Askey would be a dream, but I don't think we could tempt him here without giving him a proper budget to work with. Why bother leaving Macc if not?
I wouldn't mind Gary Hill having a go. He always made Woking competitive and played decent football. Think he's always been based in the south though so possibly unlikely.

Get Hill a season ticket for the Virgin Pendelino.

Both are good shouts. Hill as pointed out could be an issue geographically and askey would need tempting which we might not be able to do. That said they are both good shouts as I think it's imperative we go for someone with a proven track record at this level

Tough one but would really like to see askey here! Builds a competitive team every year at Macc with a similar budget Yeah. Me too. Problem is he's been there for years, and unlikely to leave. Might be compensation issue too. Remember we're also likely to need to pay our manager compensation. Not sure we could afford to do both. Be interesting to see what our ex Macc contingent would think either. He for me though would be the first phone call.

Given Maccs situation

The question isn't just about who comes in, but also the Length of contract they get. I presume anyone coming in Would want more than just a year, given how quickly we've Gone through managers since getting back into the conference, they'd want some sort of stability. Also someone coming in now would be working virtually a whole season with players they didn't choose to bring in, which again makes me think someone coming in, would want longer than a season.

Not especially quickly by modern standards, I would say. How many have Eastleigh and Southport been through since we appointed McCarthy? A new manager now would be our fourth in just over four seasons, which is more changes than you'd want, but I think the average managerial tenure these days is less than a year. I can't really see why Askey would come here. We're a bit better supported than Macc but our resources are similar. Sideways move at best for him, and he's probably got the securest job in the division.

Very True that other clubs have gone through more managers than us, but point I was making that was to a decent manager looking in, we seem like a club whose fans/owners would want a change if things are not going our way, so why would they settle on a one year deal, knowing that if come the end of the season and it's not worked out, we'd probably just bin them offanyway, without any compensastion or anything, especially if it's a manager leaving another club to come here.

Although Askey would be a great appointment there are a couple of issues. Could we afford the compensation to Macc for him and agree a severance package for McCarthy? that's gonna be a double whammy to the budget but as others have said the financial threat from keeping McCarthy is potentially greater. Plus would he want to come here for anything less than a two year contract?
Bignot is obviously available, no compensation issues but doubts perhaps after his 6 month spell at Grimsby ended in a sacking?
Do we follow the Lincoln route and go for a hungry young manager from a division below who already has had some success? As people have said there doesn't appear to be a huge number of candidates available around at the mo who know this league/division so that maybe an option.
Sharps would be a great shout but if he's on a 3 year contract the amount of compo would kill the deal - unless he has a release clause for a managers job
Morrell has an excellent win record at both Wrexham and Tamworth but with our cross border rivalry would he wanna risk the wrath by coming here?

Some are saying bignot wouldn't be my choice I will tell you why managed to get Solihull up on the bogle cash then went to Grimsby and somehow managed to get the sack allegedly for assaulting the players whilst a good manager not someone a fans owned club wants

Brabin would be out for me too, for similar reasons to Bignot.

If we want to increase crowds, at least in the short term, would a "big name" appointment such as Robbie Fowler achieve that aim? Would be a hell of a risk as he has no significant experience as a coach or manager to speak of. Would probably guarantee TV interest and more home televised matches, particularly in FA cup, just the sort of thing the media tarts like. He was short listed for the Macclesfield job before caretaker Askey got the gig.

Richard Money is promoting himself in the NLP this week. What do people make of his credentials? Experienced manager at this level, who has succeeded and developed players - some of whom are now playing in the Premier League. Just not sure whether he's not another Burr.

Had success, but at clubs with a bit of dosh to throw about. Probably cost a bit, and he's not from the area. So likely he's minimal local player knowledge. He'd be in the experienced , but not ideal, pile for me. Keep us up, but at what cost?

The Garry Hill one is the best shout so far. Knows this league inside out and has never been relegated. Don't think he's ever lost a game at the Deva either!

Other out of work managers who may be worth considering that I can think of (although all would come with an element of risk):
Peter Jackson - not managed for 6 years but I'm sure his name has been linked to us in the past Dave Jones - not sure he'd drop this low but has a great record in the higher divisions although struggled with Hartlepool Ronnie Moore - again, very solid record wherever he's managed, even at Eastleigh he won 47% of his matches, showed interest last time but didn't apply Russ Wilcox - went 26 games unbeaten when taking Scunthorpe to League 1, struggled at York although it seems that was systemic! Liam Daish - ex Ebbsfleet and Nuneaton boss - experienced at this level with small budgets, believe he applied back when Burr was given the gig.

Moore is a no from me, he tweeted Hartlepool after our game there last week saying they should be "beating teams like Chester". Gobshite.

We need an appointment that will unite the existing fans and bring back into the fold the 1000 fans who have drifted away over recent years. Just needs a phone call to Chesterfield now.

Askey would be my choice in an ideal world but I can't see him leaving Macclesfield for us. Not sure what the situation is regarding his contract at Macc for one. I read he was on a rolling one year contract, but not sure if that situation has changed since.

Read an interview not long back with Jackson saying he only ever had one approach from a club after leaving Bradford in 2011, surprising given his managerial record. He also spoke fondly of his time at Chester.

I'm available at the moment, out of work due to redundancy. 30K a year will do. I mean I couldn't do any damn worse after all! No square pegs in round holes, full backs who get forward at every possibility. I'd even keep 2 up top when defending corners! I know you want me CFC! 🤔
