Thoroughly enjoyed the match last night. Really intense from start to finish. From an England (or Denmark) perspective, probably the best result as Spain were by far the better side, plus the match went into extra time. Yes a thoroughly entertaining game that. Suspect tonight will be an ugly, cagey war of attrition. Fancy Denmark to sneak it by one goal. People seem to have forgotten that Denmark beat us at Wembley just nine months ago. Erikssen pulling-together factor aside, they're a good team and have shown more attacking threat than England in this tournament, the Ukraine game excepted. That said, while we shouldn't assume anything, it's a good a chance as we're likely to get to reach a final.

Our last competitive win against them was in the second round of the 2002 World Cup. They took four points off us in the Nations League last year (0-0 in Copenhagen; 0-1 at Wembley) and are obviously one of the best four teams in this competition.

England are a better team/unit now than last Autumn and have a deep squad for tonight and a home/crowd advantage. Those last games were played in empty stadiums and to be fair, Maguire's sending off affected the second result, which was only won with a harsh penalty. The only thing nagging at me is that we were very cautious in both of those previous games. Surely Southgate can afford to be a lot more ambitious this time around now the team has found its groove. Yes Denmark deserve respect, but you would think we'll do the business as we have the better players. I'm going 2-0 England

The curse of ITV strikes again.
This ‘curse’ was talked about during the 2018 World Cup when England reached the semi-finals. The match was shown on ITV and resulted in England losing 2-1 to Croatia. This, and the following third-place playoff loss to Belgium, upheld a staggeringly bad set of England results on ITV that stretches back to 1998.
Since 1998, England have won just four matches in 90 minutes that have been broadcast on ITV. The penalty shootout victory over Colombia in 2018 was broadcast on the channel but is technically classed as a draw. The 1-0 win over Germany at Euro 2000 is something of an anomaly as it was shown on both BBC and ITV.
Overall, before Euro 2020, England has lost nine matches on ITV and drawn 11. In comparison to the BBC, England’s record reads as Won: 14 Drawn: 3 Lost: 3.
This gives England an impressive 70 per cent win rate on BBC, whereas on ITV it is a paltry 16.67 per cent.

11th own goal of Euro 2020(1).
Two more own goals than ALL of the previous Euros combined.

Not a great first half showing by us. We started alright but they'd got on top by the time they scored. Silly to be giving free kicks like that away in those kinds of areas. The lad couldn't have hit it any better mind.
Huge relief to get back on terms so soon after although you worried it was going to be one of those nights when Sterling missed that sitter moments before.
Needs to make our squad depth tell here and get Grealish on sooner rather than later.

Best thing Sterling has done in the match is dive for that penalty!
England just about deserve it though. Massive 15 mins. Come on!!!

FUCKING GET IN!!!!
Don’t care about the penalty - justice for Sol Campbell having two legitimate goals disallowed in separate tournament knockout ties that we cruelly lost on penalties.
Think Italy will win it, but the fact we are even in the final gives us a fighting chance.

You get them sometimes and you have to take the breaks when you get them. Thought it was probably the worst refereeing performance I've seen so far.

Prior to this conpetition, I thought Sterling was pretty shit. He has made me eat my words. Been excellent and the main attacking threat. Personally, I wouldnt have tried to close the game out, when England were on top. But they weathered it and kept poccession

Gave the ball away a lot and missed a sitter in the first half. He is the most likely player to make something happen though.

He was wasteful Sterling but made up for it with his energy. To still be going like that in extra time was outstanding and a testament to his fitness.
Wonderful day ahead on Sunday, just a crying shame it won't be met with full fanparks across the country and rammed pubs.

Is it just me or can nobody else stand Sam Matterface as a commentator? Cringeworthy beyond belief & spouts the same pointless shite every game. Guy Mowbray on BBC head & shoulders above him.
Regarding the game totally deserved result for England, Denmark offered very little especially when they took Dolberg & Damsgaard off. Great free kick too. I thought it was a decent performance from us without being spectacular, 1 of the worst penalties I've ever seen in my life but we are in the final for the 1st time & I don't care how we play on Sunday as long as we beat the Italians. Come on England!
IT'S COMING HOME!

I don't mind him myself. Prefer him to Clive Tyldesley. No doubt BBC's coverage is better overall though. The worst thing about ITV's yesterday was every advert break going from the roaring atmosphere of Wembley to that tacky Booking.com ad that looks like something you'd have seen on Austrian TV 30 years ago.

Absolutely made up with that display! First half you'd say Denmark shaded it, but after 60 minutes we were utterly dominant. Don't think I've every remembered a side getting to the byeline so often!
Big call from Southgate to take Grealish off - who else was shouting at the screen that we were all over them at that point?! - but it worked out in the end.

Southgate has got every single decision spot on throughout this tournament - even substituting a (fans favourite) substitute. He gets slated on the socials before every game with every team selection and is called the “safe, yes man” but he’s anything but. Shuts out the noise, trusts his own instincts and makes his own decisions - and he’s delivered us a World Cup semi-final, a Nations League third place playoff win and a Euros final in three years. Quite amazing considering the last 55 years of England internationally.

I'm no great fan of any of them TBH. But what I really don't like is the two people in the commentary box thing. It tends to end up a bit of a chumocracy similar to what happens in the studio. In my ideal world, I'd have a single commentator like David Coleman or the great Sir Barry of Davieshire, with the Programme (no more than 20 minutes before KO) introduced by the legendary Des "Shouldn't you lot be at work?" Lynam. Maybe wishful thinking from a grumpy 64 yr old but I can dream can't I?

Great result, what fantastic fitness levels we have maintained. They said the Danes were fit but were blowing after 75 mins. Stuck to the game plan, believed in themselves, and good game management. Think it will be a good match up with Italy, hope we edge it. Our strength in depth within the squad might just be key.

I watched it with family and none of us could believe it when Grealish went off but it was a tactical masterstroke from Southgate.
There was no mad last 5 minute panic stations defending like Chester would have put us through, just a nice easy ball up the jumper session.
We thoroughly deserved the win, and deserved a little bit of luck finally. Italy are a great team, but so are England. Its a cup final at Wembley and our fans should outnumber them 5 to 1. Its ours to lose.

The Grealish decision could have gone either way and he would have been lambasted if Denmark equalised, but the good thing was he stuck to his guns and made a big call. Probably the most impressive thing I've noticed is how unified the squad seems - even the back-up boys. I was surprised to hear the Sven named his strongest starting XI well in advance of the tournament - talk about disincentivising the other squad members before a ball has been kicked!

Wow people sure are bitter. Reading in the press about diving, arrogance aloofness of the England team. ''They booed the Danish national Anthem'' Well yeah they did but it was the fans that booed not the players. If you listen carefully OUR national Anthem gets booed every time we play away from home but we don't make a fuss about it. Laser pen? Yep someone in the crowd shone a Laser pen BUT no players did it. Denmark moaning about the England team being too physical whilst kicking lumps out of Saka Grielish and Kane. ''Sterling dived'' OK he went down a bit easily, but two of their plays had a peck at him before he fell. Don't every player dive in the box now? In fact i would say that diving was imported from Europe in the first place. What really boils my p##s is the fact that everyone wants England to fail at any sport. At this time we actually deserve to be in the final but others just belittle our achievement. The reason why Scotland, Germany, Wales, Denmark are complaining that 'we think we are better than them' easy that one...at this particular moment we ARE better than them. It's coming home so get over it you LOSERS

We seem to live in an era where it's always 'us versus them' - Brexit... general elections... To vax or not to vax... Taking the knee... always explosive arguments either side on social media.
Since social media football rivalry seems to be particularly unpleasant, so I wonder if this has contributed to the lack of respect towards other sides.
We all know the Italian national anthem will be booed, which will practically do their team-talk for them.
