Read my post and stop feeling sorry for your self. Have you not been told about mortgage breaks. No evictions for renters. And nobody having power supplies cut. They are all things you asked for in your earlier posts. Not feeling sorry for myself at all, as frontline NHS staff myself and my wife are still having to work so it doesn’t affect us. I just care about people worse off than me and don’t think they spend their cash on fags and booze as you have previously alluded to.

Your comment spare cash lol. Did you not say on the football forum you would definitely buy a home and away shirt. If that's not spare cash what is. I have never said everyone smokes and drinks. A lot do. I was a heavy smoker my wife as well. When I returned from working abroad there were still no jobs in UK so a quick calculation told me we were smoking the equivalent of the mortgage payment. We both stopped smoking. Still struggled but kept our house.

Incredible you've actually said this. In fairness, the amount of time you spent posting drivel on here, i'm sure everyone can tell this is a massive lie.

You're a form filler on the ENT department. All you do is ring around patients telling them their appointments have been cancelled!! Some brass neck on you lad!

It was poorly worded of course - not “frontline” but basically ALL NHS employees (no matter the job role) are included in the governments bulletin regarding schools remaining open for their children. The fact that any NHS employee could be redeployed where needed most within their organisation plays a part. And the above poster is wide of the mark in what he says my job role is, hasn’t even got the right department!

My post is merely saying when times are tough you're lifestyle must change. If you are self isolating you can't do the things you would normally spend your cash on. Football theatre cinema or what ever you do with any spare cash. So surely people can manage on less as long as they don't have fear of eviction or power being cut off. If it wasn't for people stockpiling there would be more than enough to go round. Yeah exactly. If you’re self-isolating and off work unpaid (or lose your job because your employer goes bust due to loss of earnings as everyone is self-isolating) then you can’t pay your rent like you normally would or buy food for you and your kids to live on like you normally would. Never mind eh, one of those things isn’t it? Oh well. Suck it up. “Spare cash” - lol. And if they voted Tory "f##k them" as you spouted yesterday.

Very strange how this thread has turned into a denigration of my job. Take it you lot are all neurosurgeons who moonlight as firemen are you?

This is an interesting statistic. Not just Germany either, our death rate is alarmingly high given the relatively low number of cases. I suspect it may just be because we're not actually diagnosing that many people, we're just telling them to stay at home. It's the sort of question I'd like to hear journalists asking at these daily briefings, rather than some of the silly ones I've heard. Someone was even asking about Brexit the other day, for god's sake! I can't wait for today's questioning where Boris will be quizzed on flavours of crisps in the Blues Bar and what are the possibilities of bringing Michael Wilde back. He's just been asked by a Daily Mail journalist whether we can go and visit our mums on Sunday. The "pies with no sides" debate is sure to be next.

What gives anybody the right to say how important any other persons job is? All NHS workers are heroes at the moment, we’re all doing our bit whether it’s doctors, nurses, APNP’s, ward clerks, switchboard operators, HR, payroll officers - and all with great uncertainty at the real possibility of anybody being redeployed to any other department in the hospital where the need is greatest. It is what it is - an exceptionally unprecedented busy time for the service.

As I said “frontline” was a bad choice of words, what I was getting at was the issue of “important” workers whose children will still be going to school and it includes ALL NHS staff.
Apologies for the confusion.

well i agree with you .i dont think the schools closing is going to stop the spread of this virus judging by the amount seen around buckley today treating it like one big holiday.

It's depressing that even at a time like this, journalists are more interested in cheap headlines than keeping people informed on what they need to know.
I bet tomorrow's Daily Mail front page is something like "Now Mother's Day Banned". Another one was desperately trying to get him to call the people still going to pubs "immoral" (a crap angle anyway, who cares?) and there was someone asking some rubbish about young people having house parties.
There are better questions on this thread than I've heard at any of these briefings.

Credit where it's due, they're largely doing the right thing (at least financially) in the circumstances. Kind of going against everything their party represents in doing so, but there you go.

The government failed to heed scientific warnings for seven weeks, until the impact on the stock market hit. Same in America where the Republicans called Covid-19 a hoax in public but made sure they got their money out before the general public could.
There’s a real concern that we will be like Italy in a fortnight.
As for the policies enacted to help it’s amazing how much we need socialism in times of crisis. Jeremy Corbyn was right - “we may have lost the election but we won the argument”, it’s just a shame it’s taken a worldwide pandemic to do so. Saying that, there is still nothing for the sick, disabled and vulnerable who are already on benefits and forced to isolate for months. The five-week wait for UC still remains, those who earn less than £118 a week still don’t qualify for sick pay and self-employed get just £94.25 a week. Still nowhere near good enough.
