Today was another embarrassing display lacking fight and effort the very things we thought we would have this season. AJ and BM have talked the talk along with players but sadly it's just hot air. We have a tiny squad lacking in fitness, pace, mobility and skill. Unless funds are found for some reinforcements very soon we will be battling relegation again as it seems we have yet again signed a load of shit on ! Our fans don't deserve this, we took a great following today but we're let down as usual. Badly missed Gary Roberts too.

Seems to be the easy thing to say these days as soon as someone plays bad it’s because they are lazy etc. Some of them just aren’t good enough, it’s as simple as that, doesn’t mean they aren’t giving it their all. Take Smalley for example, clearly putting himself about and could see he was trying to do something positive but his delivery and passing was appalling. Stopforth....threw himself into some tackles and ran his nuts off, but zero quality when he got the ball. The effort is there, but at this moment we are just not good enough and we are playing teams better than us.

The effort is there but sadly some of them just don’t have enough quality and you can also see their is a lack of cohesion which is perhaps to be expected given the turnover in players. The first goal......Shenton hacks it straight at their guy but makes amends with a good save/tackle, then rather then send it out the ground Burton poked it straight at their player and it’s back in the box and in the net. A goal made by us. Second goal......2 headers won by their players leaves Udoh nicely positioned to slot home. We simply have to clear our lines in those situations. Another goal of our doing. Third goal.....after it took an age who should take our corner, it turns out to be a crap corner and we get caught on the counter without enough men to defend. Game over. Learnt a few things today. The full backs aren’t good enough, too lightweight and terrible delivery whether it’s from set pieces or in open play. Stopforth really doesn’t have any quality on the ball, he runs a lot and puts some tackles in but against the top teams this won’t be enough. Matty Hughes looks lost, didn’t seem to know where he was playing. Waters is lightweight and sadly out of his depth. Dudley is not a lone striker and badly needs a strike partner. Telford were quicker and sharper than us, but will cut us some slack on that given the enforced break we have had. Frustratingly we were starting to ask some questions in the second half but the substitution of Mahon absolutely killed any momentum we were building. He looked baffled, most fans around me looked baffled, and the players on the pitch were baffled too. He was just coming into the game and looked our main threat, and no disrespect to Thomson but he isn’t the same style of player and the tactical shift didn’t work at all. The managers take responsibility for the poor subs, and not setting instructions for who takes corners.....that was truly embarrassing. Clutching at straws but thought after a poor start that Burton grew into the game and think him and Roberts could be an effective partnership. We badly missed Gary’s ability on the ball today, too many players scared to pass the ball properly. The levels of abuse were shocking though. I expected that there would be a bit of stick but Jesus that was bad. We are 4 games in and ok it’s not great at the moment but can’t we just show a bit of patience? I’m not absolving the managers of responsibility but they are probably finding that some of these lads might not be what they thought, and that tactically it’s not right at the moment. At least they aren’t stubborn enough to persist with the 3-5-2 of the previous games that looked shaky, but what we saw today didn’t look the answer either. Not sure if it was just a case of some grown men not being able to take their ale, but there were some that were a real embarrassment. Welcome to Chester lads Bern and Johnno, where grown men will call you useless c***ts and tell you to fk off back to Salford after four games.....real classy club us, I was going to post some comments on the game but can't really add much to Si's analysis which is pretty spot on. I suppose it's irrelevant really as we had 2 or 3 chances to clear the ball but the charge down from Shenton's clearance looked like blatant handball to me. Still, clutching at straws I suppose. Any positives? Well Mahon had a good 20 minutes - we could do with seeing more of that sort of stuff, and at least we did show a bit of fight second half but there is alot of work to do. Can these managers do it? We don't know because it has only been four games.

Our fitness levels looked awful. Some of our players were putting it in but not all, most 50/50 tackles our players were 2nd ,headers again 2nd. Its a sad time for our fans who have to endure this shit. I'm sick of the 'we can't compete bollocks too' just what level have we got to drop to before we can ?

I must say also that Shenton wasn't to blame for the 1st as he managed a great block, but the defender instead of Row Z passed it straight to their player who centred it for a goal. Only positive for me was the cameo from Marsh Hughes. I believe Jonno said that what happened at Blyth wouldn't happen again. I wasn't at Blyth, but it couldn't have been much worse than the shambles I witnessed today.

I think a back 4 will suit Smalley much better, and I think he'll eventually find his feet. Like his desire and work rate.
I think Grand looks a good player too. Seems mobile enough still for his age and is a threat from set pieces. As for the rest of our defenders, they all concern me whatever shape we play. Jury is out on Livesey, like the idea of 2 old war horses at the back but we'll get exposed by our lack of pace. Pritchard just isn't doing anything right now, and I think he has the same problem as Waters in that he'll be targeted by physical attackers of the opposition.
Difficult to judge him on today, but I think Moran would be a better bet to partner Grand next week. Is Livesey droppable, though?

I went today as most on this thread did too. The first goal was pure comedy (well not comedy more catastrophy). It was the stuff of nightmares and football howler compilations. Disgraceful!
To be two down in twenty to two defendable and self inflicted goals reminded me of the sort of luck we made for ourselves under Bignot last season..... you know it’s coming and there’s nothing you can do to stop it or even believe it.
I thought we came out well second half and for the first time in a while Mahon looked like a threat.... then we took him off!!
Third goal well that’s what happens when you push on and don’t have a clue who’s taking the corners.... I mean that really was Sunday League.
However we are 4 games in... its early doors win the two games in hand (granted not likely unless huge improvement but possible) and we are in playoff spots!
The second most embarrassing thing that happened was fans arguing amongst themselves after the 2nd goal went in.... to be fair not sure what went on but if we turn on ourselves there’s nothing down for us!
What the most embarrassing thing of the entire day and match was the abuse that the managers got...... four games in and “F off back to Salford” come on think before you drink boys!!! Give yer heads a wobble! Pathetic!

Also, did any one else spot Mooney on the bench throw an almighty wobbler when we used our 3rd sub? Threw hits boots and gave the dugout roof a thump.
Bad day all round.

I must be the only person who thought Mahon needed to be replaced, there is just no end product from him. If getting the ball and cutting inside every time without finding a forward ball is good then I stand corrected 😂

Some of our fans do love a meltdown, when did this get all hysterical when anything goes wrong fad start then? Kiddy last season probably, some must have got a taste for it. We’ve seen some crap down the years and not kicked off every five seconds, proper cringe to be honest. Ended up kissing and cuddling the players when face to face with them at the end as well. I’m not in to booing during the game/at half time either, especially when it’s still salvageable.
Anyway, thought we started reasonably well until Shenton’s cock up, I’ve no idea what was in his mind there. That rattled us and gave Telford a boost, their tales were up for the remainder of the first half. We were awful, full of mistakes and couldn’t string two passes together. We did quite well after the break, settled down and got on the front foot. The decision to take Mahon off killed us though, he was coming in to the game well and going forward with real purpose at the time. It all went a bit flat after that, we got forward a few more times but couldn’t put them under any sustained pressure.
Definitely still a work in progress, there’s little things I saw that you can tweak which can improve us though. I like Jon Moran, reminds me a bit of Ben Heneghan in his style, he was pretty assured when he came on. He has to start from now on. Dudley’s a good player but needs support, Marsh-Hughes looked good when he came on. Back four did work better but need to change the personnel in it, I mean, Shenton himself wasn’t particularly overworked.
I do think it will improve personally, just having to see a bit of rubbish whilst they’re trying things out seeing what works and what doesn’t. This doesn’t apply to the horrendous amount of individual mistakes though, what is it, lapses in concentration? Some of them are terrible and happening far too often. Too much self inflicted damage going on.

Shenton, Smalley, Pritchard, Waters, Stopforth are nowhere near good enough for this level in terms of ability. Pritchard and Grand at times today were embarrassing with their lack of effort to track back. Livesey reminds me of John McCombe - was probably good a couple of years ago but is past it now. Don't really know where we go from here as we have a lack of quality and lack of pace all over the park. The Salford boys can't just go and demand cash to bring in players and they said before the Spennymoor game they were happy with the squad.
We aren't entitled to win each week but we are entitled to look tactically competent. What is our shape on/off the ball? What is our approach? We didn't even know who was taking corners second half. For that reason alone fans can only assume a lack of proper preparation.
It was a poor reaction to the shocking showing at Blyth. Telford relaxed second half but we offered no real threat to worry them. The character in the squad worries me - that was one thing we were guaranteed by the management. However, the sympathy hugs at full time with the same contingent who had abused them for 90 minutes was pathetic.

I was at the game taking advantage of Telford hospitality as I was in the executive lounge taking advantage of their offer...not well publicised! Only £20 which included entrance fee, free parking, THREE DRINKS, and a pretty good buffet of sandwiches, quiche, Indian tasties and tea and coffee. You can imagine that the game seems better when I had drunk my three small bottles of wine...and knowing that Telford could not make a profit from me, although I did Contribute £10 to the half time draw, which if I had won would have meant another donation to the mighty Chester. When I was not in the stand I was immediately behind the dugout and, as I didn’t hear it, I’m pretty sure our co-managers would not hear much of the abuse...although I did leave 5 minutes from the end. As for the game most of the posters have given an accurate analysis but I was extremely disappointed. We seemed so disorganized, none of our players seemed interested in taking corners, we wasted set pieces, and like others I worry about our goalie who has a nasty habit when making saves of palming it back into play. Telford did defend well, their two forwards were impressive and I think they will have a good season. I worry about our side and unless there is a massive improvement or we are can invest in some better players we are likely to be in the relegation region.

As much as I want this investment to be used wisely, I'm pretty accepting of the fact that we're simply not very good. A boost to the playing budget I feel may be necessary sooner rather than later.

New management team, new squad,4 games in and going part time. Yeah it was very disappointing against Blyth to say the least & yeah you'd expect a much better performance today! It's going to take time to gel etc. Part time means 2 x 2 hour training sessions a week. It's very different to full time. Just don't get how shouting abuse and calling them a shower a sh-te is going to help !!

Fairly sure that training runournis utter cr*p because we lost 1-8 and everyone loves a rumour. Anyway, a quick point I wanted to make is that we slated some of last years squad: Richards, White, Udoh all included, but they’re scoring goals in this league and finding success. Some aren’t of course, but I tell you now I’d have Udoh and Richards over Mahon and Smalley (striker) even if he’s not played.

I think that Morley and Johnson are still learning about this team and right at this moment don’t know how to get the best out of them. I do believe that it will come together though, but I mentioned earlier that I think they’re trying different things working out what works and what doesn’t. They’ve already changed the system which I think is a step forward. Blyth carved us open, but Telford (probably a better side) didn’t and for the most part just profited from the chances that we gifted them through individual mistakes.
Today, hauling Livesey off at half time was a clear realisation of the shortcomings in defence, they brought Moran on who improved things back there and hopefully they stick with him now. Morley also admitted in his post match interview that there’s clear problems going forward, mainly I think that Dudley has absolutely no support. So for me they do appear to picking up these little things holding us back but now need to rectify them. I do think one or two players are out of their depth though.
Don’t mean to be churlish and disrespectful here but Telford aren’t good at all, they were organised and played to their strengths, credit to them for that but I was watching them bumble about at times and despaired at the fact they were somehow managing to win so comfortably. Their number six for example, he looked like he only learnt to walk yesterday but was seemingly rather effective. Blyth were the same, not a good side at all but just played to their strengths. It’s something we just don’t seem to do whoever is in charge.

Got a feeling that the team that starts the season may not be the team that finishes it? We have been really ppoor for 18 months and the scale of the re-building job has become apparent.Maybe a season of consolidation and re-building is neccesary .

A few more inked up Mancs from Salford, Ashton and Trafford is just what we need! What image do you like for a footballer? You didn’t like Dawson’s floppy hair, you reckons our managers are scallies, and you don’t appear keen on lads from Manchester with tattoos. How about a team of Gary Roberts? Ones with ability and athleticism which is something we are desperately lacking. They can look like an art student’s drawing pad as far as I care so long as they get us up the league. These players look as if they will get us relegated.

That's rubbish, no one IS expecting miracles but its not unreasonable to expect not get humiliated every week. Compared with other teams in the division our resources are at least comparable and for many teams our resource will be greater. Are we a top 5 budget side ? - I don't think so - but to hide behind the old line of were so poor we can only avoid relegation is the type of nonsense used to excuse the dreadful way the club has been run in recent years. Humiliated every week? What on earth are you talking about? We've played four games and only lost two of them. One of which was a freak, once in a blue moon, result and the other away to the second best side in the league who are in a top run of form. As I said earlier in the thread, we have a newly-assembled coaching staff and team of players who have had to put up with having no match practice for two weeks due to an act of God (though let's hope the insurance company don't see it that way!) after starting the season with a fair record of a win, a draw and a defeat. Add to this the players that have been in and out through injuries and suspensions, and I can't understand why expectations are so high. Even if we're still jobbing about above the bottom three in mid-October are some people really going to be calling for yet more uncertainty by getting rid of our FOURTH managerial team in a little over 12 months?!
