45,000 deaths could have been prevented if these Tory bastards had locked down just a week earlier. 45,000 nans, grandads, mums, dads, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters. What will it take to get people angry? It turns out that the night before you posted this, 100 people were invited to "bring their own booze" to No. 10, 30 of them turned up and the PM won't confirm whether he was one of them. People are rightly angry that they were constantly ignoring the rules the rest of us were trying to live by, but that's not really even the real reason we should be angry. How much traveling and meeting constituents did these people do, and how much did they spread the virus at a time when we didn't even have an accessible way of testing for it, let alone a vaccine? The sad thing is nothing will happen. A couple of minor names will probably resign whilst the rest of them carry on taking the piss out of us all.

We're too passive. Makes me in awe of the French to be honest who don't take any of this shit.

So Boris has apologised for attending a party at Downing Street then. But has he?
What he has actually apologised for is for not realising that the party, that his Private Secretary e-mailed 100 people about attending, was actually a party. He also apologised for not insisting that everyone went back inside rather than sit in the garden drinking.
So in actual fact, although he did mention the word apology during his speech, he hasn't apologised for attending a party at all because he still doesn't accept that he actually attended a party, and besides which he was only there for 25 minutes so even if it was a party it didn't count anyway.
Surely a vote of no confidence from his party is on the way. Looking forward to seeing him doing bush tucker trials at the end of the year.

I just fear that if your position was never tenable in the first place, there's not a lot you can do to make it worse. A bit like Blatter when he was president of Fifa. From the point of view of someone who wants a change of government and not just PM, I hope he ends up replaced by someone who is incompetent and has no charisma, like Chris Grayling.

I will await the await the usual bile of being called a fascist and being Tory scum

No insults from me, but the point I'm making is nobody should be surprised by his behaviour as it's always been well known that he's like this. People who voted for him should've known better.

I agree no insults from you just debate Credible is a better description he has always been somewhat of a character even from his days as Mayor of London but why people who voted should have known better is a bit of a sweeping statement when at the time of the election I for one did not prefer the alternatives on offer

So you decided to vote for a fascist government then? As opposed to… not voting. Maybe he voted for the Tory candidate who represented his constituency rather than voting for the party itself. In the same way that some people voted for Welsh Labour even though they didn't like the Labour Party leadership of Kier Starmer.

I see Professor Van-Tam is to step down from his government role as of March. I have a feeling he may be a little more outspoken once he's free of the party line of the "Boris bulletins" etc.

You could see the fear in Boris's face sometimes when they were replying to media questions during the briefings.

Yes, I like the pair of them and there have been moments where they were clearly not on the same page as Johnson, but I get the feeling they're holding back on their true feelings - Van-Tam in particular.

What's notable is it seems like the media have got loads of dirt on the government and are drip-feeding it out for maximum effect.
- Loads of stuff about the Christmas before over Christmas - A springtime party once the new year arrives and people start looking forward to warmer weather - Public sympathy for the Queen following Andrew's scandals, so out comes a story about them partying on the eve of Phillip's funeral
I'm looking forward to Valentine's Day and the forbidden orgies being exposed!

The English electorate for the last twelve years quite happily accepted the NHS being thrown away, teachers being underpaid and undervalued and millions of people being forced to use foodbanks due to shit wages and cuts to welfare.
They still voted Tory despite the fact they spent the last twelve years taking money away from disabled people, pensions away from the WASPI women in the guise of a credit crunch that was brought on by the very bankers who have only become ever more richer.
They’re quite happy to accept 150,000+ deaths, one of the worst records in the entire world during this pandemic.
But all of a sudden these same voters are now angry because of a few “work” parties they weren’t invited to. They deserve this bastard government and they would vote the same again if a bloke who wanted to end homelessness, improve wages and re-nationalise the extortionate railways was an option.

They're unhappy for the wrong reasons as well. Let's remember why these rules were there in the first place. It shouldn't be "they partied when I couldn't", it should be "they spread the virus", and they surely will have done, and this in one of the hardest-hit countries by COVID thanks to their own mismanagement of it. It sums up a way a lot of people see the world. Just "me, me, me" all the time. They can't see past the end of their own noses.

This has already started really hasn't it? I didn't understand why that Allegra woman had to step down for talking about a Christmas party while the people who went to it didn't. They threw her under a bus and she should be ratting on them. Another thing I don't understand is why the Met Police are refusing to investigate the May 20th, 2020 incident until this poxy report comes out. Doesn't that go against the whole way the police are supposed to operate? If there was suspected crime in your workplace would the police let you do an HR review of it before they got involved?

It actually happens quite often tbf, not necessarily COVID breaches but certainly for theft from employer etc etc. After all, the company or organisation is best placed to investigate.

I know i shouldn't engage with this hysterical post but f**k it,why not. 2010 was a really interesting election, lost by Gordon Brown more than anything, in my opinion. The Labour government remained popular, their track record since 1997 being largely successful but clearly hampered by the war and of course financial crash. Clegg and Cameron were attractive prospects for both their parties and following the result i can see why Clegg thought the best option was to enter into coalition with the party who had just swung 90-odd seats. It's often forgotten that actually the Coalition government saw Lib Dem policies such as raising tax allowances enacted (and now claimed by Tory party as their successes) all whilst being hysterical over University fees. 2015 the big story was Clegg being punished and Labour picking the wrong Miliband but people again forget that this is the year SNP won 56 seats from the 6 they had previously. This absolutely annihilated Labour in Scotland. Clegg lost 49 seats but only 20-odd went blue. As we know what happened thereafter is Brexit chaos.

Dr Chaand Nagpaul, chair of The BMA: “This decision clearly is not guided by the data. When Plan B was introduced in December, there were 7,373 patients in hospital in the UK - the latest data this week shows there are 18,979. Case rates too are nearly twice as many."
I’m not an epidemiologist but announcing the end of all mitigating factors for a disease that killed 438 people the previous day is another act in a long list of criminal negligence that will condemn tens of thousands of people to death or chronic illness. At a time when the NHS is already under huge pressure.
Of course, the act of compounding pressure on the service is a deliberate one for ideological reasons.

Post by Si on Jan 20, 2022 9:21:43 GMT
Whether the science backs it up or not, the issue is that in my experience since Plan B came into place is that there hasn't been a great deal of compliance in following the rules. That could be down to people being weary of it and would rather get on with living their lives as they want, or possibly defiance at the government for not following the rules themselves. Either way, I'd question the point in having restrictions if many don't follow them. A popularity stunt it may be as part of Operation Big Dog or whatever shit it's called, but it's back to continuing to make your own personal choices on what you feel is safe and appropriate.
