I heard a rumour that it was 2years but with a break clause he can exercise at the end of this season. I’m not a MB apologist but to be honest I wouldn’t blame him for calling it quits in the next few weeks. I think this squad is beyond hope and short of putting a sniper in the stands with instructions to pick them off if they are not trying, I don’t think this squad is willing and/or able to improve. If that’s true then Maguire needs to be sacked. The McCarthy farce cost us greatly and now giving this arrogant prat a two year deal is beyond redemption! I can see the logic. If you inherited McCarthy’s squad wouldn’t you want the opportunity to shape your own squad? That would have meant a contract to the end of next season cos we all know there’s no more cash for this season.

Just a few points to make on today. James Jones isn't anywhere near ready, he ball watches and chases the ball out of position like a boy at the park, so many times he was dragged all over the place. It's actually not his fault he's playing when he's nowhere near ready it's McCombe for being a disgrace to football. Comparisons though to Sam Hughes are laughable. Dawson is a shambles of a player that would do no more than me over 90 minutes on a pitch, only if show more effort, if also let the game pass me by. We looked 10x better having 4 at the back, even with ten men. Maybe Guiseley felt it was job done, but still when everyone can see it, why can't MB? There's a collection of people at the club to blame but I honestly think we're down now, nobody can turn people into footballers sadly. so you are slagging off young Jones but you haven't mentioned the worst left back we have had since Burnham getting slagged off the same left back that pissed about for there first goal and went walkies for the second goal I agree about Dawson though but have a go at Lenny henry at left back

Another loss, can't even be bothered putting any comments about the match because it's the same old shite. With the exception of Astles and Shaw, none of them seemed to even care which is an insult to the paying fans and I cannot accept that.
I wasn't even angry today, just sad. We're in an absolute mess, all the positivity felt after getting our club back has just gone. Massive changes are needed from top to bottom or, as others have said, I can see us dropping straight through the National League North as well.
Just to show what an abysmal calendar year we have had, I've looked at all the competitive games in 2017, and our record is a pitiful:
P: 50 W: 9 D: 10 L: 31 GF: 49 GA: 93
Patience has ran out, even from the most optimistic of us. It's become a chore to support our team and it shouldn't be that way.

If you have a re-read ive criticised the decision to play him when clearly not ready for this level of competition. If you're referring to LRT he wasn't left back, he was left centre back and yes he didn't play well but not hard to point out the obvious when he got dismissed after 20 minutes. I actually feel sorry for Jones and I knew when I posted about him if have someone up his behind because he's a young local lad, but local and young or not he isn't ready, and MB is feeding him to the wolves.

I agree with you and I said it when he made his debut. His positional sense needs a huge amount of work as he gets dragged around and he needs to improve his strength - particularly when dealing with some of these big lumps in the National League. He's nowhere near the standard of Sam Hughes at the same stage. However, if it's a choice between him and McCombe, you would take Jones all day long. Just feel sorry for the lad that he's been thrown in to this sorry mess.

There are many people to blame for the sorry state we find ourselves in - Bignot and the board included - but the main culprit is Jon McCarthy. It's absolutely criminal that he was allowed to stay over the summer and his recruitment has proven exactly how out of his depth he was. He clearly had no clue how he wanted to play and just handed contracts out to experienced pro's to appease the fanbase.
If Bignot was sacked tonight, I'd not be distraught. I think he's tactically baffling and is beginning to give very odd soundbites to the press. Having said that, he isn't to blame really. He's working with a dreadful squad of unfit, untalented players who are here for an easy ride. MB is a scapegoat really, but he's not helping himself.
In terms of the players, I thought Gough gave it his all and did okay. Reece Hall-Johnson is a good player, too. The rest of them were garbage.
If ever a player summed up our malaise, it's Harry White. Absolutely bang average, always injured and just offers nothing. I'm sure he's a nice lad, but he's terrible at his job.
Finally, the atmosphere before the game even started was toxic. I understand frustration, but it doesn't sit well with me that players are being called 'useless c***s' prior to kick off. If we're 4-0 down, then whatever, but this was before a ball had been kicked. It definitely contributes to the fear factor around playing at home for these players.
Also, totally agree on James Jones. Promising as he may be, he's clearly not ready for this battle and if we're to even hold a glimmer of hope, we need to sign an experienced centre half.

People might not like to hear it, but he’s right. We’re all drained and just turn up hoping to be surprised rather than having any genuine belief or confidence in these players. Don’t get me wrong it’s their own fault and Bignot probably should have kept it to himself but he’s not wrong when you think about it.

I think we just need to play this season out. There's no point sacking Bignot as we're not going stay up whoever we appoint. Start again in the Conference North and review the situation. It might actually do us some good. Don’t agree with this - we need to stay in this division at all cost I for one won’t be renewing my season ticket if we get relegated - can’t contemplate the conference North Sorry but I’m losing interest fast and couldn’t be arsed to go today this last couple of years have been dire and changes need to be made quickly I have followed the blues for years and we have never really had success but what glimpses we have had have been brilliant but this is awful when you look at other conference teams doing reasonably well - really starting to get very angry with McCarthy and his wasted budget Surely staying up "at all cost" isn't an option. "Never really had success...." oh really, what about all the promotions since the new club came into being, all the joy, all the goals, all the fun. By god WE can only dream of Conference North AND we've been up in the Conference living the dream before Trophy final at Wembley etc. You really do need to get a grip yes your previous manager failed but you have to be careful what you wish for sometimes.

Disagree about Jones,he did ok today, better than most out there, he made mistakes as they all did, but i can except that from an 18yo who is starting out.he never gave up,challenged for everyball won most headers, recovered some very poor passes back to him from the midfield. How Harry White gets a shirt gets me.

Don't worry you'll soon have your derby payday in the glue league as our faceless Board fiddles while Rome burns, and the club inevitably drifts downwards through Conf North. However unrealistic, much of our paying fan base see Chester FC as a continuation of the old Club, and recall the days of the 1990s when we were in FL Div 1, and even the mid 2000s in Div2. Many certainly don't feel we are living the dream right now, more a nightmare, as watching Chester is currently a joyless and depressing experience, although we can continue to dream of visiting Wembley if we can get past the mighty East Thurrock (wherever that is). Winning three non league trophies in a row was a fine achievement , but this was nearly 5 years ago, and since then the Club has struggled on the field and stagnated off it, having failed to build on the earlier success, now exacerbated by a Board who inexplicitly failed to act with commonsense and allowed the current mess to be created. But I suppose success is relative, and Witton fans can only dream of this utter shambles.

Most other clubs fans would have rallied but its almost like we are as bad as the team now and have given up as soon as anything bad happens in a game. I know we all express frustration in different ways and perhaps football is more important in other people’s lives than mine, but as a grown adult I’d be embarrassed with myself if I spent my afternoon relentlessly slagging footballers off. As far the game, others have said it better than me. The breaking point for me was watching Hall Johnson slightly over hit a ball down the channel and White instantly gave up because it wasn’t to his feet and it would have meant him running, therefore Aki had to run his nuts off from the other side of the pitch to go past White and almost got a throw in from it. That sums it up really....you can’t play at this level without your 11 players giving 100% as you will soon be sussed out by opponent and your own fans. I’ve accepted relegation now, sounds like Bignot has too.

When you hear stories about Gough allegedly being off his head on drugs on the players night out, numerous players over weight, and others simply not putting the effort in on the pitch then it’s no wonder we are where we are. Burr always used to say that we can’t get results without all 11 being on it and giving it their all, and he was right. I play team sport and I wouldn’t dream and being on drugs or not giving it my best....it’s called personal pride, and heck I have to pay subs for the privilege of playing too.

Quite telling the quote from Southport's forum that someone put on here, saying that we're the biggest bunch of moaners around.
I've brought mates to games over the years, and they've been surprised at the levels of abuse and anger on the terraces. I'd go as far as to say the casual fan can probably tolerate lousy football, but if the atmosphere is toxic it becomes harder to stomach and just isn't a nice way to spend your free time. Maybe just something for some people to think about.

Someone pings an unstoppable shot in the top corner after 2 mins and that gave people the green light to unleash abuse. Wasn't even like it was a mistake. Ffs it was 2 mins in and as a crowd we turn on them after that, it's embarrassing.

Maybe just something for some people to think about. Don't think there were too many casual fans there today, which had probably more to do with the 4-0 gubbing at Halifax. To be fair, I think our fans were pretty good last season given that we failed to win at home for months and the performances were abject . To put matters into perspective in the last 12 months we have managed to win only 3 of 24 home league games together with some appalling away performances. However It is only recently that patience began to snap when McCarthy continued to manage ineptly and performances didn't improve despite heightened expectations, in part cultivated by the club. Unfortunately even with the change in management performances are little better and many fans have become more frustrated or have given up and voted with their feet . For many of the 500 plus fans at Kiddy, it was that disgraceful non-performance from most players which crossed the line. But to see that kind of performances repeated regularly is just too much. It is difficult to envisage any group of fans (including those numpties at Southport) who would not react in a similarly negative way given the "efforts" of our current team and so called experienced professionals and the abysmal record over the last calendar year.

No they wouldn't. We are much more negative than most fans. There's a Southampton player just offered to buy every fan a beer at Christmas because he was so impressed at the singing and support they were giving even when they were 4-0 down. This is bound to affect our players, we are complicit in the relegation we are heading for.

Ah yes I can see the clear similarity of being beaten at Wembley in front of seventy thousand fans by one of best teams in the Country with that of being outclassed by mid table Halifax and shambolically 4 0 down at half time with our players showing questionable commitment and attitude . Todays "effort" was little better and clearly it is the fans fault !

I believe it's a factor that affects their confidence, not their fault as such as I can't blame the fans for being so fed up by the performances. It's a vicious circle though.

I can see your point, but the fans were giving the team great support at kiddy and Halifax before kick off and in early stages of both matches, so how does this explain those dreadful performances ? Also when the team does stir into life, they do get support such as against Solihull at home after an average first half . It is difficult for fans not to be critical or negative when the team performs so abjectly so regularly. But it was pretty much gallows humour all the way in C block today, and most shouting/stick was at the ref and linesman. I don't think journeymen players such as Halls, James , McCombe, LRT or Turnbull give two hoots what the fans think. Those whose confidence may be affected are likely to be the younger players such as James Jones and most fans have been sensible here.

Can't agree with that. Someone pings an unstoppable shot in the top corner after 2 mins and that gave people the green light to unleash abuse. Wasn't even like it was a mistake. Ffs it was 2 mins in and as a crowd we turn on them after that, it's embarrassing. Glad it’s not just me then , I am starting to feel uncomfortable now at the level of personal vile abuse being directed at our own players, I have no problem with people booing or shouting your not fit to wear the shirt etc. But the level of verbal attacks on players is getting out of hand, the first goal today was a great strike by their lad that no keeper in the land was going to stop but I felt that the 2nd goal and mistake from Astles had a lot to do with the reaction from the fans to going one down. Some people need to have a good look at themselves and the way they are reacting to what is after all just a game, it might feel like life and death but believe me it’s not

Yes your right Premier League Southampton losing to Tottenham at Wembley is exactly the same as being 2-0 down at Home to Guiseley after a 4-0 defeat at Halifax and years of mediocrity.

Not sure where you sit but most people around me in H Block clapped their goal and not a word of abuse was given to the players.

It was very quiet around me when the first goal went in as well. Bit more was shouted in the immediate aftermath of the second goal, but nothing extreme. I can only assume those frothing at the mouth all gather in the same place.
