I might have made some savings by not being able to go out as much but I spend a shit load more on boozing at home so that's probably equalled out about the same 🍺 Working from home has been great for physical health....I go for a run most lunchtimes these days. Don’t know about anyone else but I’ve been to the pub a couple of times since they’ve reopened and I’ve realized that I’ve not missed it that much, although maybe it’s because it’s bloody cold sat in a beer garden when the suns gone down. I've only had a couple of pints outside at pubs so far but can't say I've massively enjoyed it. Its not that often you can sit out in Britain and enjoy a beer. I've had a couple of Heinekans on my sofa tonight watching the Champions League, which is preferable to paying £4 a pint freezing my gonads off trying to convince myself I'm loving it.

I think it might be a bit different when you can drink inside the pub and when something like the Euros is on the big screen, but at the minute, like you say, a few cans in front of Sky Sports is definitely preferable to sitting in a beer garden with four layers of clothing on.

How come people use the word “corruption” when referring the foreign states but “cronyism” here? What’s the difference in the act, really?

So a woman talking to a journalist tells him some woman had told her she had to eat dog food to survive and thats the gospel truth is it. It is strange when you think a tin of Tesco beans is 30p and a tin of Tesco dog food is 41p

It is strange when you think a tin of Tesco beans is 30p and a tin of Tesco dog food is 41p Are you implying she ate dog food out of choice? What if you've got nothing but dog food in the cupboard and now don't have 30p? What if you're self-isolating and can't get to the shops? You show a lack of understanding and sympathy for the very real situations some people are in.

Just a thought if she is self isolating and can't get to the shops how did she get the dog food Maybe she got it before she was self-isolating? I don't know her situation, all I'm saying is that there are multiple reasons why someone might find themselves in that situation and I think it's arrogant to dismiss it as untrue. The anecdote comes from the director of a support group, so it's not just someone whining to a newspaper. Go to food banks and listen to the stories people have. This isn't even the worst I've heard.

Has upsidedown committed hari kari or have the Mods done the decent thing and put him out of our misery? It seems he has deleted his own profile, i have deleted a couple of his posts as it uses names and areas where they live along with comments which could be construed as defamatory at best, libelous at worst.

Don’t worry, I’m a big boy and can take his accusations. Big Si won’t be hearing from my solicitor any time soon.

Bit of a shame that, but typical of the Tory mindset, where they cannot defend the indefensible, so instead attack the individual. Play the politics, not the man.

Feel like You’ll all agree I’m somewhat of a master debater (or something that sounds like that 🙃).

He messaged me asked me to delete his account due to all the back and forth with FOP etc. Sadly he also said that because of all this he won't be contributing the Boost the Budget and it's affected his support of the club. TBH, when he mentioned about withdrawing his support of the club I didn't even bother replying to him as it's full on toys out of the pram and I haven't got the time to give him the attention. It did get a little heated last night but he was pulled up on things he actually said so I'm not subscribing to the fact he was being picked on - if he's said something on here then it's there in black and white for all to see, so own it and debate it. I hope he comes back so this isn't just the FOP and Ian echo chamber, but I can't see it happening.

I kinda feel sorry for him and it makes you wonder why he kept posting in the Off-Topic section if he is psychologically ill-equipped to deal with rational debate. At the end of the day it’s just a message board, not real life and anything that is said on here shouldn’t impact on your real life. Hope he has a break away from here, reflects on what has happened and continues to support the Club. I’d like to see him posting again some time as I have no enmity towards him.

Would concur with this I don't know him personally but I believe he is getting on a bit I hope he isnt having some form of breakdown, all this lockdown business whilst needed to control the virus can have negative pyschological eefects

In their opinion everyone was financially better off and so by extension, these issues don’t matter. Apparently to even consider this you must be either drunk or sniffing glue.

Some people may well have been better off financially but as you say the mental issues around furlough, working from home, isolating or just not being able to go out and see friends can have a terrible affect on peoples mental state. I know it has been difficult for me at times being retired and confined to barracks with the missus life has been a bit up and down to say the least (no pun intended)

At the risk of sounding patronising, I think perhaps we should try (myself included) to be a little more easy going and patient towards senior forum users. If you're in your 20s or 30s, you've probably grown up having argument online. If you're in your 60s or 70s, the experience may be a bit confusing or upsetting. Just something to think about, maybe.
