FUCK ME. SHALL WE JUST FOLD THE CLUB IF THERE’S NO POINT GOING UP BECAUSE WE’LL GET BATTERED EVERY WEEK. This attitude does me in. So what if we went up and got pumped every week? It’ll be a fun ride anyway. Or we could go up with a bright young manager, develop younger players in a higher shop window, become self sufficient and attract better players released from academies to kick start their careers. And round we go. Plenty of clubs around the world over achieve and sustain it. You’re 100% a main stander. wow I like the ranting response. I am a realist we can barely manage to keep the club in the black in this league and your idea in the NL? Development of the youth team. Get real kids would be hammered in the national league. I can just imagine it on here next season when we are adrift at the bottom of the league and the usual suspects are calling for Cal to get sacked . Do you really think kids is the answer? Try and read his post again. Niiiiceeee and slowly.

Exactly. If we got promoted we would have to sign at least 8 players. Far too many of this team are lightweight or height deficient. NL players cost more money. As a previous poster suggested we would not have this squad. So the budget would need to be higher to pay the better standard of player. Where would the money come from? The only thing I can see is that ticket prices would have to increase, or we would all have to dig extra deep into our pockets for a boost the budget. Our crowds would be no better because we would probably be nearer the bottom than the top. The budget at present is ok for us to play NLN but can we afford to get promoted? I'm not sure! But on the other hand IF we want to get to the promised land of the EFL then we would HAVE to fund playing at the higher level but the only cash we have is what the club generates, and of course the limitations that being a fan owned club brings. Finished top half of the league and got to the second round proper of the FA Cup in the same season under fan ownership. We’d only need to finish above four teams. Just for clarification. 11 of that squad were former EFL players. Two of them still play in the EFL. This is the standard of player we would need to sign if promoted and they are not cheap

Cal signed Liam Edwards from Bolton Wanderers.

There seems a special kind of negativity about worrying that even if we went up this season, we would come straight back down again.
"But the four that went up are the bottom four now". So what? We'd just have to make sure we're the best of the four of them and one other team. There's always a fair chance a team will get kicked out of the NL anyway. Also, the two teams that went up last season from our league weren't that good. We'd have done better in the NL this season than Fylde or Kidderminster.
Whether we could stay up in the NL would be a nice thing to worry about this summer. For now I'm more concerned that we don't look like scoring goals and are losing to mediocre teams.

Just because the 4 that went up are the bottom 4 now means nothing anyway. Not like they are well adrift or anything, 3 of the 4 could stay up no problem at all

Whether we could stay up in the NL would be a nice thing to worry about this summer. For now I'm more concerned that we don't look like scoring goals and are losing to mediocre teams. I don’t think it’s any great shock that Kidderminster are struggling, seeing as they were a mid-table side in our league for most of last season and just happened to come into form at exactly the right time. I’m more surprised by Fylde, but that Adam Murray’s managerial record doesn’t make for brilliant reading - he won promotion with a great team that he inherited from Rowe, and the wheels fell off for him as soon as he was allowed to properly begin to put his own stamp on the squad in the summer. Don’t know much about either of the sides who went up from the NLS, but a club of Oxford City’s stature would surely always be likely to struggle in the division above. It’s all well and good pointing to teams who’ve gone up and immediately struggled, but by the same token look at the likes of Altrincham, Gateshead and Wealdstone - all of whom have thrived since promotion, with similar or more meagre resources to us. I definitely see us more in their mould - a well-run outfit, with a good manager and a core of young players who can grow with the club - and I’m not convinced any of the newly-promoted sides this season tick all of those boxes. As you say, though, all of this would be a nice worry to have if and when we do go up, and I’m not sure why people are even discussing it right now, other than because they’ve run out of things to say about the Buxton game so are trying to find something else to whinge about. A more relevant discussion to be having at this moment in time would be whether we’re good enough to go up this season at all.

There is a level where a fan owned club with only 2000 supporters will get….i think in reality we all know exactly where it is..we just have to be honest with ourselves…🫤

Apart from that, what do you propose? A billionaire takeover? There is nobody, absolutely NOBODY who wants to take over Chester FC, chuck a load of money at getting us promoted while getting nothing out of it. The day there is the vast majority of supporters & CFU members will be fully in favour of enjoying the proceeds of spending their fortune. Until then though, we aim to finish as high as we can.

Under the same structure we've gone toe to toe with Wrexham and Tranmere. Getting out of NLN is infinitely harder than staying in NL. That's our problem.

There’s a so called vlog on this game from some spotty virgin who sounds like a dalek by the name of Footballvlogsuk who goes in the away end to support the opposition. He’s done this a few times now. This club must live in his head rent free.
