Deaths yesterday across Europe: Spain 2 Italy 87 Germany 24 France 52 Turkey 28 Belgium 42 Sweden 84Portugal 14 Ireland 6 Poland 13 Romania 13 Hungary 8 Netherlands 28 UK ... 324 Apparently we’ve met all the conditions to ease lockdown restrictions. Somebody stop the Tory genocide. Sweden's death rate is insane given their fairly small and sparse population. Surprised a country like that would handle it so badly.

I agree but if you remember this is one of the countries we should have followed as they were doing so much better than us. With out a vaccine I think between 30 and 50 deaths per day will be the accepted norm and that is not just here

I think their non-lockdown was widely seen as pretty strange.

When we first went into lockdown there were plenty of people saying Sweden haven't got lock down and look how well they are doing. First off we had. Why haven't we gone into lockdown, fast forward and its, this lockdown is crap we need to get out of it. Now it's too soon to come out of lockdown. Opinions vary I don't know who is right or wrong but I would not like the job of sorting it.

Why is it Death Rate is quoted for Sweden but when it comes to the UK its the number of dead is it because the numbers are bigger and whilst our death rate isn't the best it's not the worst either and no I am not trying to do down the number of deaths 1 is too many but as we know we can make figures say what we want too

It’s the second worst. In the entire world. 194th out of 195. GREAT Britain.

The guardian in April did an article on Sweden say their approach may work quite a big article. I remember the article, and at no point did it say the Swedish approach would work, only that it was an almighty gamble which MAY pay off. Obviously too nuanced for the slack-jawed right wing buffoons who held it up as reason to lift lockdown restrictions.

South Korea has closed its schools again after a second spike of cases. They’ve had less than 300 deaths altogether since the start of the outbreak.
We’re opening schools on Monday. 300-400 people are dying every day in the UK.

I know I’ve always said that the right wing press (and the BBC) are just a propaganda arm of the government but it has now emerged that the government are using OUR money to pay the Daily Heil to publish propaganda articles about how brilliantly they’re handling the epidemic.

Your opinion not necessarily right. Deaths and death rates aren’t opinions, they are facts. Hardly a nebulous concept.

I've just read that an April 23 Sage meeting predicted that England would only have 1,000 cases a day by mid-May, when in fact we're at the end of May and seeing 8,000 a day.
It feels a lot like the government had decided in advance that they wanted to relieve lockdown in June and are sticking with that even though figures are worse than expected.
