Anyway... I see reports of a possible tightening of restrictions over the next few days. Not sure where things can go beyond closing some retail completely rather than allowing click and collect? Unless we want to go down the route of needing permits to leave the house to restrict peoples movements. I can't see how they can tighten things up other than list shops that can stay open. We were working adjacent to a retail park in Reading this morning and Home Bargains, Halfords, B&Q, KFC and B&M were all open and the car park was packed. This lockdown is nothing like the first one and even Chris Wittey said yesterday, when asked about tightening measures, that we need to adhere to the existing restrictions rather than introduce new ones.

More moderators wading in and still Mancots wanker post remains. Jesus wept Lobster will no doubt be along in a minute. Then everhopefull will start handing out 'Offensive' ratings to everyone, well almost everyone. Personally I'm looking forward to this new 'gloves off attitude'. If I'm honest I'm more confused about how he thinks we're both "overzealous" and leaving the forum "wild and unmoderated" at the same time. You can't please everyone as a moderator. As an example, we're obviously driving Oaks Blue mad, but he himself is driving other members mad. We do what we can, we're not professional moderators or independent fact-checkers, and we don't get paid to do it. If you don't like the moderation then I'm sorry but maybe the place is not for you.

It's the double standards to be fair. For example I posted a swear word in one of my posts yesterday, a post that Si 'liked'. It was the same word that you used during the US election thread. This morning I've got 'Offensive' against my name but I can't see one against you. Like I said double standards, don't get me wrong I don't give a flying f@@k about being called offensive on a non-league forum I just think the moderators need to be consistent that's all.

Theres only one moderator here that uses the warning level, which generates the offensive tag on the profile.
And that's everhopeful
It seems none of the moderating team are counselled before he acts, which is obviously the problem
Si has no idea what his team are doing

Good move Si, passions run high at the best of times (and these are currently the worst of times!) but there is proper debate to be had. I'm sure Oaksy can be a real mass debater if he puts his hands to it! Si, I see you have liked this post from Mancot. Just to be clear, you are supportive of forum users calling people wankers now? I trust that his warning level will be suitably increased 👍 He's been calling numerous people offensive things for months. The list of vile and offensive things that have been posted by him is shameful. Numerous posters, groups of individuals etc have been subjected to his abuse in the vast majority of his now deleted posts.

I fail to see why anyone would have an essential need to wander around a garden centre in the middle of winter. I can’t see why anyone would want to wander around a garden centre any time of year to be fair. The big problem regarding this lockdown is that people are not taking it seriously. During the first lockdown there were queues outside supermarkets because supermarkets limited the number of customers being allowed in and because other shops were not allowed to open. There's no queues now because supermarkets let more people in because they don't want them to go across the road to Aldi where the queue is smaller and also because more shops have been allowed to stay open because they are selling 'essential items. During the first lockdown people made a conscious effort to social distance themselves, now they don't. Regarding the daily briefings. There's a lot of questions that should be being asked by the reporters during the briefings but I can guarantee that tonight's briefing will not be focussed on anything other than how far Boris rode his bike. Before Ian or Mancot jump in, I know Boris and his bike highlights how unclear and wishy washy the government guidelines are, but you can guarantee that every reporter will ask the same question tonight, it's a waste of an opportunity to ask relevant, poignant questions when every question is basically the same. Why not ask Chris Whittey or the other medical experts some questions about vaccines, R rates, the South African variance, etc... I'm sure these would be more useful and enforce how serious the situation is for those who don't realise it already. I'm sure it would be more useful than listening to Matt Hancock trying to bullshit for half an hour about the fact that Boris had a puncture repair kit with him so it wasn't a problem.

I’m only going to jump in to highlight the fact it proves the sycophantic nature of the vast majority of the press in this country - even the BBC have gone tabloid red top propoganda when it comes to the staunch defence of the regime (the photoshopping of a “Russian” hat and a background of the Kremlin behind a picture of Corbyn versus a cartoon depicting Sunak as Superman - North Korea would be so proud). We desperately need a press that challenges the government and asks the right pertinent questions of them, as you point out.

Anyway, I am working in the hospital with the highest cases in the region, with specialties and services being cancelled left right and centre to free up staff to cover elsewhere to deal with the worsening situation on the wards, very stressful for those that have no experience in the specialty they are being relocated to and sometimes there is no time to train up.
Hearing that Hoole and town were “packed” over the weekend is seriously depressing considering the period between congregation of people and hospital treatment has always generally followed the pattern of two/three weeks. I know nationally from doctors on social media and TV appearances that some inpatients being treated now only visited family on Christmas Day and have done nothing else.
It’s going to get even worse, as the CMO Chris Whitty said over the weekend.
Of course, ten years of ideological chronic underfunding and cutting of health and social care services has contributed to the lack of preparedness to deal with this.

I think a couple have gone but most of the debate earlier was in the Brexit thread so there wasn’t much. I doubt if anything earth shattering was deleted, after all it’s only the off topic section of a non league forum 😉

Scotland to tighten restrictions from Saturday with click and collect only available for essential items. What is essential is listed on The Scotsman as clothes and footwear, baby equipment, homeware and books. People should also have staggered collection times to alleviate queues and cannot enter stores. Full article www.scotsman.com/news/politics/coronavirus-scotland-takeaway-and-click-and-collect-services-hit-new-restrictions-3094668How long before similar is announced for the rest of the UK do we think? Restrictions in Wales and Scotland have been similar throughout so I'd expect Wales to follow suit. Northern Ireland have already stopped click and collect.
