We appointed a number of fitness and conditioning coaches during the summer but we don't have adequate facilities according to JM. Strange comment to make. Where do we train then? Surely we have training facilities? I thought we trained at the uni, MBNA complex and at Saughall.

I've just listened to the 'interview'. He talks about a 'record' 17!game unbeaten run. I thought we went 30 games without defeat during 2012/13?

It was available for training to take place but McCarthy CHOSE to give the players the week off. McCarthy is just twisting it to fit his own agenda. Sort of like what he accused the press lads of last week...

Correct, he is even making up stats to justify his style of management. If this was going on at any other club I would be pissing myself in laughter, but sadly it's happening to us.

We were lucky again, nothing wrong with their 2nd goal and again they had plenty of chances. We again as the TUFC fans have said are the worst team they've seen this season. We're not going to move until the deluded one leaves. Well, their was something wrong. MCCombe was left with a broken nose. It was rightly disallowed and many Torquay fans have said the same.

First thing I would say is the Torquay goal happened because we pack men deep in the area and have nobody to pick up the second ball on the edge of the box, meaning unless the ball is really thumped clear (which is hard to do from a header) it's going to come straight back to us. I would not really say that goal is Halls' fault although his header could've been better, it's more down to a flaw in how McCarthy sets us with so much space between defence and attack, giving the player all day to pick his spot. Not the first goal we've conceded like that this season.
At 1:06, that's pure greed from the Torquay player. He was never going to score from there and a pass to either of the two players in support would've put us 2-0 down.
Correct decision to disallow the goal. Even if it's not deemed a foul, it's a head/face injury that's drawn blood and could have caused concussion, so should have led to a stoppage. It's a cracking strike and it's doubtful we'd have stopped it anyway, but I don't really see how they can argue with that. Good refereeing.
Great finish from Hannah. Having a natural finisher on the pitch has got us a point we seemingly barely deserved.

I'm not sure you are right there Matt just before the goal there appears to have been contact with McCombes head whether it be an elbow or foot, he is holding his head straight away so the Lino might have been right with this one Absolutely he was right, I saw the kick to the face, and McCombe came up looking like an extra in The Walking Dead. His face was a mess. Definitely a free kick for us it was dangerous play whether there had been any connection or not.

I watched the highlights. I thought we'd had a decent half and created a few chances but it didn't look like that on the highlights.

Well the highlights don't show McCombe hitting the post from a Dawson corner for starters, no idea why. Wouldn't call it a decent half as such but we did have chances in it.

There was also the ball dropped into Bell just inside the box, but his first touch was too heavy and took it too close to their keeper. The Torquay fans were creaming themselves on their forum about how good their new French goalkeeper is. Shows he had plenty to do.

We never went 17 games unbeaten anyway - the stat was one defeat in 17 games. Not the same thing as it's more like a 9-game unbeaten run followed by a 7-game one. We did manage a club record for league games without conceding during that run though. Think maybe that's what he was on about.

Isn't the disallowed goal scorer the former Wrexham player James Gray? The one who drove up the A55 heavily intoxicated posing a risk to innocent road users! The route that a lot of my family and friends fans pass each day! To James Gray I say 🖕🏼

Gray was on the same train home as me last night until he got off at Shrewsbury funnily enough. Got his bloody skates on after full time to get to Torre station down the hill just after twenty past five!

I don't know if anyone has thought to mention it on this forum, but perhaps we would play better under a different manager. 😀

The failure of our players to close down on the edge of the box is becoming a real problem. Three of them standing watching when their goal is scored. This is not tactics, just basics. It does beg the question how committed some of them are to the cause.

National League Highlights: Totally the wrong reason given for the disallowed Torquay goal there. We always seem to be the last game they show on this programme. Are we the most uninteresting team in the division?

It does beg the question how committed some of them are to the cause. It's a reoccurring problem, we were doing it a lot during the second half of last season, and we're still doing it now. You can't tell me its the players fault. He's changed the bulk of the side over the summer and the system still isn't working.
So what in any sane persons mind do you do if you tried it once, and it failed, then try it again with a new group of players and it fails again?
A. You adapt your system to suit the strengths of the squad. You don't try and shoehorn players into playing a system and style that they are visibly uncomfortable and unfamiliar with.
We've seen in 15-20min glimpses this season of the football this side is capable of playing when they get the ball down, get it into Turnbull and allow the likes of him and Craig Mahon to orchestrate the play. There is creativity in that squad, but it is being/has been stifled due to the way McCarthy is trying to get them to play.
If you go away to a big side in the cup with no realistic chance of winning then yeah, go out, try and shut up shop, frustrate your opponent and try and get lucky by catching them out on the break. But when you're playing at home in a league game against teams like Halifax, Sutton, Fylde and Macclesfield, get the ball down, get it wide, look to switch the play and stretch the opposition on the nice wide pitch we have, which is made for wingers to thrive on.
It's all such a waste

'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results' - Einstein. I've always found that quote a bit odd because, roughly speaking, scientific method is doing the same thing over and over again in case you get different results.

I've always found that quote a bit odd because, roughly speaking, scientific method is doing the same thing over and over again in case you get different results. Bit like jumping out of a plane without a parachute, over and over again until you learn how to fly. Good luck with that plan. I was, obviously, commenting on the strangeness of Einstein - a scientist - saying this. (Though I suppose he was a theoretical physicist rather than an experimental one, so there is that.) Regarding the original point being made: you could argue that drilling the squad even more - i.e. doing the same thing over and over again - is the way forward as the players will know their roles better, so results might improve. You might also point to the example of Burr signing every player under the sun as a good example of why you shouldn't just try something new. I wouldn't argue that myself in this case, but you could. I guess what I'm getting at is that quotes that are supposed to summarise wisdom rarely do as they miss context and complication, much like you missed the original point of my post (which was, if you still don't get it, to do with Einstein and not Chester FC). Still, lesson learnt - post anything that might be construed as cheerful on here and get told to jump out of a plane. Great stuff.
