I'm thinking that Hunt and Durrell may have wanted to leave and have probably had offers elsewhere. They're probably 2 of our biggest wage earners too, so a bit of a cost costing exercise? Durrell's fitness never impressed me either, never looked fit enough to last 60 let alone 90 minutes. Would have kept Hunt, one of the few who appeared to have a voice on the pitch, had a fairly consistent season too.
With Hudson going, we're back to 1 centre back too. Any more big centre backs from the Wirral available?
Evans never got any game time, will probably see him pop up at a nearby team in national league north team to earn his stripes How's it work in terms of players who were on short term contracts, does this suggest that Lynch, Dawson, Davies and Marsh have all been offered contracts?

So Jon McCarthy was joking all along about Richards and Hudson. This changes the whole landscape about renewing ST.

It is at least a sign that we're planning changes. Disappointed to see Hunt on the list, and there were one or two I was hoping to see on the list that aren't, but at least it's change. No surprises for me with the notable exception of Hunt. Sorry to see him go.

Hunt and Durrell would have liked to keep. Evans maybe.
Hudson is a squad player and could do a job for us but not as automatic first choice CB.
Other two. Correct choice.

So, Hunt and Durrell have been offered something elsewhere, which the club are buttering up as them being released. Glad to see the back of Hudson and Richards. How does McCarthy explain releasing his 'best signing'? Anyone wish to comment on what Chappel, George and Joyce have done to be offered a new deal? I do hope Hannibal was being sarcastic about season tickets. It wouldn't matter if we had the best squad in the Conference, you still need a manager that can organise and motivate.

You could read the Chronicle article as hunt, durrell and Hudson are leaving (by their choice?) whilst Richards, Evans and Killock weren't offered contracts. I think Durrell's nine goals from midfield was a tidy return so surprised he wouldn't have been offered a deal. Also Hunt seemed first choice over Horwood so perhaps surprised.
We need a combatitive and creative midfield and not one that gives the opposition so much space so personally I hope we don't take on Ryan Lloyd though wonder if he will be the announcement in next few days

See how quick a roumour about keeping Richards and Hudson got around and the manager instantly getting abuse! Get facts people make up gossip and dum as fans fall for it! Can't be many players left now I'd like Joyce to leave now!

It wouldn't surprise me if chapple retained. He's a little like mcconville in that he seems quite comfortable on the ball in the mostly away matches I've seen him in. I always thought Sean M offered a lot to the team if we had some grit in midfield to compensate. In fact we had Rooney and Mahon who are similar to SM. I for one would like to see more of that quality in the middle. Someone to put their foot on the ball. An Alex Brown type player

First rumour we are keeping the shite then it's found not true and the manager still getting the stick!!

JM may just have made the decision he needed to keep his job. I'll reserve judgement until I see who he signs before making further comments

I was talking about my personal season ticket. There was no way I was going to part with my pension to watch Richards' knees buckle every time he got the ball. The chances of me renewing just improved, but will wait and see what comes in.

Considering they never released him (he went to Cambridge Utd for a fee) I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't true.

Will await more confirmation in the days ahead. Whether George, Davies, Joyce and Marsh and possibly Chappel have been offered terms. Personally I don't think any of them are worthy of a contract. Surprised by the decision to release Hunt and don't know nothing about Kieran Evans. Massive weeks ahead for the football club, whether we can bring any enthusiasm and feel good factor back for the supporters. Going to be interesting, potentially a bumpy ride. I'm just glad of a break after witnessing the 2017 home performances!

Surely marsh, Joyce, Chappell have to be the next to be Released. What worries me is that it sounds from the article a bit like that's that. It also sounds a bit like Durrell, Hudson and Hunt were offered deals? All speculation from the way the article was written of course,

I'm very surprised that Hunt and Durrell have gone, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if they go back down the road. All the best to them. I thought we should've had a better look at Evans, but Hudson, Killock and Richards probably had to go. Good luck to the six of them for the rest of their careers.

Suppose it shows McCarthy will back you in the press to the end, but privately he's quite brutal.
Crappell is surprising but I think macca likes him. The captain wanktastic, well we all knew he'd stay. Can't argue evans going given went on loan to NWC league. He obviously feels he can get better value than Hudson and Furrell and killock I wish all the best to, he needs some luck.

Amazed that Durrell is going and Joyce staying if that's the case also don't think Horwood offers much. He's a rubbish left back, OK at wing back but not going to improve.

I cannot believe that Jordan Chappell and Luke George have been retained. Surely that is a wind up? I'm struggling to remember one positive contribution from either of them in 2 seasons. I really hope there's a few more to follow, not convinced Davies is up to it either. Joyce is clearly McCarthy's project so I'm not surprised he's been retained and I'm not that offended by it either. He's average, but if his wage is low and he's a body on the bench then so be it. Luke George is the real headscratcher on this list.
I quite like Durrell, he's an enjoyable footballer to watch but I do agree he's a luxury on our budget. He's not a winger and he's not a central midfielder, you have to accommodate him and I don't think we can. Hunt has been good this season, can only assume he notified JM of his decision to leave a few weeks ago since he's been on the bench lately.
It shows a different side to JM, I genuinely expected new contracts for all so pleasantly surprised some of the deadwood have made way. Good luck to them all, but I'd be surprised if any of them, barring Hunt, find a new club at our level.

Just my thoughts on this. At least we have released some of the dead wood and there will be some new players in next season. Only need to find a whole new back four now (bar Astles).
Retained (technically offered contracts but none signed yet)
Lynch - agreed Astles - agreed Horwood - weird one he's not done alot this season and clearly coming to the end of his career. Possible could help with the coaching. He works locally for a sports company as well so obviously happy to stick round. George - mind boggling decision. Shaw - fair enough, he's been better this year. Chappell -been absent for the majority of the appalling run. Lightweight, but quick and does weigh in with the odd goal. Fair enough. Mahon - just need to get him fit most creative player we have. really missed him. Akintunde - not been fit enough, shown some promise. Joyce - another odd decision, incredibly average footballer and not good enough for this league.
Released
Richards - good decision, not good enough with a poor attitude, glad to see the back of him. Hudson - donkey Hunt - one of the better players this year, bit surprised by this Evans - who??? Killock - injured all the time, an utter waste of a signing. It's not his fault but how much have we paid him to sit in the stands all year? Durrell - blows hot and cold. Cold most of the time. Won't miss him.
Not sure on
Waters - always looks very lightweightm, but is good on the ball and has showed some nice touches. Worth another look. Davies - too slow, get rid Dawson - worth looking at, he can actually pick a pass. Need a haircut though. Marsh - don't think he's actually played has he? If so no point keeping him.

So looks like McCarthy trolled us all over Hudson, for what gain exactly? It only served to make him look extremely silly and at the time it was offensive to fans who pay good money and are educated enough to know a terrible footballer when they see one.

Let's face it Si he obviously has no respect for the support what so ever. He alone has created an us and them between the players and the support. Well done Jon, completely agree that you get what a supporter owned club is all about. And we're stuck with the bell for another two years!

I guess McCarthy knew he had to play him as had little other options and was trying to back his players and give them confidence.
