The financial impact of today’s pitiful embarrassing result is huge considering not just the lost prize money but the potential for the next round when you look at those big name clubs in League One with big followings and also potential TV income. This year of all years, with the pandemic impact and the so-called “bailout” farce. Doesn’t bear thinking about. Depressing. I have to totally agree with you which is a first , Youngy got it tactically bang on , ours did not

Happy to see an apology rather than bemoaning officiating. As disappointing as today is then I take the apology and trust we get the reaction on Tuesday.

Think it’s aimed at the players, but I’d still say the tactics played a big part in that today.

That is the first time I have seen Chester this season. on that performance we will be lucky to get mid table, nothing up front and very little energy. Don’t bother watching again then 👏🏻

Young set up pretty much as expected today. Not tactical masterclass stuff. Just basic smaller team plays bigger team stuff. It was us that got it wrong, and played poorly. If you'd asked NY how he wanted us to play, it would have been exactly how we did. That says a lot.
Our managers made their name by having an aggressive in your face type of team. Exactly the type of team that creates cup upsets. However, I believe they are trying to prove they can create, and be successful, as footballing managers. We have a team of footballers. They've not yet found a balance. Every time we play a non footballing team away from home, we lose. These teams play to a formula. Keep it simple, but aggressive and direct. You'd have thought our managers would know how to play against that. That's how they made their name. We also struggle at home against these kind of teams. Leamington, anyone? They keep saying "you know what our teams are all about". I'd argue that's what they used to be about. Now it's a more sexy football style. We're not in their face, it's more pass and move. Better to watch, but is it more effective?
Everything was slow tempo moving the ball without committing anyone. Elliot has pace and talent, but hasn't yet the guile to find space in a crowded area. Jackson on the left plays narrower, so the game isn't stretched. Johnston's problem is, he moves Jackson to the left. His best position appears to be the same as our best player. Imo he wasn't strengthening the starting eleven. Daft thing is, if we'd played Livesey up front we'd have won that today. That tells you something.
The really annoying thing about today, apart from the poor performance, tactics and slow tempo, was the loss of money. We raised £120k for this team over the summer. We've got players playing for nothing, presumably hoping for a contract from the cup money. That now won't happen. We've literally thrown away money. Same as we did last season. Not sure how many times fans will put money in, if we throw it away like this. I've put in for 2 season tickets, lump sums in the summer and playoffs. Also monthly ongoing payments.
I actually like Bern and Jonno but they've been in charge for Blyth, Dunston, Royston and Marine. That maybe four of our five worst ever results. The other being Penrith. Not great in only 3 years out of last 50.

It never fails to amuse me how much smoke gets blown up the arse of the managers from a proportion of our fans. In terms of most embarrassing results in the history of Chester City/Chester FC. I'd say about four of the top ten have come under their watch (Stockport, Blyth, Dunston, Marine). They've failed to get us out of this league and given us nothing in terms of a cup run. But according to some they are the best thing to happen to the club since reformation! Give me strength! Neil Young did a proper job on them today. Best of luck to him and Marine in the next round.

Add to that frustrate your opponents as much as possible and things will get disjointed and fall apart, you only have to add all that up and you know you will have been watching todays game. Our gaffers got it wrong today end off instead of trying to be clever it should have been kept simple and in your face direct football, NY got it right today he made sure his players closed down fancy passes defended well and frustrated the game. He came with a plan and executed it well and got the result all credit to him.

As poor as a result today was the talk of Youngie being a managerial master makes me laugh. Since leaving us he’s been a laughing stock at Stockport and Altrincham and got Marine relegated for the first time in their history. He is a living Chester legend but what he did today was down to our lack of quality more than anything else

As for experience at other clubs, I really couldn't care less. I'm only interested in how a manager performs at Chester and his achievements here have yet to be surpassed. In fact, this club has only gone in one direction since his departure. Downhill!

You can debate tactics all day (I didn’t like them and felt the managers got it wrong) but quality on the ball was seriously lacking. The amount of misplaced passes especially in the final third was ridiculous. I nearly smashed my tele in the second half when Waring had the simple task of putting Jackson through but instead overhit it straight out of play.
I hate the phrase ‘trying too hard’ but it does feel like that’s what’s going on with Johnston. Maybe ‘overthinking’ everything is a better way to describe what’s happening. He’s clearly talented, but it’s just not quite happening at the moment. I always feel he takes one more touch than necessary. His game isn't coming naturally to him, to me at least it feels like he gets the ball and then a million things race through his mind. Needs a confidence boost.
As others have mentioned, it was a game where you felt if Livesey had been up front all game and we’d hoofed it up to him for 90 minutes then we’d have won. We beat ourselves rather than Marine stopping us IMO. Let’s not kid ourselves, Marine absolutely deserved to win, but they were extremely limited and were there for the taking.

Tactically pathetic today. How many times now have we been humiliated with these two in charge? We got out of jail against Worksop too. I've watched us for 50+ years, and prior to B&J's arrival the only truly humiliating result I can recall was Penrith (maybe Northwich Vics too at a stretch). How many times have we been humiliated with these 2 in charge - is that the third? And we scraped through previously against Woking too, FFS. We must have p****d away the thick end of £50k in FA Cup moneys with this pair in charge. Behave you div none youse have a bad word to say when we win because we never win you rat, people like you are why chester will remain tinpot forever. The majority of us are outraged at this

I wouldn't say they are under serious threat yet but they need to take a long hard look. They better well do. People are getting tired of repeat embarrassments Let’s be honest a handful of people may not like them but as football managers they are in two of the most safest positions in lower league/non league football. That warning you’ve shot barely leaves the barrel.
