Much better squad than last season but the same old dire shite. It's well-known that those attending recent CFU owners meetings have been told that "these are the tactics, get used to them" but the problem with that is people can choose to just stop coming. As a supporter-owned club we can't afford for that to happen. Agree100%. Total shite. McCarthy has got the ability of making a sow's ear out of a silk purse. The man is fecking clueless.

Couldn't make it today but from what I've heard it doesn't sound like a huge departure from the home games of recent months. Was listening to Jamie Carragher earlier following Liverpool's disastrous defensive display and he was saying even if they sign Van Dijk it won't make any difference as it's down to the style and tactics of the manager. This is similar with us - we've brought in better players but ultimately we're playing the same tactics and some of these players just don't suit it. We've got good footballers, when will he trust them to actually play and create rather than humping it up the pitch and playing on percentages? It might work on the road, but there's a reason why we haven't won a home game this year and Macca seems reluctant to try anything different to rectify it. We now have strikers who can score, but they will need service and you're asking an awful lot of Turnbull and James to expect them to constantly try and win 2nd balls rather than trusting them to get on the ball and play. On one hand at least we're unbeaten so far, but on the other we've faced two of the promoted teams and surely he'd target 4 points from those games. Who exactly are we expecting to beat at home? How would we ever go about beating anyone at home? There is rarely any sustained pressure from us as the home team, and its boring and tedious to watch. Something has to change at home - how long can this winless run go on for?! Being hard to beat is one thing, but we find it hard to win too. The shackles need loosening a bit, and we need to play a more possession based game at home in my opinion to move the opposition around and make them work, tire them out which will then see gaps open. I just don't see lumping it forwards quickly and relying on winning second balls as a viable home tactic, unless you had a squad of players completely suited to it which we don't. Spot on assessment. I am firmly in the macarthy out camp now. I have never been so bored watching a Chester team.

That was absolutely horrendous viewing. Two awful sides both playing hoof ball for 90 minutes. I can see why they haven't scored a goal this season, they're relegation fodder all day long based on that performance. What is worrying is that if we can't beat Halifax at home, where exactly is that home win coming from?
Interesting that we need to average 2,100 at home to break even - just under that today on our first Saturday home game and with a performance like that there is only one way those attendances are going. Why would people pay £18 to watch that - I could have watched that standard of football in the playing field behind my house for nothing. There is only so far goodwill can take you.
Seemed again that we were more bothered about not losing the game than winning it toward the end, with both fullbacks not allowed forward. For the last 20 minutes we had Akintunde and Hannah up front yet still persisted to launch aimless long balls up to them. Surprisingly enough we didn't win many of those headers.
As Big Si correctly said - we've signed better players but the tactics aren't allowing them to play any better than we did last season. Kingsley James and Paul Turnbull are both excellent central midfielders at this level, both have an eye for a pass, yet we just bypass them 90% of the time. It's a complete waste of the talent and skill we have acquired.
One positive was that we did defend reasonably well - albeit against a team with very little going forward. The only time we troubled them was the couple of times we got the ball on the floor and passed around their defenders. It just baffles me how you can stand on the touchline and watch that and not change what your team is doing.
We had our best 11 out there today in what will undoubtedly be one of our easiest games this season, and that's the most McCarthy can get out of them? Very worrying performance, and as McCarthy correctly said in his pre-match press conference, the pressure starts now.

Truly dreadful game of football from two very poor sides.
Yet again, we just did not look or play like the home side.
Plenty of other people on here have suggested reasons for this, all of which are valid to a greater or lesser extent - can't really add more except massive improvement needed very quickly or else we'll be staring up the table

That was just dreadful, couldn't really pick out a good player today but Jesus what were the sponsors thinking our left back one of the worst players on the pitch, Hannah was garbage, Tuesdays MOTM did more in 10 minutes than Hannah did all game, well done McCarthy for dropping him you clueless idiot.

More of the same, as others have said. White is just a carthorse, he's slow and seems get in the way of what little goes on up top. We looked much improved with Akintunde and Hannah and I hope Macca starts with them on Tuesday. Halifax posed no threat second half and really were there for the taking. To create so little in two home games is so disappointing. The passing is as bad as I've seen in recent years and the movement today wasn't there either. We all know what the underlying problem is. I agree with all posts on here. Tom Shaw wasted on the touch line. If he has to stay there it would be better as acting manager.

Was a terrible game with nothing at all happening. Akintunde goes from MOTM last game to the subs bench and showed why he should be starting when he came on. As a partnership, White and Hannah didn't work, in fact White wasn't that great today and was bullied by Matty Brown of all people. The team don't look as easy to beat this season, we leaked too many goals last year, however we don't look like scoring either!
I can see a lot of 1-0 0-0 and 0-1 scores at this rate, not the entertainment we need to bring more people through the game. Disappointing not to be beating sides like Halifax, but were WAY to narrow and to be honest we look tactically lost at times.

McCarthy - admit that you haven't a clue and are in the job solely because of Sharps efforts. Do the decent thing and resign before you kill everyone's interest in the club. The fact that there were only 1700 home fans at the game today should be enough for the Board to be taking some action.

No, I don't expect a win. I hope for one though!!! How can you not expect a home win against a side that have just come up from the league below? Just out of interest, do you post as that alias, rcb and Paulie? Or do you just all know one another so tend to like each others posts. Just to add, this isn't a snipe it's a genuine question.

I'd be heavily disappointed if that was the attendance. First Saturday of the season would expect them to bring a good few hundred and us to have at least 2000 in the ground. We will see! Unfortunately I think that's where we're at with home fans currently, Tuesday's first game of the season buzz will have worn off and we'll be back to the die hards, hope I'm wrong though. Fair play Eddie, pretty much spot on with that. I did expect more and maybe optimism got the better of me. Surely we need to see more through the gates to progress as a club.

Two games in and two draws. The negativity is unreal. White a cart horse?? You have to be kidding, he's gonna be a good striker for us. The lads need time. Hannah will take another 2-3 games to get his mojo back after after a season doing diddly squat and a limited pre season. The same for Mahon...he's well off the pace but it will come.
God help us if we had lost both games.
Try being positive!

If we are going to play boring football then it at least has to yield results. I'm thinking West Brom....probably work on shape and set pieces all week long and win games through quality set piece delivery and attacking things in the box. Not pretty but it works for them. We play boring football and haven't won a home game in 16 attempts, it's no wonder people are pissed off and bored senseless. We were 1 game away from relegation last season but McCarthy never admitted that and was insisting we had done wonders so perhaps it's no surprise that lessons haven't been learnt and there has been no tactical evolution despite signing decent players.
The full backs dont go past the half way line and we have a centre midfielder playing on the wing. We have 1 winger starting in Mahon who has looked rusty so far, so it's no wonder we look narrow. It's all a bit predictable and easy to defend against. At home we need to stretch teams and make them chase the ball, then the likes of Dawson and James might be able to find spaces to pass into but everything is so congested and there is nobody showing out wide.
McGuire must be getting annoyed. He is getting all these deals and sponsors yet the only thing decent that they are being served is the grub in the Legends Lounge and the fun stops when the game begins.

Well that was a poor and disappointing watch. Two dire sides scrapping it out for 90-odd minutes. I agree with some posters that we have quality, but we just don't use the right tactics, the same tactics which we have been using since January. We couldn't even string two passes together and all we did was hoof, hoof, hoof without keeping possession and without using width. The thing is, this squad has the potential to do well with the right coaching and tactics but it seems as if we are too anxious to do it and rush into everything. This was rectified by the attendance, and from what I believe there were only 1,700 Chester fans there today, which is probably our core. I can only see these attendances plummeting, and goodness knows what it will be next week. Probably around 1,700. It seems a bit daft that most of us are already starting to get restless, but it's true, the shadows of last season are still hanging over us. To not beat a poor team in Halifax at home today isn't good enough. Oh well, at least the Goats and Tranmere got beat, and we are unbeaten 🙂. However, we still have 44 games to put this right but we must pull our socks up though!

We aren't the only team to play long ball in this league but the teams who do tend to have the players suited for it and maybe a smaller pitch where there isn't the room for playing an expansive game. We have the best surface in the league and a wide pitch.....we should always be able to knock it about but for years now it's just pumping it up to small strikers. We need fresh ideas....ive nothing against Shaw and perhaps he is a great coach but can't help feeling that if we stuck with Macca we at least needed someone who could challenge his ideas occasionally.

We look like a route one side, without the players to make it work. I dont think we put more than 2 passes together, all game? White and Hannah had poor games, but were given very little service and we only started to show any invention and creativity when Akintude game on. The defence played OK, as did the keeper. James probably MOM. Turnbull worked hard. What really annoyed me was the times we lost possession. Much more quality is required. At least under Burr, until he had his crisis of confidence, we tried to play football.

Of course, only 2 games in but probably worth noting given the standard of performance served up so far that McCarthy seemed to suggest at the CFU meeting that he would be happy with 1.1 points per game - 50.6 points = survival.
We may be "unbeaten" which I'm sure he will mention at least 4 times in his post-match interview - but what he won't be mentioning is that we currently aren't even meeting his own staggeringly low standards.

That said I guess the positive is we haven't lost! Akintunde has to start on Tuesday against what looks like a bang average Hartlepool side.

If we're being positive, those are games we might have lost last season, but really two draws in home games against sides who don't look like they'll do much this season is not the antidote to the end of last season we were hoping for.
If we're not going to win games like that, it means we need to be going to places like Hartlepool and winning, and that's a taller order. I fear that two pretty dour home draws is sort of the worst start possible, because it's not very good, but it's not bad enough to justify real action. We'd come across terribly if we sacked McCarthy after two draws, but I think it's a matter of when and not if. It's not working, is it?
