Please do not give it to Tom shaw. What will happen is that we will improve in the short term, but once given the job we will be in the same position as now. Get a manager in who knows the requirements of the national league

Didn't know much about Andy Holden (I'm under 40) but his coaching record sounds top notch. Part of the Everton coaching staff through a few managerial changes. Presumably good friends with Alan Stubbs, as he was his assistant at Hibs and then Rotherham last season. Knows the WPL, the area and has good contacts throughout the game it would seem. Hopefully he's a shouter, no more nicey nice managers. Macca and Burr both good honest blokes, we need someone ruthless. Sharps could work out but not a chance he's leaving Walsall to come back here. Bignot did well to unearth Bogle and a few others, decent connections in the game with having retired from playing fairly recently Got to agree, ruthless ,an old school type of Manager a kick up the ass for underperforming players, non of this arm around the shoulder stuff. And also as another poster has said got to be free from Community work and be allowed to concentrate 100% on the first team.

Regarding previous of giving a trial run i.e the 3 games. We need to bare in mind that it's quite likely that things will improve in the short term as it often does under a different regime. That said I think it's very important we go for someone with a track record at conference level as the target has to be maintaining conference status with anything else a bonus. That surely maximises our chances of staying on this league with a chance to kick on during the summer.

Disagree. It would be very unusual to sack a manager and replace him straightaway. How often do you see clubs do that? There's almost always a period of searching for a replacement in between. There needs to be an interview process etc before anyone can be appointed, and you can't start interviewing candidates before you've even sacked your existing manager. Very regular having someone in mind, virtually lined up, prior to the departure of a manager. Take Marco Silva at Watford, resigning from Hull and walking straight into Watford. How long did Man United have Jose Mourinho lined up? So you are comparing us to two premiership teams?

It's nailed on to be Burr, not on much at staleyvegas and knows the squad. Can't wait, entertaining footie at last!

Board members have come out saying McCarthy was the standout candidate from the interviews with his passion and philosophy for the club. As they said "the right option, not the cheap option".

Bignot or Brabin for me. Both work well on small budgets and can get the best out of the players.
Graham Barrow is a legend and am not sure he would the pressure cooker of gaffer after years of being assistant.
Would love Shaun Reid to get a chance but don't think it's quiet the right time.

How long did Man United have Jose Mourinho lined up? So you are comparing us to two premiership teams? Not at all. My comment that frequent lining up managers prior to the departure of the existing manager was not agreed with. I merely quoted two examples, both from the premiership because you will be aware that there is phenomenally more media exposure of events at that level.

Bignot for me. Think we have to avoid taking easiest, cheapest option (Shaw) or going for name value (Moore). The mentality of the club, on the pitch at least, needs changing. Personally think Marcus Bignot is the man. Would love Barrow to come in and do a great job but I don't think he's the right man. Knowing the National League and the leagues below has to be a prerequisite. Like Barrow, the thought of Shaun Reid coming in and turning things round is a nice one, he certainly wouldn't lack passion. Maybe it's a league above him BUT you never know, sometimes things just click and Reidy could be the man we've been looking for, is it worth a shot? Sometimes you have to take a punt, that said, if Bignot applies then we should be biting his hand off

I love your enthusiasm, but I'm afraid lots of people lie, in many walks of life. Chester FC is no different. Perhaps they should have said "right option, conveniently also the cheapest option". As you have noticed over the past 9 months it certainly wasn't the right option.

Little over 14 days to invite applications, arrange 1st and 2nd interviews then introduce the newbie before the Maidenhead match, normal timescale in my experience.

I'm a firm believer in saying NO to "is it worth a risk" shouts. Talk of Shaun Reid is football suicide, we can't afford to take any risks now this is our conference and financial status at risk with this next appointment. There can be no maybes. We simply have to make the right appointment now and pressure will be heavily on the board to deliver. It has to be a man with experience at this level and knows how to get results, not just the popular choice amongst supporters.

Being reported on Twitter that Ronnie Moore is the man the board fancy, a lot of support for him.
I hope that isn't true. Not keen on him personally. Yes he's experienced but he'll cost ££££ and I'm not even sure he's all that motivated anymore.
Just like appointing another Burr. Can we just have someone who will unite the fan base, not split it!?

I really don't think Moore would be a good appointment. Not in with the ethos of the club at all. Remember him complaining at Eastleigh that he desperately needed another striker, even though he had five to choose from? What would he make of the situation here? I guarantee within weeks he'd be moaning about what he had to work with, and we've already heard far too much of that over the last three years. We need someone hungry who understands the club and is clear about what he has to work with. Big no to Moore from me and I hope it's just Twitter drivel.

Ronnie Moore tweeted Hartlepool after our 1-1 draw saying "Need to be beating teams like Chester". For that alone I don't want him near the club. He'd be better off waiting for Mellon to get the sack and go to Tranmere so he can resume his betting irregularities.

Our most successful manager didn't have to apply for the job at the time - he was head-hunted. Most clubs tend to do that these days, especially at the top level, often having certain people lined up ready to step in almost immediately. It's admirable that we do it "properly" inviting applications and having a proper process but it often means we miss out on the best we can get.

Three games seems an awfully long time for caretaker manager(s). Even if this "trio" won the three games there is no way they should be offered the gig. We need a complete clear out, which is what we should have done after we sacked Burr (who I understood is now paid in full). There is no way Tom Shaw should be allowed to continue in any other capacity other than first team player. I hope lessons are learnt.

Regardless of if we end up relegated. There is no way a club like us could afford to be paying off two managers and employing a third. The smartest thing possible would be as you say, get Tom Shaw back playing. Get a manager in on a contract until the end of the season, clear all of JM's deadwood (Iwelumo) Tom Shaw can be a coach, that's no issue, he's very highly thought of at Derby County, however that shouldn't be him primary focus!

This is exactly the point I made last night, so it's nice to know someone else agrees. It's bad enough that we have deprived a real manager of the opening eight games, and it concerns me that this is going to be extended by another four games due to this "process" of applications being put in place. Sadly my disappointment over these troublesome months has created suspicion. I am concerned that this window of opportunity is being created for another cheapskate appointment. Before the critics start, please note that this is a suspicion i.e. Based on emotion and not fact.

Dino Maamria is set to apply for the vacant job I would send that one straight over to the shred-it bin. Left Southport for travel/family reasons, sacked at Newport with them 11 points adrift at the bottom. Yes he did well at Southport, won 7 in a row to help them up the league a bit at the time, but every manager has a good spell. He is not the man, IMO.

If this is the case then we need to approach him. No fucking about with applications. Go out and get who we need. Get Bignot in before Saturday, 3 games of being managed by inexperienced managers before appointing a an experienced one is idiotic, we will be 9 points adrift before someone comes in.

Surely not Ronnie Moore. Hasn't had a good season for years. Always thought himself above League Two, never mind National League. As others have said, seems to be be a money orientated manager. Not for us.
Bignot has good recent credentials. I wasn't keen when he was first suggested, but seems the best candidate we've come up with between us all, so far.
Our Constitution seems to insist all job are advertised and interviewed for openly. Presume that is what will happen here. Not sure that should stand for the First Team Manager position.
Let's get the best First Team Manager we can. Forget the good with Community stuff. We have other people doing that really well. Let them get on with it. Sure any keen Manager would realise the good PR he could get by chipping in.
