To be fair I will have time for the original suggestion at the top of the thread … As soon as someone shows me the multi millionaire willing to invest in a way that is free of loans, provides a sustainable financial model, retains fan influence on the board, brings no ego or ulterior motive and provides assurance that going bust won’t rapidly follow their departure.. Of course fans enjoy the boom times, ours did for a while under SV. But the harsh, harsh reality is that Fleetwood, Salford and Wrexham will have their day, just as Rushden, Grays, Telford United and indeed Chester City did when the giddiness made the light too bright for the unsustainable situation to be seen. The bit in bold is always going to be a stumbling block if someone want's to finance the club. Regarding being unsustainable. I would suggest we are unsustainable at the level we are at now! The club year on year keeps asking people to boost the budget, gets the begging bowl out to the same couple of hundred people who give generously. This suggests we are punching above our weight because without the extra 100K we keep putting in what sort of team would we be putting onto the pitch? I hope for gods sake that this is just a blip and the team will show some serious improvement, because if this is what we are getting even with the extra 100K we are royally f**ked!!

Curzon didn’t surprise me being a nice midweek evening and may of expected nearer 1800-1900 v Gateshead but it was a sunny bank holiday? They’ll likely be 1500-1600 in Saturday but a win will change it for the next home. Amazing how quiet this forum was until we start losing

Our crowd isn’t really “decreasing” though is it? Certainly not at as an alarming rate as a lot of people are making out. We’ve had two games, crowds about what was expected for us realists.

Absolutely no trend this season that our attendances have much worsened.

I’ve not been to a game as of yet this season due to work so cannot comment on the performances but I am aware of how we have played via friends and social media. This is a complete over reaction, We need to knuckle down these next few games and back the management in place, you cannot go sacking people after less than 10 games in after no footy in how long it’s just not good practice. As for the end of fan ownership of course I want to see the back of it. As I’ve stated numerous times we are at our ceiling and the best we can hope for is the odd decent season in the NL. I’ve always said that what people do for this club free of charge out of the goodness of their hearts is unquestionable. I’ve just always felt that it’s got a labour club feel to it, now nothing against the labour club in the slightest I just want a professional run club from top to bottom with people making decisions without the emotional attachment we as fans have. Yes I am aware no buyer is out there currently but to achieve our hopes and aspirations it’s the only way we will ever get that. I do truly respect the guys who have loyalty to the model and it’s not a full on blitzkreig attack. I just don’t see a future that’s going to excite the local community and drive attendances. It’s slowly going to ware people down to my way of thinking of that I can absolutely guarantee. It’s just about finding that right owner to give us the hope, which again is a tough ask as people don’t want to experience another reform but let’s be open and Frank no club has gone twice and most football clubs are privately owned it’s just the nature of the beast. Using Hearts as an example is just plain weird it literally has zero relevance to us. Fans will slowly walk from us on such a continued trajectory and I cannot help feel that people would actually rather cut their own noses for the sake of power at the club.

I thought 1,800 for the Curzon game and wasn't far off, to be fair I thought there was close to 2,000 there. The Gateshead game, bank holiday, decent weather and last chance for a break before the kids go back, but even so I was slightly shocked with 1,300 or so home fans. What are we expecting Saturday do you think?

I'd hope for more than the Gateshead game, minimum of 1,500, would be disturbing if your 1,300 proves correct.

Out of a bit of boredom I've put the 'sunny bank holiday' theory to test. Average Attendance by month since we reformed (Saturday league games only) DOES have August lowest of all months. Next is December and then September. The rest are pretty much the same other than April which is a long way out on it's own at the top due to it being crunch time in the season (lifting trophies three times). Maybe the theory has legs. Saturday was the lowest afternoon league crowd since we reformed though, by 29.
Right, off to find my coat.

I agree with most of this. The strategy should be based on developing our own academy players and signing players on under the age of 24 with sell on value and have a constant conveyor belt of them coming through. But the biggest hurdle for that is the fan base accepting the results that strategy could bring… If we are competative and going in the right direct, then yes.

What disappoints me is how the pride about how our board have handled this club through a pandemic has quickly eroded on the back of 4 poor results, not to mention the positivity about our players and the managers. Our board were amazing during the pandemic - communications were clear, concise and regular, and their prudence allowed us to still have a club to come back to support. There were other clubs that did not act in a great way....Fylde, Chesterfield, Boreham Wood to name three. The squad played some great football to zero crowd figures last season, and I felt proud of what they put themselves through to represent our club during the toughest of times - we've lost a couple of players but nothing too major so it doesn't make us a bad team overnight, and I feel they deserve a bit more credit than some of the stuff I've seen on social media over the last week. Yes we do look disjointed at the moment but there does appear to be credible reasoning behind that, and I always feared for us without the engine room of Glendon and Weeks on Saturday as they are crucial to the way we play. The board have done fantastic and don't deserve being dismissed for a fantasy idea that isn't even on the table - like I've always said, lets have that conversation when/if a credible offer comes in, but until then then what choice do we have than to back to current model rather than pissing and whining about something that is unlikely to happen?

We own the club, who do you think is supposed to fund it? via gate money, catering, sponsorship and using the ground to generate cash but struggling like fuck to make ends meet and expecting people to ‘dig deep’ year on year is taking the piss. It’s obvious to everyone except the really stubborn ones that we need to change our model because it’s run it’s course. Time to put feelers out because we need a lot more money than what 100% fan ownership can generate. Instead of just coming back with the old ‘’ who’s going to buy it/ nobody has shown an interest’’? Stock reply answer this…… why are people walking away in their droves? When we reformed our average crowds were 2,700 now it’s around 1,500 (and falling) how is the club going to make up the short fall if it continues?

You might not like where we end up with that, but that's just life isn't it.....you live in a house you can afford until you've got the money to buy bigger and better.

Time to put the feelers out? what does that mean? what does this entail, advert in the paper? phoning up everyone on the Sunday times rich list? Who is going to do this "putting the feelers out?" a paid member of staff? a volunteer? which mythical person has this ability to find someone willing to obviously lose money investing in a football club during the Covid crisis? It's just as empty. In answer to your question which is based off 2 home games in 16 months, people seem to like football more when the team they watch wins every game every week. The attendance is also not, nor never has been average 1,500. We need to get people to come to games by encouraging friends and neighbours, helping the atmosphere, making matchday more enjoyable, dare i say it volunteering to help rather than constantly and relentlessly moaning and attacking each other because someone else should do this and that. By building a community of fans which is actually fun, not relentlessly negative. UTS

Maybe I’m wrong so please forgive me if I am but isn’t boost the budget just a name or slogan to raise further funds for the club as opposed to it being raised solely for the playing budget?
From reading between the lines we must have lost a fortune from companies who have sponsored us in the past who have now tightened there own belts meaning that somewhere we have a shortfall of income which the btb has filled.
York City have a multi millionaire bankrolling them yet there supporters seem desperate to get him out of the club. As has been said on here before, there seems to be a bit of the green eyed monster with what’s happening on the other side of the border.

I speak to people who used to watch Chester city who have never watched the new club and never will. Maybe the reason for people wanting to get an owner to get us (maybe) into the league, because this is what they are used to watching? The new club are just yo-yo lng between non league divisions and are always going to be a non league club. Maybe this is why people don’t find it appealing?

The new club are just yo-yo lng between non league divisions and are always going to be a non league club. Maybe this is why people don’t find it appealing? So the volunteer run club need to find a buyer willing and able to provide enough investment to move up to at least the football leagues and then maybe fans will come back. Then maybe they'll come to every match when we're struggling at the bottom of league two for a couple of seasons. What happens if this mythical investor doesn't have the money to bankroll us to compete in league 2? Do we need to scrap the owner and a find a new one? Do these fans stop coming? Does the investor keep ploughing money in or do they pull out/run out of money. What happens to the club then? We all know what happens. If these fans only wan't league football then they haven't been attending regularly for 20 years. If 3 back to back promotions didn't get them down but constantly going in administration on and off for decade in the noughties whilst being an absolute shambles off the pitch got them down then they never cared about the club. Under private ownership we were mismanaged for over 30 years into this level of football (only the death of the club stopped us being relegated into the league we are in now) Change for the sake of change isn't the answer it's just the easiest solution and one the removes any sort of responsibility. Maybe find out exactly why these people aren't coming and we'll have a better idea of what the club need to do to get people back rather than guessing maybe they need to watch us play in league 2. Look at the names knocking around league 2 they're not bringing glory supporters back to the Deva on name and status alone.

I'm on the fence when it comes to their ability to take us forward but no questioning their commitment and, on the whole, their recruitment has been spot on. For reasons that are partly self inflicted, partly down to bad luck, they've been dealt a bad hand this season. No doubt we've been poor but given all that's gone on it's pretty depressing that such a toxic atmosphere has built up so quickly. Fans booing at half time on Monday and kids walking out after 60 minutes, hardly sends the right message. Aren't we all meant to be in this together? Supporting a team when they're clearly struggling is what defines a proper fan. How exactly does it help to give the players and managers abuse? I got the feeling a few went with an agenda on Monday and were only too happy to get stuck in to the team as soon as we went behind.
