Still trying to make sense of what I witnessed today. Looked like a carbon copy of Maidstone. I actually came away feeling sorry for the players because they didn't seem to know what they were meant to be doing. We started off playing three at the back but that was ripped up after we went 2-0 down in no time. Thought I was watching a pre season friendly, with Sutton scoring when they felt like it. I can't really be bothered trying to analyse the rest of the game - we were truly awful. The two late goals put a gloss on it but shouldn't mask what was a terrible display. Regretably, I do think the manager's position is untenable. Not just the dreadful run since Christmas but his interviews in which he appears to be in some sort of denial. The big question is what can be done....the long contract has left us in a mess unless some sort of agreement can be reached. For sure we need to get a new assistant in. Not sure how you sell season tickets or try to market the club on the back of the form since Christmas. I've seen two of the wins, at Bromley and Torquay, and were were poor in both. I do believe we have some decent players but they've lost their way and you could see at the end that they were bewildered. Jon is a decent guy and I wish it had worked out but I just don't see any way forwards now with him. I believe he has lost the confidence of the majority of the fans, not just the planks on here who start a new thread every time they want to sound off. I don't think many clubs would tolerate the sort of run we have endured at home. It's amazing the crowds have held up at all. Final word, fair play to George, Shaw and Durrell for coming over to the fans at the end to shake hand. That took balls. Who on earth were they shaking hands with? If I'd travelled all that way and spent all that money then the last thing I would want is a handshake off George straight after a 2-5 stonking in a crucial game. Where were their bollocks during the game? I dunno, I do kind of respect that, that players at least try to acknowledge the efforts of the fans. I would shake hands with players, albeit maybe having a word in their ears as well! It's perhaps unfashionable in football circles but I think you should try and see your team like a bunch of good mates. They might piss you off at times but I think they hurt in the same way as you do when they lose. If some fans want to shake hands or be a shoulder to cry on, I'm not going to have a go at that.

The problem with applauding is that you feel compelled to applaud back as a fan, and what the hell are you applauding after a 5-2 defeat? A handshake is a bit more of a personal acknowledgement. Kind of gentlemanly. I get that not all fans will like it but I'd go along with it.

I did suggest to Durrell that they try and keep the score down to five next week. Did McCarthy come over to you all? I was trudging out at the other end as had a train to catch but noticed Durrell in particular looking sombre heading over to you all.

No. The other players kept their distance which was why I mentioned the three who came up to the barriers. Didn't notice the manager at all but there was some suggestion he got an earful at half time from some Blues behind the dugout, so not surprised he beat a hasty retreat at the end.

Noticed he was shaking all the Sutton players hands but wasn't sure if he made it up to the other end. Fair play to Durrell, one of our fans (harshly imo) gave him a real ear bashing in the first half at the barrier and his head seemed to drop.

Strange game really, I didn’t think there was all that much between the two sides on the balance of play but Sutton were a few goals up early, comfortable and it didn’t really ever even feel like a competitive football match. I suppose it shows just how low our standards are these days.
To be fair to Sutton, four of their goals were long range stunners, you have to give them some credit. The first was certainly avoidable, and the fourth was damn right terrible defending on our part mind you. I can forgive a lack of ability but not such disorganisation, that’s well and truly in your own hands and I believe it’s what most clubs at this level are built on. We had a midfielder at right back, a right back at left back, and a central midfielder on the left wing again today, same old problems. Taking Hughes off for Joyce took the piss a bit, ironically we looked a bit better after that even if Sutton took their foot off the gas. Hughes didn’t look happy about it either, looked angry and was banging his fist against the Perspex dugout.
Alabi cut a frustrated figure up front but credit to him for battling through his frustration to pull two goals back, they could prove valuable come next week. Durrell worked hard and it could have been worse but not for Lynch pulling off a few saves.
It was a difficult game to stand through, felt really embarrassed but that is pretty much the norm for us now. Trudged out in an unsegregated crowd amongst the Sutton lot who could spot me a mile off being the unhapppy one amongst the crowd. What annoys me is this insistence from McCarthy that the players have reached their target and it pretty much doesn’t matter what we do for like five months or so. Absolute bollocks, we are a fan owned club who rely on our fans to come through the turnstiles, people won’t come if we are playing shite and losing every week. We are unique and have moving targets, time doesn’t stand still for us, what might have been the target at the start of the season is not the target now. We’re not a moneybags outfit where it doesn’t matter who comes along.

Good to hear the fans getting on Mcarthys back. Hopefully more of the same next Saturday. It's the only reason that I will be attending, "McCarthy OUT" chants for 90 mins might make the board see sense and put that dog down!

Trouble is pal, there are enough Happy Clappers sat around that won't have that. I can think of several that sit near me who won't have a bad word said about good old Jon, after he's shaken their hand pre-game. A lot will depend on how the game pans out. If it follows the 2017 pattern, the atmosphere could become toxic, however if remarkably they don't fall behind, he might get away with it. The general apathy that stinks the football club out will appear at this point, and his after match press conference will be littered to references of how hard he is going to work over the summer to get it right next year. Another 300-400 fans will walk away at this point, never to be seen again.

What annoys me is this insistence from McCarthy that the players have reached their target and it pretty much doesn’t matter what we do for like five months or so. Indeed. He seems oblivious to the fact that the bulk of that target was reached when he had Sharps carrying him. He also won't ever account for what's gone wrong since then.

A waste of a day a waste of 150 quid but its ok we reached 52 points is the man having a laff we made sutton look like real madrid in that first half was as bad as anything ive seen in the last 30 years of supporting chester and that takes some doing.

As much as i love the club, the decline of the club is disheartening. 400 less Chester fans from day 1 this season now that clearly Is a strong statement from them fans who haven't attended ?. I think it's fair to say another 1-200 will turn their back after this season too. So where would that leave us 1.300 Chester fans ?. That's terrible. I feel next season is absolutely make or brake for the club in the way it's currently run. The paid employers of the club the CEO and accountant need to show proof of what they have achieved or be replaced asap. £18 is a lot of money,(yes most clubs similar but not the point). most of us pay it as we love football and CFC but it's at the top end of prices in affordability imho, so once we loose a couple of games poorly, go through a terrible rut £18 becomes too great an amount to chuck down the drain so people don't bother. From day one this season apathy was completely everywhere hence lack of home fans as people couldn't justify £18 or £15 standing to watch average/below average football especially some of them garbage performances after Christmas . The club need to come up with ways for the experience of coming the ground and watching football enjoyable again so when result is bad at least there's other positives. Get some h/t entertainment or something, because it's just stinks of apathy and people are giving up on CFC. And attendances will further decrease putting the whole of CFC future in doubt

BT Sport highlights, click play and our game will start. Being more positive than I should be, Alabi's two were nicely taken. It's also hard to be too critical about most of the goals, although you could say we're giving them too many opportunities to shoot. The fourth is very poor. Astles seems to be trying to mark two men at once, which means somebody's lost theirs. Shouldn't happen within minutes of the half starting.

Agree that you don't really expect three 20 yard strikes to ping in at this level, but then again I've often thought (particularly at home) that we defend too deep and afford far too much space on the edge of the area. It's like we're willing to defend crosses but we'll take our chance that long distance strikes won't go in, and occasionally you'll get games like last weekend where it all goes against you. The Tranmere game was a prime example of defending the penalty area but the midfield were simply defending the space rather than putting in challenges which therefore gave numerous opportunities to tempt Tranmere into a long range pop and then Cook goes and pings one in late on. We simply don't win enough second balls or put in enough challenges on the edge of the area.

They would listen to his match planning and subsequent gobbledygook after match interviews, which would then make them so convulsed with laughter that they wouldnt want anything to do with western society, let alone bomb them.
