That interview is jaw-dropping! He blows a gasket when asked about the winless run. His singling out of the reporter is completely out of order. I'm struggling to decide whether it's arrogance of the highest order or just plain old naivety that he's above questioning from the press. As predicted, he's going to dine out on the Aldershot result for as long as he possibly can. McCarthy out. Awful attitude shown in his response to a very fair question. Not sure about Charlie but I know the likes of Shane and Dave Powell are lifelong Chester fans and it's plain disrespectful to speak to fans like that, especially given that they are just doing their job. To accuse a journo of having an agenda against the club is a shocking thing to suggest and doesn't do much for his nice guy image. I think he should apologise for those comments. This business of 'having an agenda' has been cited by a couple of here recently. It's absolute drivel. Maybe he is a nice guy when everything is on his terms and things are going his way, but he certainly hasn't presented himself in that mold since the pressure has ramped up. It's always everyone else's fault but his and is shamefully embarrassing. I'm sure when he does get the push, it will be all the fans/medias fault.

McCarthy's interview today has all the hallmarks of Terry Smith - rambling away and making out all is rosey, blaming the media for the treatment he's getting (when the questions they've asked are perfectly reasonable in my view) and going on about a previous great result as though it makes everything ok in the same way Mad Terry was rejoicing some time later about wins at Brighton and Shrewsbury which, enjoyable as they were, were followed by a return to poor results. It's cringeworthy in the extreme.
He had a pop at Charlie Croasdale there for critical tweets at half-time away at Aldershot, but what were he or Dave Powell meant to say? That it had been great when it was clearly anything but in that first 45 minutes? They don't work for an official publication of the club and are entitled to voice criticism when warranted.

A very depressing state of affairs.

He needs to go and as and when he does I hope we don't go down the "come and apply to be our manger - send us your cv" routine again. Applications close in 2 weeks etc.
I hope the board are thinking of possible replacements, and go and get their man, whoever that is.
Ideally, we need an experienced football manager, one who is willing to invest in youth, and has shown to operate on a tight budget. Leave the community aspect out of the selection criteria, this is going great guns at the moment.

Spot on, the guys in the media have been soft enough with this guy over a long period of time. They asked a number of reasonable questions today and you can see the managers face acted shocked that they dared to ask such a question. What the hell does he expect the press lads to say? Unlucky today Jon? One of them days Jon? Been a a handful of managers that have put in the nutcase category with Smith and Hill top of the list but this guy is running them close. This has much the similarities of a Terry Smith and his deranged interviews, blaming everyone bar himself, smith was a power mad self obsessed yank with no knowledge of football, Macca is an experienced well respected international footballer at a decent level, it's embarrassing from him and he needs to throw the towel in now. Cut out the bullshit and depart please.

I think the board only need look on here to see he lack of support for the manager now, it's definitely not a minority.
Who acts as the voice for the board now? I've lost track of who is on it.

Charlie Lambert is a massive Chester fan McCarthy can manipulate the press guys with his rambling responses while at the same time not answering the question put to him. The typical example was when he was first asked about the fans response at the final whistle and he rambled on about how good the lads on the Harry Mac were. The media guys need to take a tougher line and repeat the question until he answers it without going off on a tangent. As someone else said, he referred to the Aldershot game more than the Macc game. Terry Smith in disguise.

Listened to his interview and no one questions his commitment, effort and respect to the club. The problem is he isn't good enough to do the job - it's as simple as that. Get him back in a community role and leave managing to someone who can.

And if the guy has any decency he wouldn't accept the option anyway.

Didn't on Saturday nor when we had a good run last season, nor did I when it went south after the New Year. At risk of inviting more abuse, my position remains the same. I will continue to support the manager while he is in post and sincerely hope he turns the form around, particularly at home. I'm very down and disappointed tonight like all of us, but I won't get involved in name calling, booing or worse, abusing someone anonymously on social media. It's classless behaviour and adds no value. We have an elected board who have my trust to make the relevant decisions when necessary.

Was that what the latest rant was about? Maybe if he spent less time trawling social media and calling out fans (well, pseudonyms) and local journalists for their fully warranted criticisms and more time trying to turn things around on the football pitch then we wouldn't have as much of a problem with him. I've never been a fan of him using social media to interact directly with the fans anyway but he's really taking the piss now.

He has deleted his twitter, not that it stops him reading stuff online His latest rant, having a go at the papers, accusing them of trying to divide fans and manager, accused them of having an agenda. When asked about the 14 home games without a win (a question long overdue) he turned on the reporter asking where the questions were about the Aldershot win. Madness. I think he's had an easy ride in the media, until this afternoon.

It sounds like more of the same old disappointing rubbish was on offer for viewing today? The chronicle report really rams home how bad it was. Generally I find it to be a reasonably accurate reflection of the games and performance. I know we had no strikers available today and that is unfortunate but to loose 4 within 5:6 games what an earth? We had an opportunity today to build on Saturdays result and if doing so going into the next two very winnable games in a reasonable position. Torquay bless them seem in a mess at present. We should win the game but with JM still in charge I wouldn't be confident. If we were to win both these seemingly easier fixtures then it prolongs JM's managerial tenure. I'm afraid I'd rather he was removed from his post by the end of Tuesday thus giving the caretaker plenty of time to prepare for these two games. Let's see the players enjoying there football again. I have said it on numerous posts and threads that in my opinion in the best interests of our club action should have been taken after the final game of last season. In terms of a replacement personally I would try former Woking boss Hill as he has had a good record on limited budget in this league on numerous occasions/seasons. I guess is he interested? With him being south east based could he entice players to come to our club as he I presume he wouldn't have many contacts within north west football. Other names have been branded about on here including myself who has offered up Bignot. I have heard enough regarding him to sway it Hills way. So for me it's JM out asap and Hill in? Interested to see what others feel about this. It's not rocket science that clearly things cannot be allowed to drag on any longer.

Really don't want to get into a protracted debate as I'm aware that I'm very unpopular in my views on here and would rather not add further fuel to the fire. Not quite sure what you want me to clarify, but as you asked nicely, I will try to do so. We are fortunate to operate within a model where key decisions are made by people who are democratically elected. They got my vote and I trust them. Regarding the manager, in so many ways he is a very good fit for the model and whilst I know this will attract more incoming flack, a very decent person. I completely understand the reaction to poor results and I guess my issue is the way that this manifests itself on here and other social media forums that I take issue with. Jon McCarthy has my encouragement and support. If he is to remain, there is no other way to act that adds any value. To act in any other way amounts to gratuitous behaviour that only makes the protagonists feel better. Hope that helps

Oh definitely. The local press have to balance their act between not offending the club too much (in order to still be allowed access) and also fairly representing the views of the supporters. They've definitely done well to strike the right balance over the last few months. We've had a manager who has turned on the fans and once that happens there's simply no way back from there. The reaction at full time today was the worst we've ever had as Newco and that actually says a lot about our patience. We're not a horrible bunch but we're not idiots either - saving the pent up anger until full time and still applauding the players tells you everything.
McCarthy's time is up.
