First person on the release list should have been our elusive assistant manager.
Really disappointed that Jonny Hunt has been release or left, showed passion for the club and shirt. He will be snapped up no problem. Not really surprised at the rest of the releases. People are worrying about some of those left who have been offered new deals but we don't what deals they have been offered. For some it could be less money and for better performers more money than last year, which could force them out or stay and be a squad player but not first choice. I believe this happened to Ryan Higgins last year, was offered less money and moved to Southport.
I think some on the retained list will go. This will turn into a major rebuilding job, not sure if Jon Mc is up to it.

Not disappointed to see Hunt, Evans, Durrell, Killock, Richards and Hudson released. Would like to say thank you to Hunt and Durrell as they have been important this season, but do believe we can get equivalent or better. Good luck to Evans, would have played this season if he was to make the grade, clearly not National league standard. Hope Richa realises he has to add something to his pace to get anywhere, could be effective down a league with a better attitude. Truly disappointed that he has failed to progress. Hudson became a liability, but gave us the occasional reason to cheer.
More will go I am convinced. George has a good footballer in him, if we can see a change for next season as we have for Shaw this, then he could be a useful squad member, but not captain. He needs to earn that.
A year ago we were all anxious about losing Hannah, but Alabi gave us 17 goals. I know we won't get anything for him, but good luck to him, he has earned an opportunity at a higher level.
There will be a lot of good free agents to sign up as every year, hopefully Macca has been doing his homework and we get a better squad; less of them injured would be a good start.

That release list is a bit heavier than I thought it would be given the noises that had emanated in recent months, but lighter than I’d like it.
I think it’s pretty telling that barring Killock & Evans, who were probably certainties to go anyway, the other four are regular starters. It looks to me as if his aim is to improve the quality of the starting XI and pretty much go with the same backup. I don’t see improved roles in the team for the likes of George, Joyce and Chapell in store myself.

Released/retained decisions aren't necessarily the will of the club/manager. Players want to go/have offers that we can't match. Our club isn't in a position to offer contracts when we don't have funds or/and players have ambitions beyond our expectations. Sad to say....

There are no stayers yet,and talks of offered contracts over and above JA and Hughes which were offered to protect the club's investment, is pure speculation at this stage. The speculation may of course be spot on, if so then a bit of a mixed bag for me. I would only keep one of Mahon and Chappell. Mahon offers that bit of trickery and works hard but for me turns inside and goes down blind alleys far too often. Chappell offers speed to burn in a straight line but couldn't tackle his way out of a wet paper bag. Both fall into the category of luxury player for me and don't think a small squad can afford both. Joyce is a strange one, often gives the appearance of being a non footballer, on other occasions he has shown that he can be a reliable steady eddie type of utility player, and definitely seems to be one of the fitter members of the squad but seems to lack confidence. George has been a major disappointment, poor fitness and questionable temperament, too many poor games in the few he has played, for me I would let him go. I would keep the rest and give Marty Waters another year, possibly with a lone spell. Of those definitely released only Hunt is good enough for this level in my opinion, and always seemed committed even when things going badly.

Wouldn't do any harm to invite Killock to train with us if he doesn't get fixed up and stick him on some pay as you play contract. If he can get himself fit (big if, I know) there's a quality centre half there. Mentioned in another thread that Clovis Kamdjo from York would be a good signing. Big and strong!

Agree on Mahon - he's way too inconsistent and seems to be going backwards. I hope we aren't pinning our hopes on him for next season.

It was because we needed the best from our players until the end. This wouldn't happen if a player was told that he was not wanted at the end of the season. Not silly at all, rather it was a smart approach. He could have backed him in a more subtle way rather than come out with a crazy statement that he had been his best signing. It had an adverse effect as he then turned in a couple more poor performances and McCarthy comments had made the lad a target for the crowd. I think McCarthy saw what we all saw, Hudson struggling to play well, and decided the best way to address it would be to boost his confidence by praising him in public. It didn't really work though. Unlikely many, I don't actually think McCarthy is deluded or arrogant. I think he's as aware of the problems as any of us, but has a habit of trying to sugar-coat them with positive and evasive language, and it's a habit that tend to irritate us and backfire on him.

What baffled me was his refusal to play Hughes and Astles in the middle at every opportunity. We tended to leak goals when Hudson played and yet he kept playing Hughes at right back. I still think if we'd played a basic and settled 442 the season would not have ended so disastrously.

So Jon McCarthy was joking all along about Richards and Hudson. This changes the whole landscape about renewing ST. Don't you need to change your avatar Hannibal?

Rooney to Fylde??? Surely to god with their money they're setting their sight's higher than John Rooney? Made up Richards has gone - waste of space in the conference. I've heard Rooney is signing for Guiseley.

Too true Rio, but unfortunately I don't know how to do it. I got my girlfriend's daughter to do it. My new avatar was the scene of our last (distant) win, lol.

I liked Durrell - you could always see how gutted he was when we lost. Showed he cared.
Shame about Killock. I feel for the lad - I had high hopes after his first stint here but we can't be keeping hold of players with poor injury records with our squad size.
It looks like we'll keep a relatively small squad again. I like this - especially as it keeps our Academy lads on their toes as they know they'll get a chance if they progress well.
Hats off to Swettenham's for assisting on this front. This is exactly the way we should be (and appear to) be going - placing the emphasis on youth so talented kids will see us as an attractive proposition.

A bit early for providing McCarthy with excuses ! Also I didn't get the impression he was too keen on playing the young lads this season, who quite frankly couldnt have dosne any worse than some, so why should this change ?

According to tweets from Undercover Chester Lloyd Alibi Vassell Gone. Akintunde Richards Hudson Shaw New Deals Hughes defo tribunal. Do you actually support this club? Do you know what our players names are? Obviously a Wxm troll! Are you Always a Supporter off the other site, by any chance? You remind me off him a bit by the way you're exploding at everyone over nothing. It's a spelling mistake, not the end of the world. If you're using a mobile you'll probably find your phone tries to correct Alabi to Alibi.

Seems to me that it's a case of cutting a couple of the top earners to lower expectations for next season, given the forecast drop in the budget (£49,000 loss I heard). Hunt and Durrell are likely to have already agreed moves elsewhere as deemed our "better" players, but their departures are being sold to us as "being released" whilst we know Alabi and Hughes are gone. We lost our three best players last summer and finished two points above the drop this season - I fear next season will be a long, hard slog scrapping for survival with Wade Joyce and Luke George jobbing about.
If this is the good news MM wants to release the season tickets with, the budget can only get worse.

According to the interview on the BBC website with Maguire though the budget will have to be increased, more money available to McCarthy www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39759108There's a link in there to his interview with Neil Turner

The signing is also going to be a fresh new signing, not a playing from last season. Not trying to defend the club after a poor season but no point slating them inaccurately either.

Sorry I was referring to the clubs overall funds rather than the playing budget, but it was poorly worded.

I agree about the youth lads, but unfortunately there is no bridge to first team. Darlington 1883 have adopted Horden CW (Wearside League ~ Step 7) as their reserve team. Couldn't we do something similar?

Don't need a reserve team per se, just a local link up with a team where we can blood our younger players. Vauxhall seem prime for this, albeit im not sure what level they are at now. I think you want to be seeing them getting a run out in Evostik if possible - although Sam had a rough time at Witton think he benefitted from the experience.
Other than that, there's Airbus who im sure will be happy to take players as they dwindle in the Cymru Alliance

Have York got anyone we could realistically afford? Or Southport given they are close. Id take Allen. Might have to forget about Allen as it looks like Southport are going to exercise the option in his contract so signing him will involve a transfer fee.

It's clearly a massive step from Academy to the first team, especially when it comes to physicality. Getting them to play at a decent standard would help put some proverbial hairs on their chests, learn the tricks of the trade in a competitive league to give them the best chance to progress into our first team.
