John McCombe is apparently 32. He runs around like a 62 year old. Check his ID Bignot, he’s having you on. His gut is getting bigger every week. Absolute donkey! Supposed to have played 300+ games of football him, baffling decision making at times. Can forgive him for getting beat in a foot race but someone like him should be getting that stuff right. The three of them were a calamity to be honest. Rowe-Turner and Halls have both sneaked back in to the side due to injuries and look at the state of the goals we’re conceding again.

Thought Rowe-Turner was one of our better players to be honest. Gough had a stinker, although he isn't a "repeat offender" so deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Halls Johnson is looking a huge miss for us, as it Tom Shaw. With Shaw you're going to get a battler regardless and not someone who's head drops after going two behind. It's really disappointing as they proved under MB they are capable of coming from behind to get points, yet today it was like they'd have the life sucked out of them after they scored.

First goal down to Ross Hannah thinking he can get the ball and hold stronger players off. He is trying to play in the wrong areas. After that the confidence drained out of the squad and they fell apart. Have heard rumours about squad not happy, do not know anymore than that but de one half was gutless.

The players were asked to go downstairs to The Blue Bar afterwards - hope they saw how gutted the fans would have been!
Had to be the worse half of football I can remember. We actually looked like we gave up at 2.
I want Bell to get angry - throw his weight around a bit. As another poster said, he has the perfect physique but doesn't use it.
At least the other results were ok and we get a fortnight off!

Agree with the general views on today's game, and the individual players performances.
I'm getting concerned about MB now too, though. I know we've got loads of injuries, and a small limited squad. However, I don't think he's using the players that well.
I can see why he has tried a back three. However, the front three isn't working. Two of them are effectively playing out of position. And the two left in midfield often get outnumbered. Leaving the defence vulnerable.
Hannah needs to be right upfront. We need him scoring goals. MB seems to be trying to turn into Juan Mata. Akintunde ended up playing deeper than four other players.
When you're a crap and slow at the back as we are, you need to stay compact. We just pushed more and more men forward, with no-one covering the back three/four at all. At one stage we had Halls left midfield, Rowe-Turner wide left, Gough in front of them and Dawson got the ball and realised he only had McCombe behind him. A struggling team needs to have a formation that gives them a chance to stay in games. Had we kept it at one, then pushed on, we may have done better.
The midfield doesn't have balance. Dawson is the only player who tried to be creative. But he's a young lad struggling in a team where there is so little forward movement.
I think we need the extra body in midfield, and play two right upfront.
MB makes a lot of changes during games, but they just make us more disorganised. Whether that's down to the inability of the players, or his tinkering. I don't know. But if both probably.
I know we are broke, but bringing in loads of teenagers is just a short term solution. We brought in eight(?) players. How many of them are good enough to start? Archer, Gough, Hall-Thompson? MB gets a lot of slack because of what he inherited, and the injuries we've got. Quite rightly. Question is, if everyone was fit how would he do? Truthful answer is none of us know. I keep coming back to the comments on the Grimsby forum about him constantly making changes in personnel and formation. I really hope this is only happening now, due to the injuries. Someone else posted about him losing the players, I really hope that isn't the case.

Not enough of them are prepared to put themselves on the line. Hannah backing out of a header for fear of injury etc and that sums up the mentality of this group. There are very few players you would want to keep

Look some prospective here. We lost to a team looking to go up. We were superb first half, dominated the game and deserved to be ahead. Second half, they stepped their game up, we made a couple of mistakes and found ourselves behind. They added a couple of late goals to give the score line a flattering view as they scored as we were battling to get back into it. The next few games against teams in and around us, that’s the ones we need to focus on. Come on the blues and keep the faith peeps. I'd like some of what you're drinking. Are you one of the deluded souls that still believe we can stay up? Will stay up, honestly believe it. Just for the record too, I’m not a big fan of mr. Maguire, don’t fully trust him and the Bignot appointment wouldn’t have been my choice, but believe that the team, manager and board are pulling in the right direction. It may not be pretty, but we are not adrift at the bottom, there are plenty of poor teams and we will pick up enough points to be safe. Keep the faith.

What are your feelings on his argument that his average points tally matched that of Paul Hurst when he was sacked? Listening to him this week, I sense he feels very hard done to - particularly in light of the success Hurst has then gone on to have at Shrewsbury.

Listening to him this week, I sense he feels very hard done to - particularly in light of the success Hurst has then gone on to have at Shrewsbury. Quite simply his points tally didn't match Hurst's and it's just more evidence of his artistic licence with the truth.. He averaged 1.3 points per game to Hurst's 1.4. Plus under Hurst we never got hammered. In Bignot's short tenure we lost 5-1 at home to local rivals Donny, 4-0 at Portsmouth and 5-0 to a Crewe side that hadn't won in 8 games at the time. Under Hurst we were always in the game, under Bignot a lot of the performances were embarrassing. Even after three months there was no sign of any method to the play and nobody had worked out how he was trying to get us to play, the players generally looked like they didn't know how they were meant to be playing either. Even when we won 3-0 at Orient, they were the better team in the first half and had a team full of 18 year olds who won 1 game out of the last 15. He's a charlatan I'm afraid.

But I fear we have nowhere to go at the moment. We'll have to hang in there and see where it takes us - though I fear it's down.

I, like a few others realised today that the hope of us remaining in the Conference National have disappeared completely. Not only that, I cannot see us winning 6 games all season. It's worse than when Pejic and Mann were managers. Whether MB will be trusted with us in the Conference North next season remains to be seen, although I expect him to leave his post sometime in February or March. You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Everyone seems to blaming Gough and McCombe. Agree they were poor but Halls was shit beyond belief. The first two goals were scored because he stood 5 yards off the man who put the crosses in. if you don't let the ball be come into the box you might not concede 2 tap ins.

Don’t think slaughtering the bloke who is trying to go about improving an inherited mess in the right way is the best thing to do myself, I know it’s easy to launch in to such a limp second half display but I’ve just accepted that considering where we are, we’re likely to get this sort of result and performance from time to time. Whilst I don’t think Bignot particularly covered himself in glory with his tactics on the day, I do think, generally, that he’s improved us a bit and giving a good fist of it. It’s annoying to lose such a winnable game though, admittedly. Dagenham being where they are in the league just demonstrates how undeniably shit it is.
Previously McCarthy seemed happy to take a point from every game, even at home, against anyone. Whilst the defeats might be bigger under Bignot I do think the approach gives us a better chance to take three points more often. For example I don’t think a McCarthy led side would have pushed for that late winner against Barrow, he’d have accepted the 2-2 and sat on it and we’d be sitting on two points less than we even are now.
We’re so weak at the back, that central three who started today are so bad, McCombe is the best of a bad bunch but he gets things wrong that a player of his experience shouldn’t. Halls and Rowe-Turner have sneaked back in the side due to injuries but they are a liability. Feel a bit sorry for Gough, he got plenty wrong himself but for some reason Bignot keeps switching him and Rowe-Turner every five minutes from left wing back to left centre back, can’t be ideal doing that. Gough certainly isn’t the tallest as the last line of defence in the middle. Akintunde had a decent game but sometimes tries too much and came too deep at times. Much better from James back in his natural position but he looked really tired later on. Dawson had a bit of a shocker in the second half, think his head went. Poor effort from Lynch, I like him but he’s got to show more. Bell strutted around like some precious princess up top, he has something about him but christ I’m loathed to put up with no-shows like that for much longer.
Big month coming up with a load of fixtures against similarly struggling clubs, just need to get behind them. Hopefully this little break before our next game can see a few injuries clear up.

Second half was similar to the first half at Aldershot when they hit the bar 3 times. Different manager...same team.
I thought Dagenham second goal was poignant. Their winger quite easily beats Halls and his cross beats the 3 or so Chester players between him and the goal leaving about 3 Dagenham players v 2 Chester ones. But also the Dagenham player has the composure to spot a players run and neatly set him up. We don't seem capable of that. Plenty of possession but little end product. It's the sort of skills you hone on a 5 a side pitch where you have little time to create space but the good players with tight ball control just have that technical ability and composure to make space and make it look easy. And these types are players are probably playing in the best local 5 a side leagues. Our players don't look capable of that type of football which would enhance our game.

On the other forum, they seem to be blaming the referee for what happened yesterday.
Haven't seen anyone mention the incident where James landed on his neck. It looked nasty but it was an accident in fairness, probably a little harsh to book their player.

He didn't give us much but you cannot blame an official for a 0-4 defeat, which could have been more had it not been for a penalty miss and striking the woodwork.

He's not got much to work with, but Bignot's tactics yesterday were frustrating.
He's gone 3 at the back to solidify us and it's worked to an extent, we've produced decent away performances. At home though, we're so narrow that it's hard to create chances. When our wing backs had the ball, they looked up and had no options whatsoever. Surely we needed Hannah and Bell to pull wide to run the channel? That would allow us to keep the ball and also create holes for a surging Akintunde/Dawson/James to get forward? Bell and Hannah stayed more or less on top of each other and as a result we had to turn and play backwards.
MB has impressed me hugely since he arrived, but I thought we needed to see something different yesterday. Away from home it suits us, but at home I'd like to see a bit of width.

Nor the two footed tackle from behind though my brother was watching on telly & said the red got that one right.
