It did make me laugh though when he quoted a former DCer for his comments pre season about appointing Cal demanding a public apology - after he'd been on the pitch kicking off at Brackley supporters! Some people have zero self awareness! That’s the mentality of them. They think they’re great supporters but then run around smashing things up and dragging the club through the mud. I’d say they need to grow up but there were people in their 50’s on that pitch! Not a brain cell among them.

I'm not entirely sure but aren't there stipulations regarding match days, where those subject to bans, have to sign in at the local nick? Or are those just for the real head-the-balls?

Only have to do that when its international duty and have to surrender passport. Usually not allowed within a 1-2 mile radius of the ground on match day 4 hours before and 4 hours after kick off.

'Chester Football Club wishes to provide supporters with an update on our response to the disorder at the end of our match with Brackley Town on May 7. We are continuing to assist Cheshire Police with its investigation and have provided CCTV footage to the investigation team. Officers have confirmed a 33-year-old man from Chester has been charged with failing to comply with a football banning order, throwing a missile at supporters and pitch invasion. He is due to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on 13 June. Detectives are also appealing for witnesses after a supporter sustained a broken jaw when he was seriously assaulted in the toilets at half-time having challenged three individuals who were chanting an inappropriate song. Anyone with any information in relation to the assault, or the disorder at the match should contact Cheshire Police on 101, or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1539302. These investigations are ongoing and it is important the Club allows them to be completed, however we are committed to working closely with the police and authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and punished. Club officials met with the Safety Advisory Group, including Cheshire Police, this week, and have also been in contact with the National League and The FA. This incident will almost certainly result in the Club being subject to sanctions, and changes to matchday operations at the Deva Stadium that will impact us financially. However, we are determined the hard work that has been undertaken to build our community football club will not be undone and will do everything in our power to repair the damage to our reputation. The messages of support and understanding from Brackley Town fans, who recognise this incident is not reflective of Chester FC, have been gratefully received, and we will ensure a goodwill gesture is made next season to help restore the good relations between the clubs. Further updates on the investigation will be provided when appropriate.'

Thanks devamug72. Hopefully helps people understand the significant difference between a stadium banning order and a football banning order.

Appears there are about 80 more people to go then.
On police, I think we pay for those that are in the ground not outside it? So worse the fans are the more expensive things get.

Can't be that hard to prove whether someone threw something or not, can it?

My initial reaction after reading that article was to wonder what the fella had done to receive an eight-year ban in the first place. Turns out it came about after he instigated a fight with Wrexham fans in the city centre, which in itself contravened an even earlier banning order and also landed him with a six-month spell in Her Majesty’s care. How the hell were people like this able to simply rock up to a game and cause yet more chaos? There aren’t many people in the local area with such lengthy bans hanging over their heads, and he’s clearly a Chester fan rather than just some day-tripper looking for trouble anywhere he could find it, so he would’ve been known to the police and other relevant authorities. Surely their main priority would’ve been to keep the likes of him away from the ground in the knowledge that such a big game would always attract the less savoury elements of our support - and, in fact, surely this bloke in particular should’ve been right towards the top of their list of people to look out for. Just complete and utter negligence from those supposedly entrusted to protect the public - though, sadly, I can’t say I’m surprised.

Back to the issue at hand, it is clear that banning orders do not work as they rely on the club and turnstyle operators to enforce. Sadly I fear we will continue to see incidents such as the Brackley disgrace, but hope that future incidents don't result in certain people closing ranks and the gaslighting of fans who are calling it out. The fallout from Brackley was awful.

Sadly I fear we will continue to see incidents such as the Brackley disgrace, but hope that future incidents don't result in certain people closing ranks and the gaslighting of fans who are calling it out. The fallout from Brackley was awful. I thought it was disappointing that when you posted on here about your concerns, one person (a woman, I think) told you to "man up" while another suggested you were "under the thumb". If you look at the images and the reports of the incidents at the Brackley game, it's not women, is it? The word "men" is coming up repeatedly. People like this 33-year-old have only learned a toxic form of masculinity based around violence and machoism. Actually a much more positive way to be a man is to be a responsible father. Society reminds men throughout their lives that they are supposed to be stoic and tough, and they often respond to this by getting aggressive or getting depressed, or both. That's probably why more men than women commit assault, and why more of them take their own life. In doesn't help that pricks like Andrew Tate are getting in young men's heads either. So, I think the language we all use is very important, and what's said online sets the tone for what happens at games. In time I hope we can phase out the anti-Welsh stuff as that isn't banter or friendly rivalry, it just leads to actual hatred and tribalism. If any good can come out of the Brackley game, it's hopefully brought some issues to a head that have gone unaddressed for too long. We're all fans and owners of this club so I feel we all have to think about what we could do better, and not be defensive if criticism is constructive. It's ok to make a mistake.

Good point on the Welsh comments. A lot of our fans are from the Deeside and Flintshire area; likely identifying as Welsh…. We have a Welsh captain, a number of Welsh players and likely Welsh sponsors and commercial interests. Tribalism is a good term to describe it and it needs to stop. I mean for pedantics when the Welsh English border was made, we weren’t far off being a welsh city.
