The third goal is down to panicking. They've just thumped it in the box and let us do the rest for them.
It's Mitchell's error but he's not the only one to blame. Halls and the man on the line (Sheron?) are neither on the post nor marking anyone, there are too many players generally moping about in the six yard box without really doing anything, and I think it actually goes in off Dawson's back. It's not an unlucky goal, it's a disorganised, panicky one at a point in the game where you really need to stay focused.
That's why we're losing games - mentality and concentration for a full 90 minutes.

I think some of you on here need to give your heads a shake and put your dummies back in listening to the commentary tonight the boys gave it a right good go and Barr from a goalkeeping error would have go a great point after falling 2-0 down to come storming back to draw level, do you really think that we would have done this a couple of weeks ago I think not. Yes it is disappointing to lose the game like that but some of the rubbish being posted on here is unbelievable. Also let's not forget the fact that before last night, Gateshead had not conceded a goal at home.

halls has been shocking all season as bad as Higgins No he hasn't! Difficult to avoid his own goal but that doesn't give you reason to say he's been shocking as he hasn't. What about Saturday when he put in a MOTM performance. When we signed him from Macc their fans said he was no loss and I put that down to sour grapes, but he needs to be a lot better than he currently is.

Football can be cruel, on balance of play we didn't deserve to lose, but saying that we've shot ourselves in the foot conceding 3 avoidable goals. We conceded at bad times as well, just before and after half time. After a good first half we had a poor 20 mins or so at the start of the second but White made a difference when he came on, and when we got the first I did think we could get something from the game. Waters with a quality finish to equalise, can see why he was scoring loads in the youth team! Needs to be given more of a chance, if he plays on the wing his lack of strength won't be an issue. But to concede the way we did at the end was gutting, Mitchell had a good game up to that point but a poor error. We have a real player on our hands in Dawson. Hope Turnbull's injury isn't bad as we really saw what he could do on Saturday, but all our play came through Dawson when he came on. He's got a great eye for a pass, dictates play and his set piece delivery is generally very good. Only 23 so a bright future for sure. The match reminded me a bit of the Burr days, it was an entertaining game and we looked good going forwards, but too many defensive mistakes. But at least we lost having tried to win the match, rather than trying not to lose and still losing - some progress! I think we'll get there, this team should not be getting relegated, and someone who hasn't managed before has already made us look a more threatening side. Tough game Saturday, not expecting anything from it, but after that we have a run of winnable home games that we must get a good points haul from. Enjoyed everything you said there until the second half of the last sentence. Winnable home games and Chester FC don't belong in the same sentence. You do know that we haven't won a home game for 270 days?

I have just watched the highlights and have tried to digest what has happened. The second goal is poor from the full backs perspective. And Mitchell well it's not great. A goalkeeper should at a minimum get a punch on it. That said I thought he had a good game against ebbsfleet. Games in this league are generally littered with errors by players because that's this level. The last two games do give cause for optimism. I suggested on another thread I couldn't understand why we didn't sign a genuine centre back on loan. Surely there must have been one available? I think we are getting a clear picture of how far back JM has set us. It seems from Saturday and last nights game that we have come on considerably under Tom Shaw and all credit to him for doing so. This league has no stand out teams in it this season. Halifax are 2nd in the table. I have watched them twice and they are certainly not world beaters. The fact we are two results away from getting out the relegation zone doesn't need to create hysteria. I assume the board are setting the timeframes that they have due to wanting to conduct the process in the correct manner. Also that there other commitments make it difficult to rush things through? At this stage with the application deadline having closed can anyone confirm who has submitted their application? I wish the board well in their selection process and will back and support whoever gets the job. It may well be a long season but I am sure we have enough to move away from the position we find ourselves in.

fair play to shaw in his interview very honest and not blaming the budget or injuries which has been used over the last few years

He's not management material yet and I think he knows it himself, but he seems a good, passionate character. Would still prefer to see him in the team rather than the dugout though.

Second Gateshead goal was very avoidable if our number2 (sheron?) Had a backbone and made a tackle. Should have committed to winning that tackle. Unforgiveable if players don't have the fight or passion to make those tackles. Number 2 is Halls. Looks like he didn't have the best night at all. The new Luke George? 'Best right back in the league on his day.' From what I've seen Halls has been pretty hopeless all season in my eyes.

Make no doubt about it we are in a relegation battle. Went up to Gateshead and bitterly dispointing to conceed after clawing our way back. For a collection of experienced defenders we should be able to do better than that. This league is all about attacking and defending set pieces and 2 of the goals were too cheap.h Hannah I thought was poor. Nothing that went up to him stuck and it puts us under pressurre. Positive. Mahon was unplayable first half. Unlike some. I thought Sheron had a decent game and linked up well with the excellent Waters who needs more game time. James worked tirelessly and Dawson played well. Conclusion. This is not a play off squad. It is too threadbare and imbalenced. However with a degree of organisation. That only an experienced manager can bring. We may avoid releegation but a big improvement will be required.

It was one of those ones it shouldn't have been too hard to call either, making it doubly frustrating. Some lightweight tackles didn't help our cause looking at those highlights. Nothing wrong with taking everything with the ball - what Ron Atkinson used to refer to as a "reducer!" Great goal from Matty. The best thing about it was that he didn't just whack it - he picked his spot.

Thanks Matt. Hell of a strike from Waters, pleased for the lad. Stinking clanger from Mitchell at the end has cost us badly. Halls & Sheron look way off in those clips too. Yep absolutely dog crap from Mitchell that and it's cost us a point.
