Worth remembering it’s only a 6 month deal for LMH. Could be out by Christmas. Very much last chance saloon and if Calum can’t get him firing for us then I don’t think anyone can. Personally I see more potential in Clarke too.
I don’t believe our business up top is done just yet.

Personally I see more potential in Clarke too. I don’t believe our business up top is done just yet. Let's hope you're right. The key signings could be the ones yet to come. Any full time player will be under contract until 30th June. The keeper is the same as ended last season, but an improvement on the season start. Defence is currently weaker, as Livesey has gone. Defensive midfield has yet to be signed. Start of last season we hadn't much either. Attacking midfield is slightly better, but very similar to start of last season. Strikers are probably weaker, as most are unproven at this level. The last few signings could be the glue that holds it all together, and provides that strength and experience we probably need. If they're just squad players it's difficult to see a strong play off push.

Need to replace Livesey and Sargeant, other than that it’s just topping up and filling out the squad.
Don’t get the negativity around Clarke, he’s serving his apprenticeship in a way with that lower league loan spell or two last season and seems a more mobile version of Waring. Would love LMH to do it - he’s shown flashes but we’re getting on for three years ago now, this is his “now or never” season coming up.

Smaller squad, higher quality for me every time. It's a false economy panic buying seemingly cheap players. Every time I hear that term squad player I start thinking of McCarthy signing the likes of Warren Joyce and Liam Davies, then I have to go and lie down. Latterly Luke Clark in the same bracket. They sit on the bench, then when they get a game everyone realises they're crap but we can't get rid because they're crap. I actually think Calum is better than that. He's a bright guy who has hopefully been around the club long enough to see where mistakes have been made. He's making the right noises at least about holding his nerve rather than diving in and signing for the sake of signing.

Don't think it's particularly negatively Frank, just that he's unproven so with LMH as you say in his now or never 6 months it leaves us with Dudley and the new lad, who both have things to prove this season. Hopefully Clarke can kick on, LMH takes his opportunities and we see a fitter, hungrier Dudley. A lot of If's though there for me starting a new season.

For me, your squad players should be young lads who have everything to prove and will come on and give it their all when asked of them, or seasoned pro's on their way down who maybe down have the legs for it every week but still have the desire and give you that character and experience in the dressing room. Kevin Roberts for example - I wouldn't be comfortable with him being our first choice right back as I think his legs are failing him in that position these days but he can do a job there when needed, play 2 other positions comfortably, and has the right attitude to be an example for younger players. Lads who are 26/27 being squad players.....what's the point.

Sam Austin and Geraldo Bejrami both left Kidderminster to join Notts County. Fees paid in both cases. Omari Sterling also leaving, but doesn't appear to have signed for anyone yet.

Perhaps it could go 50/50…but on these boards we always look on the pessimistic view of private owned clubs…I think we said this about Stockport County in the past, but at the moment the fans are loving it….and that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day…

Macclesfield will do exactly what we did. They'll blast their way through the leagues, spending money on players that should be playing two leagues higher with attendances 5 to 10 times higher than any other club in the division. Then they'll reach the National League and realize than they're no longer the big fish in a small pond. Attendances will drop off and they'll sit mid table until their backers lose interest and they get relegated back to the NLN.

They are getting crowds way above their historical average, playing teams like Congleton. Once they go back to being like 'Shit Macc Town' again it will all come back down with a bump.

What Macc have done really well though is invest in additional areas that creates external revenue such as the 4g pitch, new modern bar and the gym facilities.
Looking back our biggest regret was ploughing a lot of the gate receipts back in the playing budget and not putting any aside for ground improvements. It looks like we are improving that now though

Well if it does…they’ve still got all the paper work to do it all again..…but in the mean time they are enjoying the ride like we did at the time.. without the investment of Smethurst they would be dead and buried…everything seems put in place to make the club grow…and the international academy set up with the Uni looks an exciting prospect as well…will be interesting to see how they progress over the next few years..

'Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga has joined Macclesfield FC on a season-long loan deal. The Brazilian 19-year-old established himself in the Reds’ U23s side in 2021-22 and was named on the first-team bench four times throughout last season. An October 2020 arrival from Fluminense in his homeland, Pitaluga trains with Jürgen Klopp’s squad and will now seek to gain more senior experience with Macclesfield'.
