Billy Nomates took me by surprise a bit - my first exposure to her was actually her feature on the Mods’ previous album a couple of years ago but this was the first full-length album of hers I’d heard. Its unusual sound encompassing multiple different genres probably won’t be to everyone’s tastes but I found it a really fun listen; the title track is probably my favourite song of the year so far.

With only one major Rock release so far this year from Iggy Pop, here are 15 more anticipated releases due imminently or in the pipeline later this year from these bands and artists: Metallica, Rival Sons, Airbourne, Greta Van Fleet, Ian Hunter, The Answer, Uriah Heep, QOTSA, Judas Priest, Pearl Jam, Within Temptation, Jethro Tull, Alice Cooper & Europe. I am sure the prolific Neil Young can rattle another album out.
Should be a good year ahead 👌

If anyone’s looking for something to listen to on the way up to Fylde, The Murder Capital’s new album ‘Gigi’s Recovery’ ought to appeal to some of your tastes. One of the best post-punk albums I’ve heard in ages, stylistically it’s fairly similar to the more recent efforts from their compatriots Fontaines DC.

Somewhat belated list of my favourite albums from January:
1. Fucked Up - One Day (‘hardcore punk’ I suppose - interesting punk/black metal fusion) 2. Complete Mountain Almanac - Complete Mountain Almanac (indie/chamber folk) 3. The Murder Capital - Gigi’s Recovery (post-punk) 4. Gaz Coombes - Turn The Car Around (smooth pop/rock) 5. James Yorkston, Nina Persson and The Second Hand Orchestra - The Great White Sea Eagle (traditional folk) 6. Ahab - The Coral Tombs (doom metal) 7. Billy Nomates - CACTI (indie pop) 8. Ryuichi Sakamoto - 12 (ambient/classical) 9. Biig Piig - Bubblegum (chilled electropop) 10. Núria Graham - Cyclamen (indie folk)
Pretty big variety of genres and styles, not sure how many if any would appeal to you good folks but putting it out there in case they do.

I've struggled to get into the Murder Capital even though they seem like something I should like. I'll check out the new album though. I'm seeing Shame next week which is my first gig in ages. Not sure the new album is quite up there with the first two on first listening, but it may be a grower.

Random piece of music trivia on TOTP 1994 last night - Oasis and Ant & Dec (or PJ & Duncan as they were known at the time) both had their first UK chart hit on the same week.

Mae Muller unveiled this week as our Eurovision entry - was hoping to get tickets as its in the Liverpool Arena but they all sold out for the entire week's performances - rehearsals, matinees, semis, final etc within 36 minutes.
The absolute most expensive ticket was £380 for the grand final (presumably front and centre, as the starting price was £80 to sit up in the Gods) - some are now going for over 10 grand from various private sellers.
We'll now be doing a party at home and getting the kids involved.

I saw Suede in Southampton a couple of weeks ago, not got much booked this year compared to most. I'm going to Blue Dot in July, last year I went to four festivals. I saw a Chester fan in his Blue & White shirt doing official photography at Boomtown last year. Anyone else doing any festivals this year?

Retrospectively I think Suede were/are the best Britpop band. Some of Oasis and Blur's stuff sounds dated now but Dog Man Star and the self-titled album still sound great. Plus they're still releasing good stuff now.

A northern soul boy (still) myself so probably won't have many people to discuss music with on here.
However I was recently sorting all my vinyl out and came across an album of Mrs. Welsh rovers called Saturday Morning Pictures by a band called Stray.
Would be early 70's and a damm good listen. Not sure exactly what genre you would put it in (could be rock I suppose).
As I say not my normal listen but thoroughly enjoyable.

Their 3rd album Saturday Morning Pictures is indeed a great album. The band certainly had a firm foot in the 70's blues rock genre although their first 2 albums lean more towards psychedelic rock. A very underrated hard rock band 🎸

Debut album by Benefits out today. Some of the most brutal and cathartic music/poetry you'll hear about the state of Britain. Love it!

What's your go to album when you're feeling down like today? Personally David Bowie's Black Star is absolute quality when I want a bit of a wallow.
