Just to add to that, I reckon the board will give him at least the next two games as both are winnable and we should be taking six points. Problem with that is it prolongs the current and delays the inevitable - because you can bet your mortgage we'd lose the next home game after.

A small part of me is wondering whether if the two results this weekend had been the other way round - a defeat at Aldershot followed by a win against Macc - the mood might have been a lot better even though the situation is basically the same, but it's an irrelevant point really because the home form has been a problem for so long and still hasn't been addressed. Nicking the odd unexpected win away from home is great, but your home games are your bread and butter and he is simply not setting us up in a way to win games at the Deva.
Home form is especially important for a club like us that's so reliant on what comes through the turnstile. You sensed the club were addressing this with the Blue Monday statement last week, which many read as a statement that the club understands things haven't been good enough and the manager is aware that things need to change, so to hear that yet again we allowed the visitors to boss the game and had 11 men back at corners and still let a Macc player score unmarked, well, it seems the message just isn't getting through to the manager.
I find his interviews hard to watch. He doesn't interview well when we lose, but I don't really see arrogance or delusion - just desperation. He's determined to put a positive slant on things because he's close to losing his job. I think he's sincere in what he says - he's proud to be Chester FC manager and takes the position very seriously, and because of how much it means to him he comes across as defensive, nervous, rambling, and yes, delusional, but I just think it's all a byproduct of desperation and helplessness.
It's definitely now time for a fresh start and a new direction. I think we need to put the Burr/McCarthy era behind us as, despite some memorable moments here and there, it hasn't really been a happy period. I will feel sorry for McCarthy when it comes to an end, but come to an end it must.

Whilst there is still something to hang out to, this board will do so. Do they really believe, even if he picks points up from the next two games, that he will deliver us 51 points by next April and, more importantly, guarantee crowds of 2,000+ through the winter months. There is only so long you can hang on and so long you can continue to take the short term view.

Didn't go the game today but did pass the stadium at 16.45 on route to work When asking people their opinions on the way out I got a lot of comments on the lines of "I'm not setting foot in the stadium until he's gone" and two elder gentlemen even offered me their season tickets in jest
It's looking bleak and surely JM knows this and must step down as soon as possible. At this rate gates will be down around 1200 fans by Xmas and we'll be in even more sh##

McCarthy has been in post for virtually 18 months. Performances, baring the odd rare success, in the main range from unacceptable to utterly abject since mid December. Today was clearly in the latter category. It was so bad, fans were numb, almost shocked at how a team can perform as poorly as this - and at home . I felt there was a good atmosphere before Kickoff and even an air of expectation. Even McCarthy couldn't point to negativity around the stadium today, as that was all on the pitch. This performance was like so many others and its pretty much pointless analysing where things went so wrong again. What today showed, was a manager all at sea with his tactical approach and the inability to use resources effectively, even with injuries. He obsesses about trying to stop the opposition playing, which we rarely achieve, but also stifles any creativity we have, resulting in consistently negative, lifeless performances. Whether he is given 2, 5, or 10 more matches, won’t change anything, and it should be clear from his track record by now, that there is no credible evidence on which to believe he has the capacity to be successful at this Club. Enough is enough, change is now desperately needed.

I'm not saying you've got no back bone although that is the sort of comment somebody with no back bone would make but how about having an opinion, man? Don't just spout cliched rubbish, we're getting enough of that from the manager. Say what your opinion is. It is a forum after all. And before you retaliate with, I'm just a key board warrior, I'd be more than happy to meet you in legends and discuss it over a pimms and lemonade. Not into Pimms, but happy to have a pint with you anytime if you want to hear more of my clinched rubbish😁 And a clinch too, count me in, sounds like a perfect Saturday.

I wanted him gone by last night, but that hasn't happened. So I hope the club at least take action, bring McCarthy into the boardroom today and tell him it's 6 points at Torquay and Solihull away or he's gone. If he wins both then it's 3 points at home to Ebbsfleet or he's gone. 9 points out of 9 or McCarthy will no longer be the manager of Chester FC.

Get rid today.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing there to suggest that anything will improve in the next 3 games. He's lost the plot, his relationship with the press is in tatters, his relationship with the fans is ruined. He professes his love for the supporters, well Jon, it's very much a one-way street.
We just about forgave you for the unacceptable form at the back end of last season, and you restored some hope with those pre-season signings, but... you've gone even more negative, the football - if you can call it that - is a disgrace. £18 to sit there and watch that is taking the piss.
Do yourself and all of us a favour, if you truly love the club, hand in your resignation this morning and allow us all to move forward from this. If you continue to hang on, those boos at full time will only get worse.

Even if he did miraculously get 6 points from the next 6, we all know that it won't last. He needs to get at least 45 from the next 40 games and he's not capable of that - history shows this. It's not just the next 2 or 3 games, it's all the others that follow and this short term thinking seems to be the desperate straw that the board are holding onto. Torquay and Solihull would have to be diabolical as well - even more so than us! It's winning back the crowd and re-building that relationship, winning back the media etc as well. It's a long, long way back from a ground reverberating to a chant of 'out, out' out' at full time and reporters tweeting that your behaviour has been out of order in the press conference after they ask acceptable questions. I just feel sorry for the players as they look absolutely drained of confidence and humiliated.

Every game delaying the inevitable is an opportunity lost for our next manager to save the club. That's how desperate I feel. On paper McCarthy can still claim there are enough games left to win the league with a record number of points. If the board dither and he loses the next 25 games, will they still believe him when he will claim we will win the final 15 games and survive! By now we all know he is not the man for the job. He is past the point of being a problem. The PROBLEM IS THE BOARD WHO ARE KEEPING HIM IN A JOB.

I think the sad thing is that he really seems believe what he is saying in that interview yet it wasn't that long ago he was having ago at the fans for being negative. It really baffles me how he thinks the local press have an agenda against him when it is questions most fans want the answers too and are unhappy with current situation. That interview has more questions than any answers and the Board and CEO need to end this for the sake of the club and his health as the pressure is clearly getting to much. I was on nights and got up early for the rallying call and did another night shift last night and I'm fuckd and wish I had just stayed in bed and slept this really does need to end.

From an outside perspective after the past summer/yesterday have browsed this thread with interest.
To be fair to your manager it was a tired performance & our extra recovery day (with Dover being Friday) probably had a lot to do with that.
If I were you I'd be less certain that the summer signings he made are particularly good though. It'll sound like sour grapes but in all honesty the four former Macc players are not people who'd get in our side now.
Turnbull - excellent player but increasingly struggled with fitness/injury before he left (hence not offered a two year deal), left for Barrow and didn't set the world alight. Sense was he was on the wane for us unlike, say, Whitaker who defies time somehow. Popular player nonetheless.
McCombe - cost us the FA Trophy by being too slow, wasn't in our first choice 11 last season, we now have 4 CBs who are better than him (Pilkington, Lowe, Kennedy, Thompson). Basic in the extreme, very vulnerable to anything played alongside him.
Kingsley - decent enough but a bit of a jack of all trades. Not really a destroyer, not really a goal threat, not really a big creator. Holds his own as an all-rounder but is more of a foil than a main man. Got relegated season prior to joining us.
Halls - not everyone from Macc would agree, but many would. He's basically useless. Slow, doesn't stop crosses, can't pass, doesn't overlap, has a tendency to punt it up the line/scythe it out of play frequently.
Would be interested to hear how you've rated them so far?
Best of luck for the rest of the season, apart from when you lot visit the Moss!

Why give him any longer ? I made the point in the summer when all these new signings were coming in that you can give a useless tradesman the best tools going, but you'll still get a piss poor job !!! so he wins the next two winnable games... does that change everything and turn him from out of his depth, to a manager who can guide this team to where it should be ? of course not, so why carry on with him in charge

Our squad isn't the problem. Our tactics at home are the problem. We do just enough away. That is basically it in a nutshell

I'm pretty sure all were offered contracts, so Askey obviously rated them and they all looked decent enough last season when you came to the Deva. There's widespread outrage about everything amongst a subsection of our fans. They've got a proper Domesday view of the club so everything adds into that. The club is a bit of a mess in many ways but has been for the whole twenty odd years I've been supporting (sometimes much more so, actually). I think Askey was quite 'take it or leave it' over the players mentioned. Halls has been replaced by a guy from Port Vale in lieu of Hodgkiss (who was Kiddy's capt & got a two year deal despite Hallsy only being offered one). Turnbull I know from someone at the club didn't really want to leave but Macc weren't going to match what Barrow could pay & not for two years, which I think he signed up for there. As I say, he was/remains a popular player with some genuine quality, though he's more grit than glamour. James I'm sure Asked genuinely wanted to keep but Richards from Torquay (their capt) is basically a like for like replacement to provide a bit of an engine. I've said already he's decent, won't let anybody down but I'm not sure I'd pin my hopes on him firing a playoff push. McCombe, again, will have been offered a one year deal on not great money because Askey appeared not to rate him particularly highly, given he got pushed out of the team by Byrne last season (who has left for Gateshead). He's only ever really felt like a stopgap & decent blocker alongside Pilkington. His lack of pace is a huge problem, though he's a threat from set pieces. Most more sanguine Macc fans were disappointed about the loss of Norburn and Holroyd, whom no doubt the management genuinely wanted to keep but couldn't compete with the cash/club size offered by Wrexham/Tranmere. They were key last year.

I've had enough of the whole being positive attitude (probably deluded and naïve to be honest, just hopeful that things would turn out ok). I can't be arsed anymore. I even watched the after Macc interview with Jon and I felt slightly sorry for him, fuck knows why, because he really does need to jog on. Leave. Resign. We made Macclesfield look like a decent unit, when in reality they are going to be a mid-table conference team. Sick to death of the same story, different year saying. We need energy, offensive and eager displays, not fucking morbid shite.

Has beens is maybe a bit harsh. Turnbull was very good I'm just not sure how good he is now after form/fitness issues. James is dependable but not spectacular. McCombe is solid enough but I'd say he's basically an archetypal Conference defender of which every team has several. Halls is the only one I would go so far as to say is practically useless. He's actually got worse in his time with us, largely as he seems to have bulked up (part time personal trainer) and lost what little pace he had. How he was captain entirely mystifies me, but I think Askey was hoping it'd bring him on a bit.

If Halls is so bad why did your fans giving him foul mouthed abuse at every opportunity? Seems like you miss him! I thought Halls was decent in both games last season against Chester. However, McCarthy could bring in Lukaku and still manage to destroy his abilities!

Thanks for that mac fan. In a nutshell you are telling us that even his claim to have gone for quality over quantity is a lie. At most, he may have bought some has beens, in your opinion. Obviously you didn't have the privilege of seeing our casualty department with its patients more than familiar with being out injured. With a lesser budget than us, how did your manager ever manage to buy some decent players, forge them into a good team, play decent football, and keep them fit? But yes, since pre-season, where it all matters, he has been absolutely fucking useless. I could do a better job myself to be honest with you. He just punts them down the line / out of touch as stated earlier, an absolute shadow of the Right Back we had last year in Vassell who many slated actually. Christ.

Midday the day after the game, and all seems to have gone very quiet with no hint of movement and/or gossip emanating from the Club.
Methinks very little, if anything, will happen soon which will not help the general mood around the Club.
Can't imagine what the atmosphere is like at training (do we train today?), everybody heard the comments at the final whistle and must be affected by them. How on earth does JM pick up morale after all that's happened?
Going on my hols in 36 hours, next game I'll see will be 23rd Sept vs Maidenhead. Got an awful feeling not much will have changed by the time I get back!

As bad as we were yesterday and macc fully deserved to win , they were not a particularly good side and in my opinion no way near as good as last year with Halls and James

I'm sure you'll need it after watching that shower of shite yesterday. I still believe a small part of the blame needs to fall onto the players but the tactics employed are, unbelievably dire and lack creativity and pretty much everything you need to win games.

The board need to act now, it won't be long and the anger will soon be vented at them.
