing their views because they're desperate for the Club to succeed. Most people will also recognise the limitations placed upon us by being fan-owned in a league with some serious money in it. Deep down, I suspect all we want is to be reasonably competitive and be entertained in the process whilst maintaining some hope that, just possibly, we might punch above our weight.
Whilst we see performances like yesterday, we are unlikely to develop, indeed you can easily foresee a decline and relegation. The root cause for this parlous situation must rest with an ultra-cautious manager, who apparently places great emphasis on theories, stats and analysis. The result is a team stifled by technicalities and tactics which, I suspect, the players don't really buy into. Yesterday, however it came about, for 20 minutes, we played "free", "flowing" football to which the crowd responded terrifically (proving my point regarding the fans desires) only to snatch defeat from the jaws of a possible victory.
Unfortunately, 10 or 20 minutes on the odd occasion, does not make up for long periods of utter tedium. It also, doesn't win enough games.
For committed diehard fans, it's almost a "duty" to turn up and support the team. Unfortunately, it's almost becoming a "chore"; the anticipation of going to the game is rapidly being eroded for many people, the drop in attendance speaks volumes
We are currently averaging 0.75 points per game, we need about 1.2 to just about survive. The longer this goes on, the greater the mountain will be. We could easily end up needing 3 or 4 consecutive wins just to get back "on track" for survival.
I really can't see this improvement coming from the current setup and it's for these reasons I feel that a change has to be made sooner rather than later.

I'm going to Glasgow on Tuesday morning to do some babysitting. I've told them I'll have to head back the following Monday morning for the Macclesfield match. After the season so far I've decided that I'll stay in Glasgow. I'd rather enjoy looking after a 3 year old than watch us roll over to Macc. I'm regretting renewing my season ticket already. I'm not one for calling for sacking people, but if we haven't got 11 points after 10 games then he should go because he's not even achieving his own meagre 1.1 points per game. Somehow I doubt it will happen though. The board need to act in the best interests of the football club, because we'll end up being another Stockport (with about a third of their support).

I know there's all the usual lines about it being our club etc but us lot on this site are some of the most loyal CFC fans around and we shouldn't be turning our back on the club due to a manager who's getting it all wrong.
