No, I don't expect a win. I hope for one though!!! How can you not expect a home win against a side that have just come up from the league below? Very narrow minded approach. It's almost like you want to make it sound like we have to win in order to be angry at anything but a 10-0 win!! Fylde have a much bigger budget and a better squad than ours. Just because they've come up from the league below, it doesn't excuse them from winning football matches. As for Halifax, I'd hope we can grab the 3 points and it's going to be an exciting game hopefully, but expecting us to smash them is just a bit silly.

Every club in the land have a minority of brain dead morons, inclucing ours - remember the minutes 'silence' for the Gresford mining disaster? In all fairness it was a ridiculous idea to do that silence in the first place. A hostile derby match, there was no way You can keep both sets of fans quiet for any length of time. It's not a lot to ask of people to just shut up for a minute though. It probably wasn't the best idea, but it's a shame we didn't take the opportunity to show we're all better than that.

Less than a year ago we scored 4 against Sutton, and 5 against Dover, and both without reply. Most people would agree that we have a stronger squad than twelve months ago, and I genuinely expected us to score 4 against Fylde, given the fact they are new to this level and that I fully expected a team having trained since June, and with a bloody big point to prove, would not run out of steam. Clearly wrong on all counts. I will be bitterly disappointed with anything less than a convincing win on Saturday and would hope to see 2400 minimum in attendance. What a silly post. I will try and pitch it a much lower level for you next time, like making silly childish predictions. Sorry you find facts and expectation such a silly thing.

I must admit I find it very disappointing personally how many of our fans seem to shrug off that incident and simply argue that it was a bad idea to have a minute's silence. Even now, someone points out that the people involved were "braindead morons", and two members are straight in there saying "it was bound to happen", almost as if they're not only excusing the incident but justifying it. Whether a minute's silence was a good idea or not is irrelevant. It's not a good idea to leave your car unlocked, but does that excuse car theft? If you're asked to keep quiet for one minute in respect of a tragic incident, you bloody well do it! You don't interrupt it with, of all things, a taunt about a separate tragic incident. I don't get why people want to defend this sort of thing. For me, it ceases to be a Chester v Wrexham thing when it sinks this low, and just becomes a decent people v scummers thing. We had a chance that night, on national TV no less, to show what a classy set of fans we ALL are. We didn't take it, and even the reaction of a lot of our fans in the aftermath - like blaming the police or pointing at flag incidents the season before as a trigger for it - lacked class I thought. Not the proudest episode in our club's history.

[ Of course I understand that, but these are the fixtures we should be aiming to win in order to keep as far from danger as possible. Considering the optimism over the summer with the new signings and talk of pushing towards the top half of the table this season I'd have thought most of us would be expecting to win on Saturday.

It's just when you look at our record over the past eight months, I don't think we've earned the right to be talking about 'expecting' victories and certainly not comfortable wins like rcb is mentioning. If you turn up genuinely expecting us to thrash the likes of Fylde, who made mincemeat of the Conference North last year, and Halifax who never give us an easy game, that's just delusion, which leads to intolerance and unnecessary pressure. If you were a Halifax fan reading this thread, you'd be wetting yourself.

I tend not to 'expect' victories but I do occassionally feel like we 'ought' to win certain games.
Admittedly, when we were at home to the likes of Leigh Genesis I fully expected a victory then (although LG are probably a bad example!!).
However, in this division our games have been much tougher to predict since promotion and the difference between winning & losing is much finer. We can play OK and still get beat by two or three.
Halifax at home is certainly winnable for us and if we don't I'll be a bit disappointed. That's not to say in any way that I expect to!

Another 1-1 draw in front of 2100, 1800 blues and around 300 mouth frothers I'd be heavily disappointed if that was the attendance. First Saturday of the season would expect them to bring a good few hundred and us to have at least 2000 in the ground. We will see! Unfortunately I think that's where we're at with home fans currently, Tuesday's first game of the season buzz will have worn off and we'll be back to the die hards, hope I'm wrong though.

Doing the silence for Gresford silence the season after the flags thing was a ploy to get people banned, people who were at the game would've been friends of the lads that died, who the Goats mocked. Tensions were high and people had been drinking all day. It was never going to go without incident, having that minutes silence was a joke.

We've been away for a year, so I'm not sure when we became cannon fodder for the mighty Chester, but aren't promoted sides generally expected to be on a bit of a roll in the early days in their new league, if nothing else. Truth be told though, we are NOT the side that Neil Aspin brought into this division, we've not brought in many new faces over the summer and the ones we have, well let's say most of us are willing to reserve judgement. And Billy Heath has made it clear Tom Denton remains the focal point of our attack - this does not bode well, unless he can find a way to get him to click with Adam Morgan in the penalty area. As Morgan can't get into the team, this is a forlorn hope at present. We have one thing going for us- a defence that conceded just 12 goals in the second half of last season. So, I expect another tough game, as they always are between our sides, a point is eminently possible while a win is probably to much to expect.
One final thing- is this now the main forum these days or is the old one still relevant?

Very few of us would think you are can fodder, Believe. We like these philosophical debates on the new improved Devachat. Best to come to this site for discussion on all things Chester FC as it's alive with very different opinions as demonstrated on this thread.
As for the game tomorrow I am hoping for a win, expecting a good performance and certainly going to be there.
I suspect if we do win it will be hard fought, but the beauty of this game is that you can never can tell. If we are outplayed and lose, I will be gutted and frustrated that we have not developed since last year despite a very good close season bringing optimism back after last seasons dire home performances (In 2017 anyway).
I doubt we'll roll you over for the reasons you give about your defensive acumen. If we get an early goal and get you chasing the game, it could be interesting. If you keep it at nil-nil and we get frustrated you could easily be going back with an away win.
Sat 3pm cannot come soon enough.

If we are going to achieve anything this season, it's games like this that we have to win. The home record has to be ended eventually and tomorrow is the perfect occasion. McCarthy is right to proclaim that anything less ramps up the pressure. That's a side effect of him having been retained after last seasons disaster.
