Would be a good signing. Lost his way a bit towards the end of the season but there's a decent player there and he's still learning. Would definitely benefit from playing regularly in a settled defence.

Theo was part of the back 4 that went on that incredible run after all.

Spare man in Joyce, does already as a covering option won't be on a lot of money. Horwood adds league experience plus is an extraordinary ambassador for the club off the pitch.

Am i the only person desperate to see a new face to spread some sort of feeling we won;t be in another relegation fight? White is a good signing on paper, but only made 19 starts because of injury, so we're relying on him, akintunde, mahon to stay fit at the moment. Re-signed quite a few of last seasons substitutes bench and some reserve lads. Anything so far suggest we're in for anything other than another scrap? Yikes, think i'll duck and cover now.

No guesses as to where Theo will end up !! I'd be happy to bring Theo back as our player. I think he could do with someone coaching him how to move more athletically. His sprinting gait/pattern is one of the most uneconomical for power output that I have ever seen.

What's with all these 6 month deals? Are we planning to just give up after January again?

What's with all these 6 month deals? Are we planning to just give up after January again? I'd imagine it's a case of if the player isn't deemed good enough they'll be released in Jan and we replace them. Good idea for players that Macca isn't sure of to be fair.

What's with all these 6 month deals? Are we planning to just give up after January again? On top of releasing top earners, promoting youth team players (whilst very deserved and what we should be doing as a club anyway) and streamlining the coaching staff - all points to one thing. Lack of funds.

These 6 month deals bother me...it's a bit like we have little confidence in the signing so we're sticking to short term deals...if so why sign them? What happens if they all perform/don't perform and we're in a situation in January where we could see 4-6 players going or demanding more money if they do well and struggling to find replacements/funds? Really don't know what to make of it!

Does sound like lazy recruitment and lack of finances. No doubt George will be next to sign back up. These six month deals for Davies and Horwood, shows indecision in the manager to me whether they can cut it, some may see it as if they don't cut the mustard by January then we get rid. Was going to say I'd rather the manager had the courage of his convictions and offered players 12 month contracts and then I see we have signed Joyce on one! Am far from impressed with the majority of business done so far, let's hope there is better more exciting news to follow.

Don't even say that in jest Bob!! I am told it is a distinct possibility!!. If that happened, we could actually have signed 4 players that couldn't make our 11 that nearly got relegated, 4 very raw young talents, a couple of injury concerns and then a few solid signings such as Astles and Shaw. I sound so negative but that is a fact!

Nah I feel the same atm add that to JM tactics and playing players out of position and I fear the worst.

I think the 6 month deals are a great idea - they give McCarthy room to manoeuvre in January should he need to.

Correct, it will make my dimly lit and cramped little room here in the Ecuadorian Embassy seem like a Bahamian Beech , compared to the delights of watching Joyce, Chappell, Marsh et al, chasing shadows on a wet October evening at the Deva.

Horwood adds experience and is a wise head in our team, so it's good to see he is staying. I also see why Macca has put a couple players on six-month deals just in case they are struggling for form. Joyce is a squad player on a low wage so it's makes sense for JM to keep him. Let's hope they can excel. When Nyal Bell was first here I didn't really see enough of him but he offers pace and is fresh blood for us. Welcome back Nyal!

I suspect George is pondering a new 1 year contract on a reduced rate.
Would be happy to see Vassell back here as a Chester player, a centre half potentially.

If things go badly on the pitch do you think McCarthy will still be here and be trusted with spending any money come the January transfer window? Just screams lack of confidence in the signing to me. Let's be honest, if they play incredible first half of the season they would demand more money or have other clubs offering more than we can. If they are crap, then cool we can get rid, but how hard is it to pick up decent players mid season....they'll either be free agents or loan players, otherwise you're talking transfer fees...likely story.

I don't think McCarthy would still be in charge in January if things were to go badly on the pitch - but these shorter deals could then be very helpful for his replacement should he decide he needs to freshen the team up.
