The manager, CEO and FD should now be constructing a plan to create some headroom in the playing budget.
This should start with the identification of players that are, putting it kindly, surplus to requirements. We should be negotiating with these players to terminate their playing contracts now. Each week that goes by, the potential savings get lower. The sooner action is taken, the better. Playing contracts do not get paid off in full and employer’s NI will not be payable on any termination payment.
We could all list those players that we think should be at the top of that list, but ultimately it should be the manager’s call.
The issue will be with those players that have signed two-year contracts. It might not be possible to terminate these at an acceptable cost to the football club. The likes of Ross Hannah and Kingsley James undoubtedly have the quality to play at this level, but do they still have the hunger and desire to run through walls for our football club, or do they simply lack fitness and confidence (respectively).
There is no doubt that we lack quality in many areas, but what we shouldn’t accept is a lack of desire. Unfortunately, at the moment, we’ve got both.

Does anybody know why one of their players was asked to remove what looked like a pair cycling shorts , overheard his manager say "told him about that a halftime"

I could say a lot to pull the team down after that show yesterday like a lot on here do !!!! But the problem was simple 2 defensive mistakes in bad conditions and a lack of being a team. Lots of individuals trying to play but no real team spirit or fight when the chips were down. Some think we would be better relegated and rebuild again (what crap) Astles looks tired and jaded perhaps losing a stone or two would help. Passing out from the back when playing against a quick midfield is not the answer (hope manager realised that) Rowe Turner got stick for whatever he tried the lad has talent but needs support not people getting on his back. Start being positive about the team we have and encourage them and the new Manager to move on with real support from the supporters!!!! At times yesterday you could hear a handful (poss 20 ) Away supporters more than the 1400 + Chester fans is it any wonder the team play as they do with support that is silent or critical. Lets TRY AND GET BEHIND OUR TEAM .So after nearly 10 months of pretty much consistently abysmal home performances (1 win since December 2016!), and the less said of the players "efforts" at kiddy last week, it is of course the paying fans fault and no doubt the negative minority !! - Not McCarthy’s ineptitude, and not the naive board members who allowed this avoidable shambles to result? The fact that there were only 1400 + Chester fans in attendance tells its own story and are an indictment of this sorry situation itself. Players in this team make similar school boy defensive errors in practically every game. It is abundantly clear there is little team spirit, probably because most of these players have not been prepared to, or simply cannot raise their game and compete when the "Chips are down", and don't give two hoots for this Club or its fans. These players, many of whom are experienced professionals brought in by McCarthy , have very questionable commitment, poor attitude, unfit, and are "has beans " looking for an easy payday . I’m afraid that currently few of these players deserve the fans support, and most will hopefully be shipped out over the coming weeks and months. As the fans quite rightly chanted at Kiddy "you’re not fit to where the Shirt". Yet that said, I am a fan of the CLUB for over 30 years, a season ticket holder, and hope and pray that Marcus Bignot can drag out better performances from the obvious coasters, and perform the increasingly difficult, albeit not quite impossible task of avoiding relegation. At the end of the day whilst there will always be moans and grumbles , the players will get the fans support if they are at least competent , competing to their known ability and genuinely trying their utmost for the Club. How many of the current bunch really can really say that?
Well said that man. That's exactly how I'm seeing it. Like most I have turned up during this abysmal home record. Clapped when need be. Supported when need be. But Kiddie and again in the first half on Saturday were a complete piss take. James pulling out of challenges? Name me a player who deserves support? Astles? In that shape! I'd say the keeper hasn't done a lot wrong. But this group are the most pitiful bunch we've ever had and they have been rightfully exposed for what they are and I'm afraid they are reaping what they have sown.

Agree it’s not been good but that said I have just spent the afternoon watching Everton and Liverpool who have both spent Millions on players in the close season, and I have to say the defending on show from both sides is no better than we have been watching week in week out. Our manager has had no input into this squad other than the lone players so we have to keep supporting him to give him a chance to turn it around

Not comparing us directly but it’s just the fact that both have spent millions and are still very poor, players ball watching or not tracking runners, things we see at this level are happening in the Premiership

It's one of them though - mistakes happen at any level but the higher up the leagues you are, the less likely you'll get away with them.
Liverpool are unbelievably poor defensively though. Lovren looked like he had a mare, Matip's defensive header back into the danger zone was Halls-sequel, and Mignolet seems to cost them a goal every game. I think they were mad not to cash in on the crazy money offered for Coutinho and sign up a few defenders and a keeper.

The root of our problems is the link between midfield and attack. We are badly missing Mahon who can pick the ball up deep (where we often find ourselves) and drive the team forward like he did against Sutton in the second half. Without him we have no width, and the midfield is just bypassed with long balls from the back towards our midget strikers. If I was Bignot I would be bringing in an out and out winger ASAP. Chapell obviously isn't the answer, but in the first 15 minutes we only got into their box twice and both times were through Chapell.
In an ideal world we could have an attacking midfielder as well in the mould of Rooney, McConville and Thompson who can link midfield with attack. Shaw, Dawson, Turnbull and James are just too similar and don't compliment each other.
